  • The town of Orania in the Northern Cape has come out with a plan to minimise the effects of rolling blackouts. They have completed the first phase of their solar plant after residents donated funds towards the project.
They now sell power to the residents at the same price as Eskom, and will use the profits for the building of the second phase of the solar plant.
Let's catch up with SABC News reporter Ulrich Hendriks, who is in Orania for more on this story

It is not Orania who did this wonderful work, it is a certain type of people with a culture. People who are proud of themselves and who teaches their children what responsibility is. It was never a culture for this group of people to depend on other group of people, complain or think that somebody ows them something. I am sure that leaders of this community do account for every cent collected from anyone / donor. They don't steal from their community and then establish a commission of enquiry that cost them over half a billion rand to investigate and compile a report that will be tossed in a rubbish bin by their "president".

Orania should be a blueprint for all SA communities. Our government has shown us consistently that we cannot rely on them. Here is a community that is now showing us that if we work together we can survive and create a better SA independent of this corrupt government. Kudos to the people of Orania.

The core belief of the founders of Orania was to do your own physical labor. Everything revolves around that belief. Their flag has a little boy rolling up his sleeve to represent "freedom thru hard work". In the latter half of the 1900's when Afrikaners had political control of the country, South Africa would eventually rely more and more on cheap black labor for the lower skilled jobs. It even extended into the Afrikaner home. Afrikaner families would have black maids, black nannies and black gardeners. It wasn't uncommon to see black nannies walking around with little blond children. Keep in mind this is all happening with the black population exploding in numbers and blacks increasingly wanting political power. Afrikaners, in the country that they politically controlled and in their own family life, eventually became dependent on black labor That dependence on black labor in the old South Africa is what motivated the Orania founders to have the do your own work philosophy. Bringing in foreign labor to do the low skilled jobs will eventually lead to demographically losing control of your society. It was the demand to do your own labor that was one of the reasons why I think more Afrikaners haven't moved there. Especially when Orania was first founded. If someone is used to thinking of menial labor as something that other people do, then they will not be motivated to move to a place that demands they do it.
That's why in America they are being flooded by illegals from Mexico, Central and South America. Many of them are hard workers and that is why they are slowly taking over. Open borders just expedites the process. Men need to be men around the world. Don't hire someone to cut your lawn or do your weeds. Do it yourself. If your in poor health then find a white teenager to do it. Whites hire Mexicans all the time for cheap labor. It will be their downfall along with not having kids. Hispanic families like Black Families have kids whether they are poor or average. They reproduce and this slowly changes the demographics. A lot of America's problems are from laziness and not having big enough families. Not mention the politicians and corporations have also sold America out.

Looking at the comment section and seeing that people of different cultures and different backgrounds are starting to understand the significance of having the mindset of a forward thinking community like Orania and how this way of thinking is the answer for all communities across South Africa to build and succeed and not be dependent on the state.
This brings a smile to my face and it is also upsetting to see a politician and so called leader like Panyaza Lusufi trying to stand in the way of a thriving community like Orania and trying to stand in the way of them motivating other communities and it is evident that the ruling party is affraid of the people waking up and realizing that they don't need the state to survive and thrive.

The Orania community has a common ideology in terms of how they view themselves in the broader spectrum of society. There are skills and resources within the community to manage projects of this nature and others.
The rest of us that live in diverse racial communities have different political, social, cultural affiliations and will therefore struggle to share a common ideology on our expectations of the government. As an Indian , if I make a constructive criticism on a public platform of government's failure to deliver on services ( which I pay for) , I will be castigated, tarred and feathered and even risk my life and that of my family threatened.
Democracy hasn't worked in SA . It is for that reason we yearn for the Apartheid days where the principle of self determination ( like that of Orania ) compelled us as a community to work hard to succeed ,...to survive.
I didn't need to sit on the same park bench, stand in the same queue, eat in the same restaurant or swim in the section of the beach reserved for whites.
We made the best of what we had, managed and preserved whatever we had and lived more meaningful lives.
If Democracy meant, capturing and looting the state , by plundering its resources, wrecking state owned enterprises , stealing and basically effing up every sphere of government at a National and provicial level) I would like to be a part of an Orania somewhere , that determines its own path in SA
May Orania progress. ( it will. ) They are clear about their political stance and make no apology for it, and I respect that.
In fact , a part of me is envious 😃

People laughed at Orania when they started. Now, many of the same people are starting to see the light. Sometimes one has to end up in darkness to see the light. Pun intended.
