Leak is caused by a combination of the o-ring becoming flattened as well as the center part of the flange eroding away from the heat over time.

Did you loose much coolant when you discovered the leak? My son has the same car. And a lot of coolant is disappearing. But no coolant on the ground.

Do you need to flush the entire coolant before changing? Or is it possible to change it on the fly?

Did it come with the o ring?....and I'm pretty sure the sensor that goes on the flange is the 2 prongs not 4

Nah, 4 prong, the 2 prong is the fan switch near the drain tap.

Mine is leaking right where the temperature sensor is located. Thought it was an oil leak til I looked back there with a torch 🙄

Does the sensor come with the coolant flange when you buy it and is this the same one as on the VW Passat b6 1.9 tdi ?

Thanks for the walk through, but.. NEW coolant/oil system engine parts.. should never be put on the ground. Not ideal. Papertowels??
