It is an incredible motorcycle. After 1 year of riding it and after 10k km (I do have other motorcycles too), I can say is the best motorcycle I drove. In the city - no problem, on the highway - no problem, I even drove it on some gravel roads. I did put the windshield, GT handlebar for more comfort, the touring seat, TPMS and quickshifter. These made a great bike a perfect one. Ah, forgot about it - also the Zard exhaust. The Zard exhaust is awesome looking and it is not that loud as a Werkles, but the gurgles, pops&bangs and low rev roaring are incredible. I highly recommend it!
The crankshaft accelerating quicky will cause the bike to twist. Because the crankshaft is running longitudinally (lengthwise). Harley and Sportbikes and all other bikes, except the Goldwing and the BWM engines, have a crankshaft running perpendicular to the chassis, so when you rev them, the bike doesn't twist. Harley bikes have a weird thing, where the front wheel shakes violently when they idle, and I guess it's cool looking, since apparently it goes away when you're rolling.
OC: I've been saying it for a decade... it's a fantastic bike (mine being the 2300cc prior version of course), and I drove it for years in the cities and the highway, averaged about 15k a year on it. Even rode from Austin up to Dallas, rode all day with the boys up there, and back to Austin, in one day, about 800 miles in all, and it was incredible. The ONLY criticism I had on that bike was it needed a sixth gear. This new 3500cc version has that, and more. Can't wait to pick up my new Black version in NYC now :D
I got a rocket 3r last week, just wow is all I can say.... FUN to ride. Easy to ride. a very sudden bike. my other bike is the FLHSX. the rocket is about 200# less weight..... update. Sold the Harley, rocket is my daily rider.
Picked up my new Rocket GT last week and put 400 miles on it. The only fly in the ointment is that the list of devices that are compatible with the $900 bluetooth module is extremely limited. The only two Android phones are the S8 and S9, both of which have been discontinued by Samsung. My headset, the Sena SRL Neotec 11, is also not compatible. The dealer, Mosites in North Versailles, PA has refunded me both the price of the bluetooth component and the labor involved in installing it. Excellent Customer Service at Mosites. Triumph After Sales in Atlanta was very supportive and coordinated with the dealer. In addition, they are going to escalate the problem with Triumph UK. Be careful if you need the bluetooth! Otherwise, its the best bike that I have ever ridden!
I like the 3R because you can push weight through the mid pegs and can stand up over speed bumps etc, the big Showa suspension is really good, it has way more suspension travel than Sportster S and most cruisers, fully adjustable and preload
OC: That was pretty cool. I used to ride around in Atlanta when I was young and the roads weren't any better back then. Lol Good review on the Rocket 3 in city traffic. Stay safe out there.
Did you take it up in the twisties in North GA ? The bike does well there. My son just traded his 2020 Rocket III GT. He put over 16,000 miles on it and not a single problem. Great bike. I wished he would have kept it.
OC: My 600 pound RT handles Charlotte streets well. I was a little surprised it was "tame" in sport mode, but as you said, the Triumph engineers put together a really good package.
OC: It's a beautiful bike, but didn't expect the suspension to handle as good as it looked. Now if only Triumph could be convinced to bring back the Daytona.
You just convinced me, mate, that if i’d ever go back to mostly street riding, this ‘’big black whale’’ of motorcycle would be the perfect fit for my 6,2 - 230 massive body. Low gravity center and that very bulky design seems fantastic for big guys. But I don’t think this will ever happen because ain’t planning to ever quit Maxi ADV bikes. Too much dope!
Interesting thing to watch on tight right turns is you need to do with throttle rather than pull in clutch, it just makes it go wide but if you ease throttle in it tucks in 😎
OC: seriously thinking of getting this bike. This video is perfect for me, as I plan to commute … in Atlanta. Seems like the 3R is up to snuff - just need to keep in mind the heat index in traffic during summer months … and the immense number of crazy cagers / kamikaze factor. But the latter is not the bike’s fault. 😮
The quiet bike thing is totally true of electric cars too. One of my friends got clipped by a tesla (his fault) at low, city traffic speeds because he assumed there couldn't have been a vehicle around the corner because there was no noise whatsoever. Even on pikes peak, the VW electric car that set the record had an intermittent beeping sound just to let people know it was coming.
