I know this is not my typical How To Videos, but I would like to Vlog our home renovation progress and let you know were we are and our future plans of our 1970 home! Starting with our Garage Door. It was time to replace our 40 year old garage door with the COSTCO Amarr special. With our garage door not functioning anymore I think its safe to say that we needed an upgrade! Can you install the garage door so the windows are on the left? Or do they have to be on the right? Our garage is on the left side of the house, so it would look better if the windows were on the left.
Yes most definitely, Costco representative will go over the customization with you. The company they go through and contract is AMARR . You can make the windows clear, translucent, etc. very customizable on the profile as well 👍🏽😊

That door is insulated. It is a Wayne Dalton model 9100. It's heavy because the spring is broke. That's why the cable is hanging loose.

You should grease the bottom of the rail on the new opener. Every liftmaster opener comes with a little tube of grease for it but a lot of guys miss it.

My Neighborhood is a HOA and I read the handbook nowhere does it say we can’t have garage doors like this.. granted most of the doors don’t have windows , the more expensive homes on the other side of my neighborhood do.. which is still same HOA of course

That looks great. You have plans for so much work, it sounds a bit overwhelming. I had a door replaced a few years ago, have a different garage now with 2 doors that need to be replaced. They're not cheap though.

Just upgraded my garage door also last year i didnt think it would cost as much as it did got a black door also with upgrades I even was able to get a guy to put a new black aluminum frame for the border of the garage door

I really like that door! Plus, our front door is black, and this would fit nicely. We do have an automatic light sensor in the garage. I wonder if having those windows, would trigger the light to come on.

I applaud this guy for doing it himself. However, as a garage door professional I can point out that all of the issues he pointed out, could've been fixed at a fraction of the cost if he had consulted a technician. Again, I appreciate anyone of attempts repairs themselves but the issues could've been remedied for much less.
Installer should've tilted the flag bracket a little because I can hear when the door is at the end of the up position you can hear the cable overlapping onto itself because the drum it too far in should be angle out. Depending on how often you use the door you will be replacing cables in the near future

I would have went with the side mount garage door opener to keep the top clear. Looks much cleaner (LiftMaster 8500).
That's exactly what I'm considering right now. It seems it might help with additional head room clearance as well.

Yes it was! My old door was a tank and for how long it lasted from past home owners, it did it’s job. I think investing on a nice garage door will definitely raise your home value as well . 🙏🏽👍🏽😊

It didn't look like the old door was bad, just needed the hinges between 2 panels replaced and cables replaced.

Once I saw the inside of the door and that bar that goes across the top. I immediately noticed there's no torsion springs that aid in the lifting of the door so it doesn't seem that heavy..
The old door had a proprietary spring system from Wayne Dalton called the torque master. The torsion spring was contained within that “bar” across the header.

Was this a Costco installer? I really don't like how he laid the doors down on top of each other without damage protection. Unless we just couldn't see it.
Hi! They had a piece of foam between each layer. I would have been really upset if he just stacked them without cushions 😅. The installer is from Door Pro America, manufacturer of door is AMARR.
Dude built your door on the floor your door is insulated or was insulated it was a Wayne Dalton foam core and it was not a chain drive it was a screwdrive loudest of the openers

Now I'm not feeling bad to spend $3500 on mine in Silicon Valley. I had top of the line smart Chamberlain opener with My-Q, backup battery and built in camera. I don't have windows on the side but I don't think these worth over $1500 extra.

Is there any kind of accidental damage warranty? Such as a basketball dent or the like?
Hi! As far as I know the manufacturer said they only cover installation failures, or mechanical future failures. But as for accidental outside source damage I don’t think that’s covered. I would suggest to go to Costco and ask if they offer any additional warranties just to make sure 🙏🏽😊👍🏽

Why the heck was that old Wayne Dalton door installed with a low Headroom track???
I'd love to get a garage door like that but my garage floor is not straight and have a big gap on one of the sides when the door is closed (due to the floor not being leveled). Any idea how to fix that? After that is fixed, I'm planning to get a door like yours! The door looks really nice!

No need for that since the door is already insulated internally
im assuming the is costcos amarr garage doors, when they come install it, do they change the silver metal pipes too? that the garage door sits on going up and down?

A new garage door comes as a matched system. New door, rails, spring, etc. A door bundle will not include new perimeter weather seals but installers will usually add them into package as part of the installation.

I couldn’t see well enough to determine wether it was a 9100 or 9605. Either way it was insulated. My question was why the low-overhead track. Obviously it wasn’t replaced with the same.

The original garage door doesn't have torsion springs?
Hi! The old door has a double spring one on the left and one on the right. It’s the original Wayne Dalton Torquemaster one. 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
The original door does have torsion springs. They are held within the confine of that tube - which they call a Wayne Dalton Torquemaster. Those springs are small and generally live a short life in terms of torsion springs.
First all Garage doors need to be balanced so they are easy to lift. Something i did on my own by adjusting the spring tension with proper tools. Second expecting your any door opener to lift a heavy door will certainly wear out the bushings and sprocket in a very short time. You could have saved yourself a lot heavy lifting to move your car around with a 5m spring adjustment. Look into how easy it is to fix things before struggling with your home. Im super surprised that you can work on a Car Engine, and not a Garage door. We can not see how quieter it is now than before. Title your next video, Watch as I pay someone to fix my problem. Nothing wrong with that.

While wayne dalton doors are trash, it isnt 40 years old. And at most, that door is 130 pounds.

2:14 the car was in the garage at 2:29 the car was not there and the guy was taking the panels out. what happened to the car?
The old door had a broken spring or some other issues where the right cable was off. Opening the door would have been heavy and tricky. I would have dismantled the old door then moved the car before installing the new door.
I actually prefer the older Garage door designs then I do the newer one. I like the classic look better.
I started installing garage doors for a living anf YT in all its wisdom thinks I want to watch DIYers take all day or several days in some cases to do a two hour job. He did a good job, but, I'm not interested YT!
Not that quiet
That is an insulated door, not a good design and that is a screw drive operator. That door is junk though his torsion spring is probably broken, torque master system eas engineered garbage. All the operator needs is a small tube of Lubriplate (lithium grease) squeezed down the threaded screw drive. I hate when "you tube experts" tell us the wrong info.

BIG MISTAKE!!! You should not get a new garage door with windows in it. That's how break ins occur.

The old motor was not a chain drive. Screw drive.
