International Flight Transfer at the New Istanbul Airport. We are transferring flights at the New Istanbul Airport in Turkey, one of the world´s biggest airports. This International Transfer at Istanbul Airport video will show you almost in real time how long our Flight Transfer was at the huge new Istanbul International Airport, and should give you an idea of what it is like to have a connection flight or transit at this airport.
We have just landed with a Turkish Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur and now have to make our way through the airport by following the Transfer Signs, through Security Control to the Gate of our next Turkish Airlines flight which will be flying us to Copenhagen. This International Flight Transfer video will give you an idea of just how far the walking distance can be for a connection flight at the New Istanbul Airport in Turkey. The transfer walk through this airport from our arrival gate to our connection flight took well over 26 minutes and along the way we passed through Security Control (not included in this Flight Transfer video) and spent a short time in the main Departures Hall while we waited for our Flight Connection Gate to be announced on the Airport Flight Information Screens. We found the Transfer at the New Istanbul Airport to be relatively easy with good information signs showing in which direction we should walk to reach international connection flight gates. In our case the Flight Transfer was a very long walk which could give passengers with walking disabilities issues. If you have a Flight Transfer at Istanbul Airport and having walking disabilities, you may want to contact your airline or Istanbul Airport to hear what transportation services are available to passengers who have connection flights at this airport. Our two flights for this transfer were with Turkish Airlines.
The New Istanbul Airport is located in Turkey and the Airport Code is: IST
Wiki writes about the New Istanbul International Airport, "Istanbul Airport (IATA: IST, ICAO: LTFM) (Turkish: İstanbul Havalimanı) is the main international airport serving Istanbul, Turkey. It is located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of the city. All scheduled commercial passenger flights were transferred from Istanbul Atatürk Airport to Istanbul Airport on April 6, 2019, following the closure of Istanbul Atatürk Airport for scheduled passenger flights. The IATA airport code IST was also transferred to the new airport Once all phases are completed in 2025, the airport will be able to accommodate 200 million passengers a year.

Thanks for watching, huge it is! We believe that this is the longest Transfer Walk we have ever made at an airport.In this case the Gates were very far apart, but in all fairness, we must mention that when we flew from Copenhagen to Kuala Lumpur via Istanbul our Connection Flight Gate was right opposite our Arrival Gate. We did not know that when we arrived because for that flight we had an 8 Hour wait. So our conclusion is, one can both have extremely long connection flight walks and short connection flight walks at this airport. Good very early morning from Copenhagen Derek! Nice hearing from you and thanks for watching! This airport was indeed huge and the walks were long. It was not a bad place to spend a few hours but we found that the food and drink prices were a little in the high end. We think that many people will be exhausted after the Transit Walk we made, it was really long and probably the longest transfer walk we have ever done at an airport. Regarding Turkish Airlines... we have always heard good things about them and were therefore thrilled to give them a try. The short Business Class flight from CPH to IST was amazing, but we were not impressed with the Long Haul Flights between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul, we will give more facts in a future Trip Report (not sure why so many people rave about them... must be the Business Class they are talking about. We can honestly say that we are VERY Happy to be home again, Kuala Lumpur was awesome but we just did not enjoy ourselves as much because of the hotel standard falling, the poor Turkish Airlines experience and on top of all that the flu :-D WE are looking forward to the next trip whenever that is as we need a positive experience after this last trip! Istanbul Airport is one BIG airport. You really had a good cardio workout! And as you stated, Maxi, it's a good way to get your circulation back after a long flight. Good morning Ron, nice to hear from you! Yes, Istanbul Airport was huge and the Transfer walk we made there is probably the longest transfer walk we have done at an airport. Maro really does have a speeder and sets a good pace, if we both walked slowly this type of video would just be too long, we really want to be able to give viewers a real time feel of what it is like to Transfer at an Airport. Our flight from Istanbul to Copenhagen was fine thank you but we can say ahead of the upcoming Trip reports that this is not an airline first on our list to fly with again. Be carefullllllll don’t exchange money at the exchange office because the rate is so low they are so smart. There is a ziraat bank inside the airport so exchange there rate is so good

