I have to question whether only mowing a 1/4 circle is always a bad thing. When the grasses are tougher or very tall I actually find it less tiring to cut a little less on each stroke.

I noticed that your bottom handle makes you pull your tool. I have my bottom handle in the the other way, so I push it. Very interesting, I wonder what is the best way. Hope you understand what I mean....
The bottom handle at a Nordic gives you possibilities to push it even with a totally open hand throughout the stroke. No other snath gives you that. And the upper handle ease pulling back.
My biggest mistake is buying modern scythe hardware (assembly at the end of the snath where the blade mounts) instead of sticking with the ancient cast metal hardware I had on my old straight handeled scythe. The new stuff is crap. Where do I find a source for old style cast pieces other than buying old scythes andmaking a new snath?
I hate the algorithm. I was SUGGESTED one video of a woman cutting a lawn with a scythe, which was interesting to see how it's done, and now i dont care. But TH-cam seems to believe i have discovered a new love for scythe mowing and i apparently can't wait to get started? Fuck off, TH-cam .
I scythe fairly regularly in the summer but only for very short sessions, and I find I get tense and sore if I try to go at full pace straight from the off. I would recommend gently warming and loosening your muscles up beforehand, starting at a very steady pace and pausing to loosen up some more each time you feel yourself getting tense.
my main problem is that i don't get my scythe sharp. there is an very very old rusty scythe on our farm yard. this one is really sharp and this cuts so easy and it is easy to get that sharp with the hammer. but all new scythe blades i bought (no cheap ones) don't get that sharp. i tried much things. nothing helped... the only thing i did not try was an angle grinder.
If you are not disabled you spend way less time turning parts of your lawn to a natural meadow and mow it once a year instead of maybe 15 times with lawn mower. I addition you get cut grass as a resource for covering and give nutrients to plants that needs that. Or making a nice compost where you after some years can harvest the best planting-soil. And scythe mowing is extremely fun and addictive to master. And cheap, silent, durable and sustainable comparing to the machines. Mowing lawn as a lawn with scythe is no problem either.
the error at the begining was to use a scynth XD lawmower tractor 12hp or best 18hp power XD 2600square meter 1.5 mount of rainy summer... 5 cubic meter at least of grass ready to be dumped neat ur compost.. made in 5 hour ^^ even think to do it again with a lawmower made me sick XD
the 2600 square meter was taller than was its in this video somewhere more, somewhere less but average a litlte more... best trick to use a lawmower is to made it often enough to be at full speed all time.. and have the ability to take a rainy week of delay cuz its cut often enough .. best is to cut after sunny day just before a rain.. grass dont like be shortened if it dont have a fresh drink after
Scything comes easy for some, and is more difficult to learn for others, regardless of wether their parents knew how to scythe. I take it you are carrying on the tradition! (Vissa har lätt för att slå med lie medan andra har svårare att lära sig, oavsett om deras föräldrar kunde eller inte. Jag antar att du för traditionen vidare!)
not really, I like "living in a jungle" I never bother to do anything for my garden, +1500m2,, as long the road is clear to walk/drive, all the other can stay green... =)@@slattergubben6702

my main problem is that i don't get my scythe sharp. there is an very very old rusty scythe on our farm yard. this one is really sharp and this cuts so easy and it is easy to get that sharp with the hammer.
but all new scythe blades i bought (no cheap ones) don't get that sharp. i tried much things. nothing helped... the only thing i did not try was an angle grinder.
The steel is probably too hard, so you can't flatten it thinly enough.
i feared that, this could be the problem. perhaps i really have to buy another old scythe blade on ebay
I have made all these mistakes + I discovered that I have been mispronouncing ‘scythe’ my entire life.
I think pronouncing is due to if you are native English or american
I’m curious about how you used to say it as I’ve only ever heard the pronunciation used in the video
@@Nick_308 the other is "skythe"
@@Nick_308 I always pronounced the ‘c’ as a ‘k’
My EXP is too low to mow by scyth
time to get on that then!
I click on ONE scythe video
That's how it goes :)
My biggest mistake is not having a proper snath!
Soon it's hopefully hit the road❤️

I live in a city, I did never scythe and have no plans on doing it, why did I watched the whole video?😂

Ahhh… Now I can why people invented lawn mower
I'm surprised people still have time do this with lawn mowers around.
5 cubic meter at least of grass ready to be dumped neat ur compost.. made in 5 hour ^^ even think to do it again with a lawmower made me sick XD
the 2600 square meter was taller than was its in this video somewhere more, somewhere less but average a litlte more... best trick to use a lawmower is to made it often enough to be at full speed all time.. and have the ability to take a rainy week of delay cuz its cut often enough .. best is to cut after sunny day just before a rain.. grass dont like be shortened if it dont have a fresh drink after
Only a quarter :o
It's not hard to learn ..det är inte svårt, fast alla har ju ínte haft fäder med bakgrund som bonde ;-) bland mycket annat
I want to scythe....I do .... I really do......but there is always beer in my fridge.....and I live in a apartment......
Не умеет косить. Разве так косят!
I take it that’s how they use to cut grass before lawn mowers were invented
Too bad they don't make scythe for left handed
But we sell worldwide, also left-handed of both the Nordic and the Austrian snath. www.slattergubben.se
Make one. Been trying to find someone. I want to alternate sometimes.
Tell ya need a neck sling, or belt sling. So, all do is move your hips side to side. Holding it and swing it with your arms side by side is? tiresome
I physically can't.
The old scythes are superior, the new ones aren't worth it, they are useless.
@@AveSeba-b6z if you buy crap yes. But we sell a lot of new quality scythes www.slattergubben.se
@@slattergubben6702 Awright boss, as soon as I gef rid of this disability, I catch up on you.
The first mistake is to not use a mower.
Only mistake is if the grass doesnt cut
you must be really fit.
This is bad education. People will not remember your words, but will remember the images of bad techniques. The correct technique should follow immediately after wrong technique.
That's a point. Hopefully people finds my other videos!
Although your suggestion is good calling it bad education is stupid. Only stupid people who have no patience to watch the entire video wont remember how to fix the mistakes. Dont be a troll.
Considering it's a videos about common mistakes tend to be more of a jumping off point for further learning I wouldn't consider it that bad.
After all if they genuinely wanted to learn more they can look at his other series
Great video 👍 where can I buy a good scythe? Thanks 🫡
