#1 failure part on yamaha superjet and waverunner pwc

  • We have had 11 failures in two months! I would say this is a common issue. This is insane. Number one failure part for any superjet or yamaha waverunner. Will show you exactly what is going wrong and how to fix it. Also how to bypass it if you really need to. This fix for a superjet that does not start also works for waverunner that does not start.

Good info for my Waveraider. I was going to comment about using dielectric grease in the slide contact, but you covered it. The dielectric grease works well at keeping moisture out so I like to use it in my plug boots and pretty much any place where there is a chance of corrosion.

Nice, I was kinda hoping you'd do one on these. You've mentioned them before and I have a '97 Yamaha. I'll add this to the list for winter project work on the ski. Thanks!

The “Secret to long life “ of these switches is keep a lanyard connected all the time when in storage. The little rubber cover will have No pressure on it while the lanyard is connected, this stops it from splitting and leaking water 💧.

This sounds like the issue I had last week at the ramp where I hooked up the lanyard, but it would not start. Luckily I hit the start/stop switch with some electrical contact spray I brought and it fired right up, but I think I will take apart the switch this weekend and fix it right.

Fixed my switch finally. I was trying to get my ski ready for a Trump Flotilla here in CA, unfortunately I never made it. The problem was as you mentioned in your video, but a bit more of a problem. Those tiny contacts in the slide were dirty, but one was corroded and would not spring back up. I finally got it out then noticed the tiny spring inside was eaten away from the corrosion and that diameter size of spring I could not find anywhere. I had springs that 'diameter wise' were close but would not fit. The workaround "for me" was too very carefully drill out the spring pocket in the slide and cut the spring to the correct length, then pray the contact would slide up and down. "It worked". I placed everything back in the lower cover tried it out and it fired right up. Reassembled the upper cover, tried it and nothing...WTF. I tore the whole thing apart 3 times down to the contacts, thinking it must be the problem, but the problem was simpler than that. It seems when I tightened the (4) screws of the slide switch housing I over tightened it and the slide would not pop backup after having to work against the spring pressure from the lanyard button. Loosening the screws to the slide housing just a little was enough for the slide switch to work more freely. It starts every time now and hopefully will last a long time as I packed that housing with dielectric grease. The little rubber boots for the switches they sell online and if I had thought about it when I went to the electronics store I could have bought some there. Another option would be to maybe make one out of Plasti Dip.

Great info! This was the issue with my 95 Waveventure. However, I can't figure out how to get the switch with the 4 screws out of the housing to take it apart.. I took out the 2 screws on the other side. It looks like it is zip tied way down under??
Also, if I decide just to get a new one, I don't see where the wires go down into the ski.

Sometimes you can test this by pulling the spark plugs and watching for spark. No spark while the button is being held down and it will spark momentarily when the button is released.
Also, jet ski solutions out of Georgia will fix these. I had them do one for my fx1 and it has at least 6 or 7 seasons in it so far.

Unplugged the Cdi no voltage coming from any of the coils when cranking. No voltage to ignition coil coming from cdi. All connections in ebox are good with no corrosion. Wiring harness looks good from front of engine to ebox and from handlebars to ebox. Ignition system completely dead. Only the starter works.
