Cool intro. Agree with most of this. Bengal went for talent and got it in the draft with Burrows, Chase, Higgins etc, with little left for OL so they had to buy OL and its not the best. Short term thinking. Detroit was already losing before Goff. It was a better long term way to build to start with the line if only to keep Stafford upright. Poles was dealt a tougher situation with aging veterans, dead CAP money, poor capital in the draft etc . He is in the middle of a FULL tear down and rebuild. He's built a pretty darn good looking team so far with a few pieces missing - on the OL for sure. I expected the Bears to learn to win and not turn heads this year. It takes time especially with a rookie QB. Patience is the word. It will get fixed.

Everyone needs to remember it's a Lions got three number one picks for trading Matthew Stafford. So did Texas for trading Watson. Poles didn't even have a first round pick his first year and only had four or five picks total. Not exactly apples to apples

Texas has a LT that's built crazy. The Usc Center I did see get slammed but, he was very good vs Michigan. He was facing 😂😂😂 2 Future All Pro interior DTs. He kept Usc in it more than they would of been. I like the Michigan DTs. Like some of the Edge. But if we took LT in the 1st and moved Braxton to Guard, I wouldn't be mad. I think 🤔 Lsu has another Top 10ish Tackle. 1 of em has Trent Williams length and size so...I would love to add Trent Williams career to LT. I like the Bama Center but I wouldn't give any of them a 1st Rd Grade yet. That Carolina pick, then our 2nd, maybe move up from the 3rd. Those 4 picks should fix the trenches. We want the O to finish the year like the D did last year.

PFF ranked the Bears OL 11th in the NFL entering this season. Last season per ESPN analytics the Bears were top 5 in both pass block win rate and run block win rate. Nate Davis was an above average guard before signing with the Bears. Lucas Patrick who I believe had 50 something PFF grades in his 2 seasons with the Bears and now with the Saints he has a PFF grade in the 80's through 3 games. I think the Bears have a coaching problem.

I dont care what training camp is, you have to play games that count against pro teams to understand what works and what doesnt. The O line is a JOKE. period. And if they dont fix it, theyre F'd. It isnt the coaching as much as it is learning HOW they need to execute based on what they can do well and chucking the rest of the concepts until they find their own rhythm. Poles drafted Darnell Wright in the first round of 2023 and Kiran A in the third round of 2024. He has had 10 top 100 draft picks. He spent 5 on offense (2 OL, 2 WR, and 1 QB) and 5 on defense (2 DL, 2 CB and 1 S). He inherited Tevin Jenkins who was another top 100 pick. The problem that seems to exist currently is OL coaching and communication between OC, OL coach and players.

Swift you need some push-back on your spin. You cite that good teams build the trenches from the draft. I agree as do all real students of the game. Then you go on to defend Poles and Flus telling us be patient this takes time. Okay time for some truth. Poles has been front and center for three drafts. Please name one OL guy that was selected in the first few rounds that is not named Tevin Jenkins. I will wait. Poles has neglected this glaring problem for 3 years too long. You say patience. I say no he does not get it. He thinks he is smarter than everybody else, and he thinks he can find "value guys" that will work into something great. He is wrong, and you are wrong for defending his lackadaisical approach. The most important position (contrary to popular belief) is the CENTER. We have watched the Bears continue to try to make a center out of duct tape and chicken wire... hoping some great value that nobody wants will be coached up. I hear your argument about how a OL is built, and I turn it right around on you. That is EXACTLY not what Poles has been doing. He is really good at trading down and filling the coffers of draft equity. We all know this. He is horrible in spending that draft equity. That is my take.

I’m sorry but I can’t defend Poles on this one. Trying to bring in a bunch of backup guards and centers to compete for starting jobs is not acceptable when we are trying to develop a rookie qb. Especially since there were solid options out there in free agency that could’ve raised the floor on our OLine. Patience is not something we can have for our O Line when we’re trying to coach good habits in what could be our franchise qb. Why wasn’t there any patience for running back?? Why did Poles sign D’Andre swift to big money IMMEDIATELY when free agency began. Bottom line is the priorities are all out of whack and Poles deserves criticism for it.

