    Hey there, and thanks for this video. Have you noticed this function is now broken in 18.1? ALT+arrows don't work AND even if you select the menu item from TRIM-->SLIP AUDIO, the function STILL doesn't work. Can you confirm? We have 3 PCs editing that just upgraded to 18.1, and the behavior is the same on all installations. For 6 months now, we were able to move entire linked clips (linked audio and video tracks) by subframe using ALT+arrows, now we can't move ANY track by subframe (linked or not) using ALT+arrows OR the menu item! Thanks for any insights you can offer.

    • @nickpoortman
      @nickpoortman ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did find a workaround, but it is frustrating. If you trim the front of the clip(s) and the end of the clip(s), you can then use the keyboard shortcuts again. It's tedious, but it works.

    • @DavidRosengarden
      @DavidRosengarden ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nickpoortman Thanks Nick - I forgot I put this comment here. So I had reached out to Blackmagic Support and they confirmed that this new behavior is AS INTENDED! The official word was that they made this behavior match "in-line" with other popular video editor software. Specifically, what you just described is exactly the solution. I guess (as I learned) the trimming of the ends of the clips is called "handles." So by doing the trimming at the ends of the clips, you create a "handle" on each side. Then, you are allowed to "slip" the audio from the cut parts (the trimmed out parts that are the "handles") back into the uncut portion of the clip. Previously, the sub-frame slip nudge feature was simply creating dead silence without the need to create these "handles." So, as it were, just be sure you (whoever reads this) record enough "dead air" at the beginning and end of your tracks so you can trim the ends to create "handles," then you'll be able to sub-frame slip no problem anymore.

    Hi, thanks this video was helpful. I am slipping audio for 60-100 clips each day in the Media workspace at the moment using the Waveform, however it's not accurate enough because I'm not able to zoom in. When using the Edit workspace to slip audio is there a way to update the synced clip in the Media workspace? Or can you do this in the Fairlight workspace? Or just work more accurately in the Media workspace. Thanks for your help.

    • @CreativeVideoTips
      @CreativeVideoTips  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Joanna. I wish there was but there isn't in the media page. The difference is that the audio is getting dropped onto a timeline vs being forced into a clip that has a locked in frame rate. Avid kind of gets around this by sort of nesting clips so they can sync but only down to a 1/4 of a frame.
      One thing I haven't tried but just thought of while typing would be to try selecting your finely synced clip on the timeline and try creating a subclip from the newly synced portion of the clip. It's worth a shot, but I haven't tested this.

    Audio was still moving by frames for me, even with snapping turned off and I found the solution by going to Preferences > User > Editing and unchecking "Align audio edits to frame boundaries". Also on that screen is "Audio subframe nudge" which can be changed to as small as 1 millisecond.

    Thanks for the lesson. Do you have any advice for audio for one clip starting at the end of the preceding clip? • @CreativeVideoTips
      @CreativeVideoTips  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question - there actually is no such thing as a video subframe. A frame is just a still image, so you really can't move in between 2 still images. Hope that makes sense. The timeline is set to frames. So you will always be moving audio to line up to picture.

    In Adobe Premiere Pro when you use this feature the tracks lose their finely tuned syncing if you move them on the timeline, even if they're linked back up with the video track. I had to import the audio into Adobe Audition, sync it, export it, and import it back into Premiere Pro to get it to stay sync'd. Is this the case for DaVinci Resolve as well, or will the subframe nudges keep even if you move the track on the timeline?

    • @CreativeVideoTips
      @CreativeVideoTips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question Joey, I didn't realize this is how it worked in Premiere. As far as I'm aware from what I've experienced, it WILL hold the sync relationship on the timeline in Resolve.

      There are a few ways to do this. One simple way is to sync the good sound in the media page with selecting both clips - right click - auto sync audio - based on waveforms. You can also line them up on the timeline to sync them, create a multicam clip, or sync bin. Some good stuff on this video fro ya - th-cam.com/video/7LoYeWJgSoQ/w-d-xo.html

      Hey Paul, in general I don't sweat sub frame sync too much unless its very critical. In the case of a VHS capture, the resolution of the visual is so low that it would take an eagles eye to notice a subframe sync issue. So while you can spend time doing this, this way. I personally would leave it as is. Your capture settings are good.

      Are you asking about moving a video clip in between frames? If so, this is a common mis-conception but it’s like dividing by 0. It doesn’t exist.
      1 frame of video is the most zoomed in you can get to a sequence. And timelines are set to that same frame rate as the source clip ideally.
      So for perfect sync to audio you always move the audio because it does have 48,000 samples. More detail in audio waveforms.
