This is a great build. However you should definitely use ember of singing. Unlimited class ability which means Unlimited knives and ignitions without needing kills. Let's you take on champions and boss tier enemies with it. Also run skyburner's oath. 2 shots plus 1knife throw is an ignition.
As long as you do the loop right, you don't need singing either. I would replace searing with Ember of Char. Makes you spread ignitions much better in higher level stuff. So if something survives the ignition, 1 knife to ignite them, and continue the loop. And the +10 Discipline is the chary on top, hehe.
I run a build with the exact same fragments and everything, except I use skyburners to apply scorch, and then throw a weighted throwing knife to proc an ignition instantly, from any distance. Very fun :)
Love solar cause it’s the only subclass/damage type that takes into account the initial damage source for scorch stacks. Allows you manipulate your build to the maximum to loop abilities and damage boosts depending on which are up. Only exception might be solar weapons in a well with ember of beams (super final blows cause ignitions). I haven’t tested that yet to see if it’s ability or weapon damage for golden tricorn
Yeah… I made a build around it to replace YAS but it’s DEFINITELY not the same 😔. I’m still gonna keep it just in case something around it gets buffed, either the exotic itself or the explosive knife. I highly doubt it tho since it’s relatively new exotic and Explosive knife got nerfed a little while back but oh well. Maybe Shards will be decent after it’s buff idk. Until I see something reliable, I quit my Solar Hunter. At least we have Stasis buffs to look forward to.

I get the sentiment of it being mid in low light content but is acc somewhat decent in master raids as tapping a red bar with a hand cannon allows you to comfortably kill them with the knife which sets off an ignition. I don't think we will ever get another solar hunter build that allows you to free up all 3 weapon slots for doing dmg but calibans is by no means unusable, just needs a little more tinkering than yas's spam and forget play style.
I’m happy to see this thing getting love. I used to run hunter as my third character, and when I did the campaigns, I would play with throwing knives only using ophidia. It’s a really fun and silly play style.

Adding the aspect for ignitions cause scorch seems like it would help with this build as if there are more than 1 enemy on a yellow bar you may be able to quickly stack and chain ignitions to melt.
So glad to see ophidia spathe get attention. I started using it in PvP with divinity to get ability kills for iron banner bounties. Which opened me up to its value as literally double the amount of knives. And youre already playing hunter, so when in Rome...

Love this exotic so slept on! didint know the ignitions killing from the second set of knives allowed for knivees to come out was always annoyed with ahamkaras wen i was spaming melee back to back with no delay wasting melee
One question. If we are using Skyburner’s Oath, wouldn’t Weighted Throwing Knife be best? It has better accuracy, immediately ignites scorched targets, and functional from midrange where knife trick fails to land all 3 knives.
I thought about making a build with ophidia ngl. But I was gonna use skyburners oath with weighted throwing knife since it causes scorched targets to ignite. Then it can also be paired with a decent nade like solar nade too for lots of scorch and ignitions
I use Ophidia spathe as my solar build alot and I never thought of using the eruption fragment. I have two thoughts though, one is that i like to use a one two punch shotgun in my kinetic slot to really mow down those tanky targets. two is make sure you change your helmet mod from solar siphon to harmonic siphon so that you can fit an extra mod on, even if it's just a second harmonic siphon.
A slight alternative I use is Monte Carlo for a primary. Kinetics do more damage (plus I can use solar reserves for my solar special+heavy), and on top of that, MC’s perk refunds both knives for just doing damage. With that on top of your dodge you can refund your knives either up close or at a distance!
Great in PvP too! 2 instant kill knives in your back pocket, 2 tripmine knives for choke points, 2 fan knives for shotgun cleanups, 2 lightweights for people that can land them😅
I remember running Ophidia Spathe a few years back just spamming Knife Trick and really enjoying it, feels good to see it in full swing again. I still like using Shards of Galanor (plus it's getting buffed thanks to the exotic description updates) for Blade Barrage, but I might see about using this with 6 shot Golden Gun, been a very long time since I've used it, although I'll definitely need to tweak this build a bit
Coming back to this video during season of the wish and after using this build I'd suggest two things: use Crota auto rifle with incandescent/Heal clip and use Dragon's Breath for the heavy. Best idea of my life lmfao
Had an Ophidia loadout saved for over 2 years now, updating it as the sandbox changed. Really love the flexibility and synergies it offers. Also, looks really great c: Also, the decision between Gunpowder and On Your Mark is always tough, i do agree gun feel and fragment slots are huge but i prefer the explosions atm. Still swap them every once in a while, really hard for me to settle for just one lol
The problem with anything trying to replace YAS is that all the other knife builds will get you killed in Master/GM content requiring you to play too dangerously close or they just don’t do nearly enough damage to compete with other subclasses and builds Arc Hunter has two viable Grenade spam exotics yet YAS being a PVE problem boggles my mind.
When I watched this today I laughed because I just designed an identical build last night. This build is pretty good, but it does struggle in higher end pve content due to the fact that you have to be close to the boss to utilize your melee to its full potential. I know he said that you can fix this problem with fragments and aspects, but you really can't change the fact the knives spread out the farther get from your target. So in conclusion, this build is great for low level pve content, but it struggles in high level solo pve content where the bosses are chunky (if you are careful you can manage).
but significantly worse. you need to either get kills to get them back (good luck with that in endgame), or dodge assuming you have that. if you do dodge, you can get a maximun burst of 4 knives on a single target, compared to the hammer build where the burst is infinite.
Honestly I've been using this as my solar exotic in PvE since Shards of Galanor was nerfed.....4yrs ago 😂. Solar 3.0 just made it so much better, and Gunpowder Gamble is just the icing on top 👍🏻

