I'm only 43 yrs. old I started getting into classic R and B around age 13 because my parents were baby boomers born in mid and late 40s so I was raised on it, Mr. Wilson was well known in our living room, along with so many other legends like Sam Cooke, Joe Tex, Otis Redding, James Brown etc. But he has always been one of my personal favorites, I still jam his songs! Great job sir on this documentary about him.

I listen to them as much as I listen to my generation of music 80's and 90's. I don't know anything about the artist in the last 10yrs.

I am 69 years old, until April 2023. This music has been the best and will always be the best, even better than the lives many of these musicians have lived.
I was a manager for ASCAP there's an old saying in the business that Jackie Wilson was the black Elvis Presley. The people that really know music say no no no, Elvis Presley was the white Jackie Wilson. Rock in Peace, Mr. excitement. ( I saw Jackie perform live in Cleveland Ohio at Leo's casino)

I would like to say Jackie Wilson was one of the greatest man and performers I have ever seen or met in life I knew him as a teenager in my hometown of B'HAM Ala. 👍🏽 he was a friend of a friend that later became a friend of our family Mr.Wilson was soon become like 👍🏽 family he would come looking for my cousin Charles (man)Oliver)to dance and sing I would dance with my cousin and he's really liked our dancing he wanted my mom to let my cousin travel and dance and sing with him however she wouldn't my cousin came to Calif. and he continued to visit and eat, sing and dance 🕺🏾 with the family and became like a member of the family long lives Mr.Jackie Wilson may he 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 🕊 👍🏽 today my cousin still says 💙 he could have been famous 😆 😆 💙 smh ❤

Like any person with ears, I have been a fan of Jackie Wilson, The Four Tops, and the great years of Motown, but I had never heard that Jackie and Levi Stubbs w e r e cousins and w e r e also in a band together with Levi's brother Joe. The level of talent on that stage when they performed must have been Beyond imagining.
It is not stealing when you use someone else's art form. It is imitation. The sincerest form of flattery. Imitating someone shows a great deal of respect and admiration. Most artist "steal" from someone.

There are so great videos on TH-cam of so many performers and for Jackie, the one that stands out to me is him singing and dancing to Baby Workout on ABC's Shindig program. Oh man! Incredible strong and unique voice. Great dancer. Dynamic stage presence and all around entertainer. I'm sorry I never got to see him in person as I'm a little younger than those who came to love him and see him in person. My loss. And the tragedy of his being deceived and taken advantage of, which no doubt was a significant contributor to his health issue and ultimately his passing, just so sad and all of our losses that we could not enjoy him live for more decades.

Jackie was a smooth cat back in his hey days, with a smooth voice to match. I had no idea he was related to Levi Stubb of the Four Tops but is quite shocked to hear of the allegations made by Patty Labelle as Jackie doesn't seem the kind of dude to result to sexually assaulting any woman, being the ladies' man he was. The name Mr. Excitement definitely fits his character as one of the greatest performers of that era. The movie "Coming to America" uses one of Jackie's songs "To be Loved" which is one of his well-known top hits. His money problems due to mismanagement and the last years of his life were so sad and heartbreaking. I always say a biopic movie should be done on this great artist. I saw a play about Jackie Wilson some years ago. In a scene it showed how Berry Gordy was starting Motown and wanted Jackie Wilson to join, but his recording company made promises to him and he stayed. Sadly, they didn't come true. That famous window scene in The Five Heartbeats was really regarding him.

Can you just imagine how many performers we could cancel by claims of stealing styles, moves, techniques? 90% of female singers imitate Madonna. Pop culture controls what people like and dont , Pretty much every UK performer claimed that they were inspired by Elvis. I’ve always understood most Black performers respected and liked Elvis. We all know where and how he grew up. True that most thought Elvis was black when first hearing him but many black performers of that time said Elvis opened doors for them as the entire genre benefited.

My mom's so Jackie Wilson back in the fifties when he came to Newark New Jersey and she said he was so he was just so on time that she was in the front and she had a handkerchief in his hand he kissed it and threw it to her and I said Mom where's handkerchief at she said I was 16 and I don't know what I did with it but he kissed it and threw it to me and I just was all over your dad so Jackie Wilson we just love Jackie Wilson yes indeedy my soul brother Jackie Wilson my moms will never forget that handkerchief he kissed him through to her such a gentleman
