I grew up a baseball fan in the Bay Area, and when I was a kid, the Giants were the team. And it was a great team: Mays, Cepeda, Davenport, McCovey, Felipe Alou, Marichal. By nature I'm a contrarian, usually identifying with the underdog, so in 1968 when the Athletics moved to Oakland, and probably because all of my friends were Giants fans, I decided to join the fandom of the new Oakland Athletics. And they didn't disappoint. Catfish, Reggie, Capt. Sal, Rudi, Campaneris, Vida, Rollie. They came into town and from Day-1 had swagger. They made the playoffs in '71. Won it all in dynastic fashion the next three years. They quickly rewarded me for shifting my fandom to the A's in '68.
Of course, the history and legacy of the A's in Oakland makes the move from Oakland painful. But for me, the heart and soul of the A's over its history was formed by the city they played in. The culture of Oakland and the East Bay became the culture of the A's. They developed a reputation for tenacity, hard work, family, blue collar never-say-die determination, winning when they were counted out, exceeding expectations. Always the underdog, but always #1 with their fans. The Athletics will not be the same team, will not have the same culture and character now that they have been yanked away from Oakland, because Oakland formed the culture and character of the A's. What sort of culture will they adopt in West Sacramento when the owner won't even formally acknowledge that the A's are playing in Sacramento for the next three years? What sort of culture will they have in Vegas (if they ever play there) which other than glitz and cheesiness doesn't have a real community identity? It was the identity of the OAKLAND Athletics which gave the fans pride. And now that's gone. My fandom is now in free agency.

The Dodgers won 9-1 or something like that. 3/4s of the stadium was filled with Dodger fans, the rest with As fans. It was fun, but the stadium was terrible. I grew up doing to the finest stadium in the league (Dodger Stadium) Parking was a joke. I got out of the car and walked into the stadium, but the people I drove with didn't get in until the 5th inning! The concessions were pathetic. The best thing though was that they had an awesome firework's show. The best one I have ever seen and we got to watch it lying right behind 2nd base in center field. I am looking forward to them playing at River Cats stadium in Sacto, though. Much closer to me and the stadium is not surrounded by homeless villages where people openly shoot up. I will go again when they play the Dodgers. Oakland is a mess and it really needs to get its shit together. I am sure the owner sucks, as well.

The Oakland Coliseum is what you get with 30+ years of Progressive government. The City and County refused to spend a dime on the facilities they owned. Every time the A's try to come up with a new location to build on, either the government or labor unions or regulations or lawyers or greed got in the way (aka the Giants blocked them from San Jose). Meanwhile the surrounding area fell apart, the City fell into a crime ridden chaos, MLB gave up after years of warning, and every sports team left to a better business environment. This isn't about the A's. Its about complete government failure which unfortunately, won't admit it or change.

And NOBODY wants to invest in that shlthole city anymore. I've been a Raiders fan since 1970, and I was glad to see them leave for Las Vegas. The city refused to work with them on anything. Just another disaster of the Progressive activists, ruining another city in the United States of America. These cities are a SHINING EXAMPLE of what they want for the entire country !! How can ANYONE look at these cities and actually want to live like that ???? Someone please enlighten me if you subscribe to those policies... I feel for the people that are stuck in that situation. Maybe you can save enough to leave at some point in the future. Good luck ✌️🙏

I'm somewhat torn. I just got from San Francisco/Oakland a few weeks back.
Yes, Oakland looked like a dump from the Bart train
Yes, the site around the stadium was a dump
Yes, the coliseum itself was a dump.
HOWEVER, those were some of the most rabid fans I'd ever seen. I'd rather watch a game with those fans (and arguably in the Oakland Coliseum) over the Rangers at Globe Life Field anyday. I'm 100% confident that if they gave those fans a new stadium it would be packed. There were lots of fans taking the train from San Francisco to watch the As.

The construction of "Mount Davis" was one of the extreme examples of a renovation that made a baseball stadium look worse. I understand that it was because the Raiders returned to Oakland in 1995, but it was still lousy.
The Oakland Coliseum should have been condemned long ago just for the leaky sewage pipes, & the infestation of rates & feral cats.
John Fisher (and other possible investors) should have paid for a new stadium, or the owners of other MLB teams should have forced him to sell the team.

There will not be a 3rd or 4th deck if its only 35000 so its a smaller look. A minor league park look. So fisher will have a minor league park look in vegas. The whole problem started back in the 60ies and 70ies when both the A's and Raiders had to play in the same building.
