Looking for dinner in the shallows with the fam (seabass fishing from kayaks)

  • Was able to get my brother, sister in law, my sister, and dad all out on the kayaks in the sound to try and get some fresh fish for dinner. We basically fished a similar area to where my dad and I found the seabass in the shallows the previous week. They weren't exactly in the same spot but they were in the general area, it just took some time to find them as the wind was a bit stronger than forecasted. Once the tide switched it became tough to stay on the school with the large group of kayaks so we just drifted back slowly. All in all it was a great time out there and we did pretty good for the short fishing window we had

    Is that Sands Point preserve at Hempstead Harbor? Sand cliffs look familiar.

    You guys had a lot of fun! You did too! I enjoy when my family comes fishing with me but I’m also stressed because I do all the work baiting, handling the fish and untangling.

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For sure!! It’s always a blast but you just have to go into it knowing you won’t be able to fish yourself too much. Lol it’s def tough to keep everyone fishing and there’s a lot more going on, was harder to make a video too lol

    Peter
    that was very interesting to see the other man( brother? n law?)
    to pull up two small fish and you NEVER small
    why
    I will guess that you know how to jig it more aggressively?
    or maybe because you put the pro cure on
    which made it more desireable and the bigger fish
    beat out the smaller ones taking the bait?
    what do you think
    just a random occurance?

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s my brother, yep good observation. We drifted off the school of seabass and boulders and were in mostly sandier bottom at that point

    • @stevetautog880
      @stevetautog880 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      oh it was because you drifted away from the desired spot
      ok in that case i would guess that if you had been alone you definitely would have anchored up
      but I shall guess that none of them had anchors?
      right?

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stevetautog880 correct anchoring is good or just resetting the drift quickly to get back on them. Its just harder to do this with a bunch of people especially if they aren't too experienced

      this is in NY where it's 16.5" for a keeper. I Just like to make sure they are 0.25" over in case they shrink in the cooler