My husband just traveled through that airport,he said is the biggest airport with the worst management and service. If you have a connection within 2hours you will miss your next flight. You have to walk a lot to find help or guide. (And my husband is a traveler )

For our other flight Arriving from Copenhagen and flying to Kuala Lumpur the Gates were opposite each other so it took less than a minute to walk over. Most airports are huge nowadays and you can risk a very long walk in all of them, it all depends which gate is allocated to your next flight and which gate your incoming flight arrives at. What a workout just walk from one gate to the next , I totally agree with you on not giving out your passport # just to get on there free wifi ...
Wow, that was quite a walk/transfer. Wonder if they plan on some sort of skytrain (eg. Doha) eventually?
I spent 6hrs+ transferring in the old airport once quite awhile ago, it was as boring as anything, as after buying food, did not have enough Turkish Lira for anything else (still have 750k of Turkish Lira somewhere, lol!).
Might try the new airport sometime, but was not impressed with service on Turkish Airlines that time.
Good morning Douglas! Yes, this was one hell of a walk, probably the longest one we have ever made at an airport! In fairness however, our connection flight walk, when we flew in from Copenhagen was short, actually just the opposite Gate. We just did not know that because the Gate had not been announced yet. 6 Hours in an airport is a long time if there is nothing to to and especially when you run out of the local currency and don´want to use your credit card, we were here for 8 hours ;-) (own choice). The airport is well worth a visit, just to see it, as far Turkish airlines, we have mixed opinions. Watch out for the Trip Reports! Have a good weekend! :-D

HaHa, nice way to put it, thanks for watching! This is indeed a long walk but on the other hand when we were flying out of Istanbul Airport our connection was just across from our Arrival Gate. It took a few seconds to walk from Gate to Gate, but you will never know beforehand what the walk will be like. Hi! What time you guys arrived at Istanbul Airport? I just caught that your departure time for Copenhagen was at 9:30AM but didn't see what time you arrived in Istanbul. I'm checking if the 2 hr 20 minute-transfer time is enough. Mine is international-international transfer in this airport similar to yours.

Have you lost some weight in walking to this airport! It’s really massive! .. my next terminal throughout the other airport in asian Istanbul, small no crowds, best choice for few hours terminal flight “I guess”.

I ask because your walk to departure gate according to to the video is just over 26 minutes and am trying to calculate the time factor for transiting as will be travelling through here alone in May. To answer your question, we did not pass through Immigration, only Security Control as our journey was continuing onward to Copenhagen, Denmark. It took us around 20 minutes to pass through security, it was quite efficient despite the very long queues. Hope that answer helps you :-D

Hi, I enjoy watching your trip reports 👌, I have a question: in February I will travel to SFO so I need to know I will take the direct flight from Paris, Frankfurt or Istanbul. I will travel from Croatia to paris,frankfurt or istanbul then ditectly to San francisco, when I arrive at the airport should I pick up my baggage or just to follow the sign connecting flight (transfer). Can u please help me coz its going to be mu first time flighting in connecting flights, so I need some tips. And one more questions which airport do you suggest for direct flights for Sam Francisco.

Hello Mister N. When you have a connecting flight you don't have to take your baggages. Croatia is 2 hours away to Istanbul and Frankfurt and a bit further to Paris. I tried Air France, Lufthansa and Turkish airlines. Turkish airlines uses B777-300ER . seats are better compared to other two. And if you have a long wait between flights you can choose to tour of Istanbul free.

if you are flying the same airline in both flights (example turkish airlines from zagreb to istanbul and istanbul to sfo) then you just need to follow transfer signs and dont worry about your bag. It will go to sanfran directly.

that walk was too long. They needed to design the airport with customers in mind. Those vehicles should have been designed like trams that can transport like about 30 people at one time, with regular services. You need to be fairly fit to walk that distance. However, if you're fit enough to walk that distance, it's good idea to walk before boarding the plane and sitting for too long.
On the plus side, the shopping areas (duty free) looks nice like modern mall. Fantastic areas to rest and shop.