2024 - Omg, the sky is falling, our o-line sucks. Check back in 2025.
Caleb's going to be fine. We'll have an adequate o-line once they gel in a new system and the entire interior of the offensive line will be rebuilt this offseason.
As far as Swift signing goes, they brought him in after they went after Saquon. They wanted another pass catching option out of the backfield. Free agency sucks man. Very few free agent contracts end up being good value. Draft, develop, and extend.
Please relax with all the toxic negativity. It's very obvious what comes next with a cursory glance at the contract situations.

@@dbb1010 listen the commanders built their OLine this off-season in free agency and Jayden Daniels looks safe in that pocket and they have their run game rolling so I find it hard to believe that with all the cap space we had we couldn’t have done a better job on our O Line. Also if we supposedly have to wait another season before we can have a semi competent offensive line, then why is Poles trading future picks to bolster up our defensive line this season. Why did sign a luxury player like D’Andre swift for 3 years? Why not have Caleb sit behind Justin or another vet for a few weeks or a whole season until this O Line gets where they need to be? How can he possibly be in win now mode with an offensive line like this. It really seems like he believed that his “value” guys could get coached up into being a functioning offensive line. Justin got absolutely destroyed in his first year and we saw all his bad habits get cemented and now we’re seeing them get coached out of him by a competent coaching staff. I don’t trust Eberflus’ staff to coach any bad habits out of Caleb if he forms them by running for his life on every play. That’s where the concern is. It’s funny in this video Swiftie brought up the Bengals and the Lions. Well the Bengals could’ve drafted Penei Sewell but they chose to go with a receiver and now a couple years later they’re paying the price. Seems like we did the exact same thing they did.

it’s not it’s not about having a good old line or a battle line. Ultimately, it’s just about winning even if your line isn’t good. You still have to figure out a way to win by using them in the best way possible the Bears cannot sit here and say oh until the old line gets good three years from now, we’ll just keep losing that sort of the issue. I think a lot of people have.

What you dont realize swift is that the picks are irrelavent. You get the best players you can. No GM can asseble a team full of allstars. The BIGGER issue is Poles inability to secure adequate COACHING. Getsy was a joke, and it's starting to look like Waldron might be the same. All of this is happening on EBERFLUS' watch. Do you think a coach like Mike Tomlin would hesitate to fire (or at least take playcalling from) and coach on his staff that was incompetent? You also have to consider that Flus is still struggling with clock management and situational football decisions. It's not a good look. You can't outplay bad coaching. The players know when their coach is incompetent. They will start to revolt. THIS is why i have a problem with Poles.

This is some good work as always Swifty but they came to chicago pulling things apart before having any fixes. Sent a perfectly good guard to the Steelers for millions more than they tried to replace him with. The guy is still there in Pittsburgh now doing at least good work in front of Fields today, while the hole Poles created is yet to be filled with anyone comparable. And he refused to draft a solid center while getting Pickens and Roschon Johnson (two guys who can’t stay on the field.) At every turn they’ve used the ‘scheme fit’ to complain about why they couldn’t do it yet there ‘is no successful scheme’ from anything they’ve built in 3 years, both OC’s of their own making. The list is long and of their own failed choices and their primary swing at drafting a tackle is this year having serious problems ….all of it while they protect the Oline coach who clearly seems to be going backwards. Seems almost nobody can get to the second level blocking. Finally as you point out Pryor seems to be doing the job but it took forever for them to play him.

Ironically signing swift has caused an avalanche of negative effects even the biggest swift doubters couldn't have foreseen. It weaked or o line (most obvious), it hurt calebs critical early development and possibly some of his confidence, if undermined our already decent rb room who was unfairly underated due to justins domination with his run game, and finally it has cause enormous doubt towards poles as our gm making such an unneccesary move since it likely caused us to lose at least 1 or 2 very close games where we just needed a little help from the run game but got nothing. Poles has done ok but this shows 1 really boneheaded mistake can overshadow many good ones. As you said lions o line is great which explain why we mistaked swift for a solid rb.
