I love Stay In My Corner by The Dells especially when Marvin Junior can hold the note🎵 for a long minute or so it’s just amazing, I also love Oh What a Night and A Heart Is A House of Love as well.

The Temptations is a better movie, but the 5 Heartbeats had a better story. I know that Robert Townsend had alot of constraints around the development and funding for the 5 Heartbeats. But it DEFINITELY set the tone for the Temptations as a movie. Both are classics overall.
Perfect way to put it for a moment I forgot that The 5 Heartbeats came out 7 years before The Temptations movie. They definitely had to come with the heat cause The 5 Heartbeats did set a tone.

A lot of people actually think the Five Heartbeats are a real group thank you in this video letting everyone know that this movie was about the Mighty Dells from Harvey.
The DELLS were absolutely beautiful, the harmonies were unbelievable, I wasn't introduced to their powerful songs until the early seventies, since i wasn't born until 1961, but my older siblings were constantly buying their music, my parents were only listening to their beloved Gospels.
I find it hard to believe that they were told they couldn’t sing early on. They must have done something right because the musical masterpieces they song were outstanding. Especially Marvin junior!
I remember a lot of their songs, and I remember Robert interview about him making the movie. That cartoon was funny! This was a good video of a great group. It was nice to hear about a group that didn’t have problems with drugs. May they all be Resting In Peace!
No not the Mighty Dells they were The MIghty Mighty Dells ... Stay in My Corner ...Always Together... Oh what a Night >was the home coming song . one mint julip Give your Bady A Standing ovation .. the love we had stays on my mind... They took me from middle school to college .. Thank You Brothers
I had never see the Movie “The Five Heartbeats”. Here we are in 2023 and the day before Christmas Eve I was switching channels and there it was on HBO. Wow, the movie is amazing. The history and the ending of this movie was a killer/Combo! Forgiveness, love , Family and Friends. What a beautiful gift for me. I only wished I had seen this sooner! 🙏
I always knew the five heartbeats was based on the dells and i love it i love both the temptations movie and the five heartbeats they are both my favorite movies . Maybe one day a actual movie might be made on the dells because they went through some things to just like any other singing group has.

Their version of "Oh, What a Night" was their best record to me, but I also bought "Bossa Nova Bird" on Argo Records (same label as Etta James) when I was a kid and mowing lawns in order to buy my 45s. Their sound was great soul, but kind of kept them relegated to the R+B chart instead of the Hot 100 pop chart as you can see from the chart positions indicated in this video. Great group. Too bad they didn't go to Motown and get HDH to write them a monster hit like they did for the 4 Tops.

In the 60s and 70s I would go to the Howard Theater in Washington D.C every other weekend to see a different group I mean I've probably seen every artist there was in that error. But I can say the Dells and The Temptations were a group I wouldn't ever miss a show I would stay and watch them over and over again. Wasn't when after the show you had to leave. you could stay as long as you wanted. Those were the days. But IMO the temptations Movie was more of a real life movie.

I have great memories about the Mighty Mighty Dells. I went to Thornton High School (TTHS) too, and was a few years behind them. I was there with Chuck Barksdale's younger brother, Henry, and he He was going with my sister. When he came over, we would sing Dells songs together (he can sing, too) and he eventually married my sister and meanwhile I followed The Dells record for record. I think that one of the worst things that happened to them was the untimely death of Charles Stephney. He was a true force at Cadet, working with Ramsey Lewis, The Rotary Connection and others. My niece still remembers the family atmosphere they had with backyard Bar B Qs and the folks who used to come over. Marilyn McCoo (5th Dimension) remembered her many years later in Houston and talked to her about the good times with The Dells. Their unity was unique; they were truly like brothers who grew up together.

Dells were singing heart beats I don't mean the 5 heartbeats but true talent. Unfortunately their true story wasn't told by the movie industry, not every black group did drugs. 🤦🏾♀️
