How do you get it to follow your screen? I would like to screen record Excel tutorials but it only records the left part of my screen. When I click on something on the right side of the screen it doesn't show up in the final video
That's odd🤔 As you can see from my video it is editable and you can put in different resolution values. I'm not sure why yours isn't unless maybe you're trying to change values while recording.
@@GeekoutdoorsBrand no, it's read only for me too. They changed the edit into a drop down box, only showing 16:9 values regardless of what you type in the base resolution.
Thank you I have searched this info for a long time. Especially with the browser resizing in the other video. Many people creates YT shorts and TikTok videos yet, not many info is out there how to do it on desktop. However what I would truly happy about if there would be a capability, where I just select a rectangle on the screen/window of what I want to record and it would keep the 9:18 aspect ratio. I seems to be such an easy thing to code in a video recorder, yet I have not seen any free solutions for this. Please share if you know such software.
I'm not sure exactly of how to do that as I don't use Twitch but it seems that you could use a Website Link source. There's videos on TH-cam that should show this.
Not sure as I do upload these Vertical videos to TH-cam and Tik Tok and they look fine but I'm not sure how this will look on all phones out there from these platforms.
Thanks for the explanation. The quality of the output is not very clear! I tried changing the output file settings to large but no result! Is there a way to get best quality output?
I tried this, but it didn't fix my issue; I have a 32" TV for my monitor and I wonder if that might be the problem; I have a windows 10 box and the videos are made for youtube shorts, and the aspect ratio is still majorly wrong. There's major black horizontal bars above and below the screen recording of my browser and I'm not able to change the aspect ratio, even though I have it set to 1080Wx1920H and it does say 9:16, but the final video still comes out wrong.
thank you so much, I was trying to find videos about how to make a youtube short on pc and they all said "you have to record in 1080x1920" but I had no idea how to do that. Thank you
Well in that case your profile would have to be a standard widescreen project and then you'd have to crop the video vertically so it wouldn't truly be a vertical video.
Thanks for the video However, I don't have an option to change the output resolution (just a drop down with 4 options), I can change the base resolution as you describe. I wonder whether this is a bug on the latest version as I'm sure I used to be able to change the output resolution on my old laptop
I don't know what's the best for you but practically any modern card even cheap ones should work but it really depends on what you're using it for so you'll have to do your own research.
Hey @Geekoutdoors, I followed your Guide, however, the issue I'm facing is that I can only manually edit the "Base Canvas Resolution" into 1080x1920, however, the Output Scaled Resolution, I can only use the dropdown options and no chance of changing the figures manually and making it 1080x1920. What am I missing?
Hello, this tutorial is great but i dont think its working for me. Ive been trying for a while now to get a vertical aspect ratio but every time i set it to 1080x1920 it doesnt look vertical. The sides get a little bit shorter but not 1080x1920. If you have a solution for this then let me know, Thanks.
apologies if u already mentioned it in the video but I have a question. when I open my exported video in apps like capcut, it just turns out as a regular rectangle video with a vertical window (the rest is like a black frame). do u know how to fix this? because when I zoom in to the vertical area the quality drops
I managed to do these things but when I uploaded it to youtube, it never recognised it as a short. It was in portrait and only 48 seconds long. Can you advise why this might happen?
Unfortunately, when I change my base resolution to a 9:16 ratio, obs doesn't change the output ratio or even give me an option to. I found this out the hard way after recording a drawing without cropping and turning my camera sideways to get all the detail...so I had a skewed recording instead.
Go to settings again while in the Vertical profile. Go to output and there you should be able to fix it, along with output file format (I change the default mkv to mp4)
I'm finding when I do vertical format that my audio gets out of sync with my video pretty quickly. I get a little bit of that in 16:9, but way more in 9:16. I am using a webcam source over a screen capture, very similar to what you're doing here. I have to adjust the screen capture handles quite a bit to get it to fit, so I'm wondering if that's taxing my GPU or CPU more than in 16:9? I guess ultimately I'm wondering if upgrading my CPU/GPU (buying a new PC) is going to help this audio/video syncing issue? Thoughts?
That's really odd Eric I haven't seen issues with audio sync if I go into vertical videos myself nor have I seen high CPU/GPU usage but then again I'm not sure how complex your vertical videos are versus the simple ones I do.
I’ve done literally all of these steps, except every time I output this as an MP4 it seems to downgrade resolution and I have no idea why. I’ve even adjusted all the things correctlying in Settings > Output. CBR, 60k fps, all of that. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? It comes out looking like 720 even though all my settings seem to be correct.
Have you tried turning in game resolution to 1080x1920 (9-16 Ratio) as well and then recorded with OBS Vertical settings you just showed? Am thinking about a way to not manually change the focus of the recording and make OBS record everything without cutting out unfocused areas. Great video btw thanx.
@@GeekoutdoorsBrand I tried it today with WWE 2k22 and it is not willing to go to vertical res even after tweaking it in the ini/config file. Vertical Monitors which can go natively on 9:16 can do this easily. Do let us know if you find a workaround for normal Wide Screen Monitors.
This is exactly what I've been looking for. When screen recording a vertical video on my PC, how do I see that what I'm doing on a different page is actually being recorded in OBS? ( As in how do I make sure I stay within the rectangle that OBS is focused on/ recording)
Do you know if its possible to set up both recordings to run simultaneously? So you only have to record the video once but it creates a wide AND vertical video at the same time?