Solar hunter has always felt the worst to me, but the times ive used this exotic its been okay. That said it kinda seems like a less damage/ad clear but more healing version of the shinobus vow build. Id rather throw constant jolt nades than knives. But you do you, stabby lads.
Wait gunpowder gamble gives 2 slots not 1 right ? Also this is not gm level build , you die with that close to enemies spamming your knives without blinding them , sometimes you never get back your knives
Not really, I thought about it and it’ll choke in end game content. Knives by themselves can’t even kill a red bar in a GM so the bonus super energy is not even applicable there. Unless it buffs the damage of knives or something. I’m hopeful tho, I need something good to replace YAS so I can use my Solar Hunter again
Nah its got potential but its not endgame tier. Bungie will definitely buff it in the future. The current best neutral game solar hunter build is Lucky Pants with Sunshot.
Use iron banner armor with it. I currently use Iron Companion arms, and Iron Truage legs, helmet, and cloak. Always changing shader, but I find myself going back to Seventh Sister a lot.
You've released a video on Hunter build, therefore, the almighty gods of bungie will finally decide to fix ophidia spades, and on kill it will restore one charge of knives instead of two. or maybe they'll change it to give 4x surge, and no longer give 2 charges of melee whatsoever, because that seems to be trend with exotics now. Remove what they truly are, and replace it with surge
Tbh literally every Hunter used this exotic in S20, or Defiance, and it was absolutely incredible together with the double igniting firebolts. After that season tho, I honestly still think it’s good, definitely better than YAS now, but not good enough. Caliban’s is probably better, and the Sixth Coyote does the same thing, but you get your dodge back faster while scorching… so you even have a backup for those times you’re not close enough to enemies when dodging. (Ophidia is obviously better for this spesific purpose, aka knife spam, although the fact that they’re close and that the loop is the same, but you just dodge more often with Coyote says a lot unfortunately. Ophidia could be really good if they changed it to two melee charges no matter the subclass, and Omnioculus still wouldn’t be useless as it refunds when making teammates invis.)
The current wording is right since it let's you use your melee ability twice per charge. It also pairs well with Gamblers Dodge since that only refills 1 charge regardless of how many you can have. For example Gamblers + Omnioculus would only refill 1 charge if both were empty.
Hmm nah hard pass. I can’t picture bringing this into a GM. Knives struggle to kill red bars there. That’s why Tripmines were so good. I hate Bungie for nerfing YAS.

What's nice about skyburners with this set up is that a single knife throw applies 90 scorch and a single skyburner shot is 10 so a perfect ignition.
I wish that calibans hand was at least able to handle higher level content, I really love the explosions it can cause

With most Hunter solar kits you can do exactly this without OS. That's why it's not used.
