      Has this knife got a stiff back spring? The stronger the back spring, the better I like it. But I do prefer a half-stop for safety. My favorite Taylor's Eye Witness Barlow has the strongest back spring of any knife I've ever owned, and a good sturdy half-stop. I've been looking for a nice German made knife with similar qualities. The 3 rivet Otto does indeed have the reputation as a trusty, hard use blade for a working man.

    After trying several pocket knives that just couldn't preform, I bought this 3 rivet knife based on your review and after a year of wearing it in with a house renovation cutting, carving in all sorts of tings from wood, dirt, plaster board, cement products & scraping gunk of car parts. I have not treated it nicely apart from keeping the edge sharp and clean. I can say i'm very happy with it and even though it's nowhere near worn out, I would really like another one with a bone handle as well :) Just a great knife.

    What would make this knife even better would be a protruding pivot pin so you can easily adjust any slack from use.

    Thanks for showing. I own this knife and the in size and shape similar Otter 161 model. Yes, they aren't perfectly flawless in the finish, but for me they simply feel good in the hand. They are traditional working knives and although handmade the price is reasonable. I own several knives from Otter, also the Mercator and Hippekniep, and I like them all. Especially the 161 and the Three Rivet Knife are in my view some kind of prototype of a traditional German pocket knife. By the way, with the 164K Model this same style of knife is available with a white bone handle.

      It's the cutting edge length not overall blade length (also whether it locks or not) that determines whether it's legal to carry without good reason. So I would say this is legal without reason.

    Hi Joe,
    Nice to see one of those in your channel. As you said, a very usefull knife, which will do most of the usual daily tasks.
    Btw, this pattern is one of the ancient Solingen patterns, which survived until today. In the past times nearly every manufactor in Solingen made those. Nowadays only Otter and Klaas still make them afaik.
    Greetings, Dirk

    • @MesserHQ
      @MesserHQ  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great info on this pattern! I really like it and may check out the one from Klaas👍

    • @myknife_life
      @myknife_life 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Klaas has only two rivets and it´s made with a carbon steel blade, but it is still build in the old fashioned way. this is why it´s called the "Arbeitsmesser" means working knife

    very nice video and review! i wish i could get one of these brand new for 50 euros. on their site they are going for 125 euros with tax and shipping! i ended up just getting a used one off ebay for $40 but i had to settle for one with steel rivets instead of the brass rivets like yours.

    Solid knife .....👍
    I got the stainless version a while back.
    German old proper quality ....and nice hand feel with the construction of the large Barlow style wood handle .
    The workmanship in the knife is top - shelf. Bit like an old Puma one.
    Add a leather slip ~ and it is a collector knife that you can also use day in , day out for EDC tasks.

    • @MesserHQ

    That would make a killer bagel slicer if it were in stainless. I like that rounded blade for peanut butter and such things. But carbon steel makes it taste funny.

    I'm guessing the double grind bolster has a function, like choking up for detail work, besides aesthetics.

      @@MesserHQ Thank-you for the quick reply. I will not order from Europe due to the added cost of postage, duty and customs costs, not to mention brokerage fees, which tend to double the price of a knife. If a dealer orders in bulk and spreads those fees out, the knife becomes affordable. I have learned this lesson the hard way. Thank you for your offer.