OC: Can’t wait to test ride one of these things at TX Motor Speedway in October. I’ve got a feeling like it’s going to make me want to sell my MT-07 lol
Now this is the kind of test I want to see. Any chance you can do this with the bmw r1250r? I just got one and it was a toss up between the rocket3 and the bmw
Once on the move you won’t feel the cylinders going side to side because the shaft is counter rotating to the crank, you don’t feel any sideways action whilst on the move, super smooth
a related question: why did Honda release a 1300cc VTX without dropping the weight of the bike to match the motor? An acquaintance of mine bought a VTX1300 after his starter bike (wrecked his Kawasaki 250 Ninja). We all laughed at him for trying to look like a tough guy but being slower than when he had his 250. Honda is weird when they make cruisers. I don't feel like they ever quite figured it out.
@@johnraconteur1723 honda does weird things NC750X, nm4, grom/monkey, ruckus, adv150, ctx700, rune, Valkyrie and people love it. I think honda knows how to make cruiser, case in point rebel 1100, vtx1800, fury, shadow phantom. But honda doesn't wanna be another harley. Shaft driven, Hydraulic clutch, dual braking systems, big v twin (biggest V twin 1800 at its time in 2002 until the kawasaki 2000cc came out and now we got other bigger ones of course. I digress, I think honda just like to make all these different bikes for everyone even if its kinda funky. One thing for sure is... they're bullet proof bikes. I got an 2021 nc750x dct, 06 vtx1800f3 and a honda grom SF clone. All fun bikes.
OC: Loud pipes don't save lives. You can tell that to my broken femur. New vehicles have so much sound dampening material in it that your loud pipe isn't going to do you any good. Being a better rider will save you. If you're THAT concerned about not being seen or heard on a motorcycle; don't ride. Wear Hi-Res retro-reflective gear, position yourself to be seen, ride ahead or behind traffic. Don't ride IN traffic.
Ok, we know your think its heavy, you mention it often enough. Its funny my Harley buddies always remark about how light and nimble it is. A heavy clutch? It’s easily used with one finger. Test it as a cruiser not a sport bike. Of course there is heat from the motor but no more than any other bike with a big motor. My Harley Ultra puts out a ton more heat. And no one in the history of the world put on louder pipes for safety reasons, lol. It sucks when naked bike riders test a cruiser. Yes we know its heavy compared to a naked, but its not at all heavy for a cruiser. Yes we know its heavy. I am being redundant because I got tired of hearing that in the review. Yes it’s heavier than a sport bike.
The pistons rotate?!! I think you'll find that's the crankshaft - the pistons go up and down. Heavy Clutch - really ?!! Hill Hold is enabled by pulling front brake lever in twice when stationery. (GT Owner, U.K.)
Just received my Rocket 3 GT in the UK. Your "city riding" is nothing compared to over here as all your roads are much wider. We can also lane split and filter in the UK. I can get into 6th gear in the city, drop the revs and save fuel. (btw, the Rocket does have Hill Hold and pulling away in 2nd gear in the city will be less "jerky"). Why are Americans so fixated about highway riding? It's boring!! Get up in the mountains and on some twisty roads !
Beautiful video footage, looks great. Like big bikes too, need something more substantial I feel for daily use. I have a Sprint GT, big sized bike too, makes for comfy riding

ye, I mean... I could tell from looking at that wheelbase, and knowing its weight, exactly what u discovered. I dont understand who would buy this, for what type riding?. its shite at everything. who was it built for?. Honest to God, I lov me some Triumphs. but Ill never 'get' this model figuratively Or literally.
Design and performance are good However, the useless large cruise button, the awkward location of the emergency light, the blinker button and the horn button are too small to be used. Moreover, the instrument cluster is also shared with the sub-model.
Triumph is making beautiful, amazing bikes. But there are a few major red flags for an expensive, high quality motorcycle. Having a 2.5L engine should not be matched up with a low geared transmission with short gear ratios. I'm still wondering what the cruising RPM's are at 70mph for the Rocket III? Triumph has geared the new Tiger 850 T-Plane 888cc engine to turn 4,400 rpms at an indicated 70mph, which makes no sense from an engineering standpoint? A modern car only turns about 2200 rpms at 70mph. The Rocket III engine would be better suited to a wide ratio transmission with an extremely tall overdrive ratio in 6th (just my opinion).
Let me guess, Triumph is going to destroy this engine too, by making it into a clunky T-PLANE crankshaft design, with heavy coarseness and vibration. Lol. This is one of their few triple engines that they haven't ruined yet by changing to an odd firing order.
