    Nice keeper! The shallows have been producing better on the Southshore as well.

    Nice catch Peter. I feel it's way more difficult to catch a keeping size fluke on west sound than east end. Seem the lure at 1:33 didn't get any bite. do you have any idea how fish response to lure of different colors? Thank you.

      Thank you! For sure, its harder to get bigger fluke in the western sound vs east end but actually right now in the early season we may have better numbers than out east. I think the main reason that lure didn't get bites is the smell. Just my thought, but fluke are much more keen on scent than other fish, the color matters less. Selecting the color is usually a function of the lighting and water clarity for me. I want the fish to see it, and many times when the water is dark, the darker colors create good silhouettes.

      @@PeterRanieriII Thank you for the insight. Scent may play a bigger role than color on certain fish. I was wondering if ProCure with blue crab scent can be alternative when fishing blackfish. I could have a try in this fall.😀

    Great session on the fluke Peter! Wish we had them up in Canada! The closest we get is flounder up here!

      Thanks ah man too bad, they are a fun inshore fish to catch and eat. The flounder you have are only an offshore thing?

      @@PeterRanieriII we get them in both inshore and offshore! You can literally fish off any harbour, port or bridge to get them here which is great!

    Those are sand eels that the fluke are feeding on right now. The sandeel hatch on the mid Island North shore began over the weekend. The fluke fishing should be fantastic for the next 10 days especially center long island sound Eatons Neck area shallow water.

    I noticed in your last few videos your not using your motor guide xi3 and a smaller trolling motor why is that? I also have a compass and really want spot lock on it what’s your opinion/ thoughts?

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Ricky, the main reason I keep using the smaller side motor lately is because I’m doing short trips and not needing spot lock. I think I’ll start using it more when seabass opens and I explore a little deeper and want that anchoring ability. Then for blackfish season I’ll really use it. But for now these short trips in shallow and only short drifting then I really don’t need it

    as usual great video, 66 degrees water temp must be surface back in the harbour, last week the sound was 58 average

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      actually this is in the sound but I think because its in the afternoon it makes a big difference. And yes it is after all just the surface temp, prob cooler a mere 10ft lower

    Hey whats that motor you are using ? And why arent you using that xi3?

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is just a watersnake T24 and it’s connected in the rod holder. It’s just light and simple so I took it this outing where I didn’t have much time and didn’t need spot lock. I really only think I need the xi3 for anchoring in deeper water and faster currents. When seabass season opens I’ll prob use it more

    Great session. Believe it or not, I grabbed an out of season keeper tog on an artificial sand eel this past weekend. Goes to show that you can find just about anything right now.

    The fluke bite around Block Island has been fair to poor lately. But the inshore bite off the beaches has been really good. The squid season has ended prematurely due to the extremely slow bite. Our sea bass is closed until the 18th.

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      really? I guess the deeper water block island bite is a later in the season kind of thing. yeah man seabass here not until the 23rd its tough

    6:57 Those cormorants are successful, and they NEVER hit a lure. Somehow fish fall for fake and cormorants never do.
    Peter, you don't have a Boga Grip? If you don't and chose to but a fish lip gripper, don't buy any knock off models. I probably tried three or four different types. All with sub par results. All the while, using my friend's original Boga Grip. His is 25 years old and now mine is 10. They are still in the same condition as the day they came out of the box. They're great ! Once they get that lip.....you are in control. Some knock offs don't close tightly enough to hold big fish. Some do but the device is difficult to get into the mouth of the fish. Boga slips in and clamps down. I, still trying go cheap, bought the 15 lb smaller one. Get the 30 pound scale bigger one. Mine is GREAT. But my buddy's 30 lb is better.
    Put a float on it. I'm cheap. I use a plastic water bottle. It's a game changer for handling fish. Sometimes a net is better, but rarely.
    10:58 I think it was your gulp bait....
    Nice clip.
    I tapped the thumbs up 👍 button to feed the algorithm monsters.

      They never hit lures its so true. Those birds really fascinate me, I wish I had a fraction of their success rate lol. I don't have any boga grip, just never really felt the need for one and they seem kinda bulky. Same with lip grips but idk maybe its time to get one, thank you for the recommendation though if I do get one. haha I assure you it wasn't the gulp that he spit out, definitely some partially digested fish but alas we will never truly know...thank you for feeding them
