  • "Malaysians don't eat bread, we eat rice." said his father.
It's a privilege to interview my former boss, Dato Loy, the Executive Chairman of Taylor's Education Group from 37 years ago when I worked in one of my first careers. He shares his breakthroughs in life to get to where he is today.
In this excerpt, he reiterates that the significant moments in his life are unplanned. As much as we do our strategic planning, when we come to a fork, it's whether we seize the opportunity or not, will divert us to a different route.
In this podcast snippet, the speaker recounts a pivotal moment during his second year of university in Canada.
He wrote a letter to their father, the late Tan Sri Loy Hean Heong, the founder of MBf Group of Companies, expressing a desire to borrow $100,000 to invest in a restaurant with great potential in Malaysia, specifically a McDonald's franchise.
He planned to leave university and pursue this business opportunity but faced difficulty securing the funds. the father advised against it, emphasizing the cultural preference for rice over bread in Malaysia.
Watch out for the full video to be released soon.
