When I was a kid 65 years ago, my little bro and I had a paper route. We served about a quarter of our smallish town, so it was a big route everyday, and we often worked into the night during the winter. As part of the job, we had to get up about 4 a.m. every Sunday and deliver the gargantuan version of the Sunday Register and Tribune. Each copy ran over a pound typically, so we were lugging around a lot of weight. Sometimes in winter, if it was particularly cold, my dad would get up early and help us. By cold, I mean -50 to -75 degrees below zero F with windchill on top of that. It took several hours to complete the route, and as a treat after we got home, my mom would often make us fresh hot chocolate and toast and butter with apple jelly. For some reason, that is one of those Heavenly combos. Believe me, you've not tasted delicious hot chocolate until after delivering hundreds of copies of the Sunday Register and Tribune for several hours in early morning darkness in -75 degree below zero weather. I don't think she ever had those cute holiday decorations sitting next to the cocoa cups on the table though.
It’s a snow day today, we got 10” last night, and I’m making a hot cup of cocoa for my 9 year old who just came in from playing. Great recipe. She loved it. Thank you!
When I got home from work my mama was getting ready to make this very recipe. I told her to keep the half & half in the recipe, and instead of whole milk she used unsweetened almond milk. She didn’t put all the sugar as we tend to use a tad less of any sweetener. We also used the cocoa powder we had on hand which was a delicious black cocoa powder I got from Amazon. It was the *BEST* fresh hot cocoa I ever had!!!!! Thanks for the great idea and for sharing. 😄
I am a hot chocolate snob, I don't drink coffee and am very picky about places that don't make as good hot chocolate as they do there coffee. Where I live we have a company that makes one of the best hot chocolates I have had. My 7 year old son and I made this today and it tasted just like that hot chocolate. This was absolutely fantastic. Thank you!!! Now even during quarantine we can have our favorite hot chocolate at home.
When you're mixing in your powdered ingredients "really well" you might want to pay attention to the big blob stuck in your mug opposite the handle. That being said... A thermos of hot cocoa always accompanied us onto the mountain when my parents used to take us up to find the perfect Christmas tree (I truly pity people who have only had "farmed" trees from those depressing lots in their lives - such a delightful adventure was the perfect way to begin the Christmas festivities!) and hot cocoa always brings a smile to my face.
This is how my mother used to make it when we were kids. Before you could just open a pouch and add water. Delicious! Merry Christmas! We love your channel.
Thank you for the recipe! I used unsweetened almond milk and it turned out great! A bit too sweet for my taste, but that can easily be adjusted. And I spilled some milk too hahaha
I stumbles across your videos the other day while looking for a soft pretzel recipe. Since then, not only did I make the pretzels but I'm hooked on your videos! Keep 'em coming! They are enjoyable to watch and I think you explain your ingredients and directions very well. I can't wait to see more. :)
I added just a couple of peppermint oil to it instead of vanilla and it tasted like a peppermint patty. Very addictive. Tomorrow night I am going to try this cherry flavoring that you use for candy making because I love chocolate covered cherries 🍒.. wish me luck 🤞.
I used 2 teaspoons of cocoa and added a peppermint disk candy to disguise the fact that I used cocoa powder in stead of chocolate and it came out divine! You could easily substitute the peppermint flavor with peppermint extract.
So, I decided to switch out the whole milk for coconut milt and added some cinnamon. It really tastes amazing! Wouldn't advise doing this if you like more rich or less sweet hot cocoa. Its really good!
Quick tip : put some ice cream in the microwave for 10 seconds until it's melted, just don't burn it, and add it on the top, no mixing though, it just adds a nice smell and gives a better tase, even if you mix it.
When you said that there might be a foot of snow outside or it might be icy I was like I WISH cause I live in Dubai where it's in the dessert and i have never actually felt or seen snow in real life
I’ve heard that hot cocoa is based on water, and hot chocolate is based on milk. Is that true? I was convinced it was but then I saw your caption and asked myself if it’s really true or not haha. Anyway, you’re a really good chef! Your explanations are simple and good and I always learn something from your videos. Thankyou! (btw I’m from Holland, maybe I made some grammer mistakes haha)
Tip: don’t use sugar as a substitute for granulated sugar(also known as icing sugar). They have two different tastes. All you need to do to make granulated sugar is to take some sugar, get a blender and blend. If you don’t have a blender you can always try crush the sugar by yourself, but it will take some time.
I tried to make whipped cream by using some heavy cream mixed with a little bit of powdered sugar, but it was far too runny. Should I just add more powdered sugar?
This turned out great! Even my picky BF liked it. The base recipe is yummy by itself, but it's also perfect for playing around with so I did make a few modifications. - I used almond milk instead of regular milk (I can't have dairy :"c) - I used monkfruit sweetener instead of regular sugar (personal preference) - I increased the vanilla to about a cap full -- it's imitation vanilla because I'm poor, not sure if real vanilla would be stronger - I added a little bit of almond extract - I added a little bit of cinnamon It's honestly some of the best cocoa I've had in a while! I will say that I used regular ol' Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder, which is cheap, so it would probably be even better if I'd used more expensive/high quality cocoa powder instead.
I sub out complex sugar syrup and hazelnut for the sugar and it makes mixing a bit easier. I put wverythimg in a pot and mix with a milk frother. Pour into my cup and away I go.
I don't care about it, and I would completely omit plain boring salt. Unsweetened hot cocoa is the best and, while it may be a little too bitter for some people who eat only sweet (or salty) things, I don't have any problems with it.
I made this recipe and it’s great but the whip cream had no pressure left in it cause my bro sprayed it in his mouth up right so depression but still delicioso
can i use oat milk! ? i’ve tried the whole milk version and it taste exactly like the one from bush gardens that i crave every so often before their christmas town , i noow know how to make it at home 😅
Can I use milk instead of melk?
MegaJared2 It is an unusual accent he has. I like it though. Where in America is he from?

The best hot cocoa recipe ever. Absolutely the best.
Needed an extra large mug for this but it's really good. I used about 2 tsp Dutch processed cocoa and stirred with a cinnamon stick!
This is the best Recipe I’ve ever seen for hot cocoa
I like to add sweet cream coffee creamer, it’s so good. Also you can add a shot of unsweetened coffee
I never had hot chocolate all my life and everytime i watch tv shows featuring it makes ne crave for it. Now im old enough, i can make one my own
