    Sasha’s death felt cheap because that’s what war is like. You don’t get some dramatic build up to your death. It’s often over in an instant. But if you’re worried that Sasha’s death seemed pointless, don’t be. Everything that happens in AoT ends up meaning something in the end

      There was build up in this episode and previous ones.
      Gabi saw Sasha killing the guards and in this episode we see emphasis put on the trio and the fact that the door to the airship is open.
      Sasha's death also is not just for shock factor or to point out that people can die in an instant in a war, it serves another purpose later in this part of the season.

    The reason why the scouts attacked Marley, which the brothers were curious about, was revealed.
    Scout attacked Marley because of Eren.
    Eren took himself hostage and had the scout follow his plan.
    The plan is to kill Marley's high ranks and destroy their fleets so that they do not attack Paradise Island in large quantities.
    The reason scouts criticize Eren is that he killed the world's major figures gathered in the square, and the enemy of Paradise Island grew from Marley to the world.
    But I think he's right.
    Willy Tybur used his status to incite the world to attack Paradise Island.
    Eren listened to all the speeches while talking to Reiner, and thought that if they were destined to be attacked by world anyway, it would be better to destroy their fleet and stop them from attacking right away.
    I agree with his thought.

    • @Trathien-

      @jasonamigo023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yup, I agree too. And I think Eren was being fair by actually listening to them confirm what he already knew: that they were going to declare war. Actually I'm super thankful to the animators (?) who pleaded not to kill sasha in that episode where she saved Kaya. She was supposed to die in that episode/season. But this death is not acceptable for me, tho, I'm half blaming gabi for this, half not. At first I hated her so so much. But i tried not to be one sided anymore and understand each sides and stuffs. I agree that It felt cheap too when I first watched it. But then I think the author just wants the readers to realize the gravity of Eren's decision to go there, and his "indifference" shows how dark his head is in now. Because aside from Sasha's death, and deaths of other people that we don't really know, Eren's plan is pretty much a huge success on the reader's point of view. Author wanted to hit us where it really hurts I guess.

      The author actually planned Sasha's death to come in earlier (right around season 2 or 3 I think) but fans really liked her and I guess this is a better way of using her death in an impactful way rather than just killing her for the sake of killing like what other shows do. I agree that it felt cheap to me at first but once you sit through with it, her dying felt more natural and more impactful because of what happens next.

    Sergeant Major Gross had a point in S3E20 "That Day" when he said people actually want to see violence. The hype of everyone was real when Paradis forces blew up Marley and killed hundreds of people. ONE major character was killed in this episode, and people's hearts are broken, or their heads are filled with rage.
    This emotion in Sasha's death? That's what Gabi felt when Eren started the attack, and the parallels are insane. "What's that? Gabi's rage and heartbreak isn't relatable?" and Isayama delivered. "THIS is what Gabi felt like". God-tier writing.

      If the story had been written with the Warriors as the focus and the Scouts as the antagonists, some people may have even cheered Sasha's death. The creator is trying to expose the inherent favoritism, tribalism band hypocrisy in human nature. It's all a matter of perspective where bias is present. I think it's a stark reminder that we should strive to look beyond that bias.

    • @finn_5393
      @finn_5393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@crossmodulation9730 ok yeah true. But the treatment of the Eldian's is just retaliation for their 2000+ year world domination where they killed millions and wiped out entire cultures and races. The war that ended them was only 100 years ago. Playing the blame game doesn't work in AOT because the blame ultimately falls on the Eldian's.

    • @heinrichagrippa5681
      @heinrichagrippa5681 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't really mind when people are upfront about having an emotional bias towards a character they like in a work of fiction, and disliking whoever harms that character for that reason alone. It's when they try to make it a moral standpoint that gets annoying. Hordes of sweaty edge-lord SnK fans will to this very day condemn Gabi as an evil, disgusting, irredeemable monster who deserves nothing but a painful death as though it was an entirely impartial ethical stance. All without recognizing that they're feeling exactly the same way she did; 10-year-old Eren as well.
      I'm glad these siblings were mostly just heartbroken by their lose, and didn't immediately fall into the "you killed my potato waifu! I hate you so much and I hope you die!" mindset. That said, it's interesting to see how even when it's "their guys", they still view the previously unseen scouts as red-shirt randos. Contrast Shayne's responds to Gabi shooting Lobov through the head, "nice shot", with him being emotionally devastated to the point where he can't even speak when she shoots a different scout - who to her was just as much an enemy red-shirt rando as the previous guy.
      Though mostly overlooked, I think it was a brilliant decision on Isayama's part to show Gabi killing a no-name scout (which I mean figuratively, obviously he's named "Lobov") moments before she kills a long-running fan favourite. It's the perfect setup to expose the moral hypocrisy of considering a character "evil" because of what she's done, despite clearly not giving a shit when she did the exact same thing less than two minutes earlier.

  • @halfeldianhere
    @halfeldianhere 2 ปีที่แล้ว +133

    This is my most favorite reaction of yours guys next to 2x6. Except this is a lesson to Shayne. It's fine to show favoritism to scouts, but AOT is all about perspective, and the season started as this to show us there's no good or bad, or truths in this AOT world. Anyone can be a victim on their own. Just a few episodes you were saying, "is it bad I want Eren to kill them all" something like that,
    This is just one of the few reasons why it's not. Retaliation is the name of the game, in the world where Paradis doesn't have a peaceful bridge to the rest of the world. AOT is also very full circle and full of parallelisms, hence, the mental anguish that very motivates Eren is now reflected to children like Gabi.

    Great reaction. The vast majority of the AOT fandom felt the same way as Shane when we saw Sasha's death, and now you know the main reason why Gabi Braun has become the most hated character in the entire AOT fandom.
    A curious fact to keep in mind: Isayama wanted to kill Sasha at the hands of that small titan that she wounded with arrows in its eyes so that that orphan girl could escape, but when his editor read it, he went to the bathroom to cry for a long time, and when he returned he convinced Isayama that he will not kill Sasha in that time, so the author added the scene in which she is found by a group of peasants riding on horseback, led by her father and who had already picked up the orphan girl. That is why, in that arc of the manga, she does not appear again until the arc that is adapted in the third season, but in the anime she did appear more times in the arc of the second season (like the messenger that carried Annie's information to Hange, showing that Reiner and Berthold came from the same area that Annie claimed to come from; and as one of the surviving Scouts of that battle).
    PS: That little titan was Connie's father.

      It's the stark turn in emotion that might have done him in as well. He seemed pretty hyped with the events going on before the shot was shot. Celebrating too early perhaps, like Floch. But that was a bit of naivete, because in reality Gabi and Falco's approach to the ship should have felt like a VERY tense and worrying situation. So the shooting would have been a big slap back to the reality and gravitas of what is happening; it's a war where your loved ones are fully capable of dying. And Sasha is probably one of the best candidates for letting viewers feel the sting of loss in such a war (while also showing how loss makes you less amenable to reason).

    And she was killed by that girl's "Assassin's Bullet."

    the show is so good because it gets you emotionally invested in a diverse cast of well-written characters, and then it pushes the plot and story forward through tough decisions made by those very same characters. Sasha had an opportunity to kill Gabi and chose not to. But Gabi did not hesitate to pull the trigger. It's a cruel world.
