Great tips in this video! About two years ago, I adopted a Chihuahua with a collapsing trachea cough. I started giving him Cosequin, which is a supplement for building cartilage which is in the trachea. It is sold over-the-counter and has dosage instructions on the bottle. It took about a month or two to notice a difference in his coughing but after about a year he had stopped coughing altogether. I still give him Cosequin and he is still doing great, with no coughing.

A collapsed trachea means a dead dog. Once it collapses, they die. The trachea becomes flattened and they can no longer breathe. They live until their trachea collapses.

My Malchi has this, so does her sister. They have been doing the honking cough since they were pups. They are 5 years old now. Sometimes my dog gets honking so much she gasps for air. Excitement or not chewing treats enough seems to trigger an episode. Thank you for this video. I am grateful.

You know I have a 7 year old Jack Russell that I’ve tried Throat gold and several herbal mixes. Try Honey! It’s worked the best so far on my dog. Just a teaspoon or so twice a day in their food bowl. You’ll be surprised ❤️

Thank you 🙏 i am not exactly sure if my dog has this because his issue is at night. He starts hacking and throwing up but not during the day. He does make a choking noise when walking him. Did not think about the air purifier. I just got the Throat Gold yesterday so testing it now. I have noticed a big difference in weather extreme. Right now it is terrible with it being hot. We reserve walks for night or early morning and notice and improvement. I’m afraid to play because her breathing. I definitely have hope in the air purifier over the humidifier. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the video pretty woman. One of my yorkies was coughing so I took him to the vet. They gave me medicine for CHF. But I really do believe it is his trachea. His cough sounds just like yorkies when they are having problems with the trachea. I’m going to give the throat gold a try.
The majority of small dogs that are rescued or especially from a breeder get this from over breeding. The natural supplements help but they are not a cure.
So I know I’m not putting any dogs through surgery but it’ll make them more comfortable.

@@sharaddha2023 I'm glad you replied. My pup didn't make it so if my story can help you that'd be a blessing. The vet misdiagnosed my dog. They said she had kennel cough and or collapsing trachea. I had her on that medicine for 60 days with no recovery. Turns out she had bronchitis which developed into pneumonia. I'm sure 60 days of the wrong medicine helped it thrive. It was too late for her though and we eventually had to put her down. Hardest thing to do in my life so far. Had she since I was 10 and I'm 26 now so.

thank you pixie!! pretty sure my dog shane(pug) has collapsed trachea. I will buy the throat gold and try it.I already was running a humidifier (that helps). Something to keep in mind for other folks that have their dog on meds! know what is med does (Real good) ask if you don't know```as I found that in my opinion he was being over medicated which put the dog in a very different manner``basically not acting like a normal dog!! This is what I do for my Yorkie now. More affordable and works wonder. I have a 15 year old Yorkie who has this condition. I give him Kennel Cough by Alfa Pet comes w/instructions .I also give him Manuka Honey 3 times a day. I put about 1/4 of the honey on the tip of a of a plastic teaspoon and let him lick it a little at a time. When he gets up, 1/2 hour after his last meal and just before bedtime. He was coughing at least 10 times during day and a few times at night. Now it's more like 2-3 times a day and maybe once at night. Thank God!!!

Thank you.I've been using lots of different herbal treatments (from dandelion to N.A.C. & many herbs in between) Thought we were doing better then, seems he got worse. He's 14. That s came on suddenly. He's so active though. He LIVES ⬅(THAT was a typo but ima leave it there, because its more realistic!) He's always been a healthy dog on a healthy diet. I have to say...I messed up on the Lung Gold dosage and my dog was actually doing much much better... But we noticed the mistake and now with the appropriate dosage he's coughing again.
Dosage is always a problem but with time you’ll adjust to the right dose. It’s natural so it’s not like you can give them too much.

A little tumeric root added to food could be helpful as an antiflamitory .. little warm honey & I even like a little warm butter as a coating/soothing method from time to time
I’m wondering if I already have meds from the doctor in my past the point of where those drops would help. I also feel terrible. I always wondered a little bit if my hair/scent products would upset the dogs that much and now I feel super guilty. I always tried to spread them away from them, but they typically follow me wherever😢

What signs was you dog displaying that made you realize something was wrong?
He began hacking when he was excited and then developed the dreaded “goose honk” cough. His cough has subsided considerably and we often go days with no cough at all.

I’m curious that you didn’t mention supplements. I’ve had two dogs with trachea collapse and both times I was instructed to use cartilage supplements.

They have seemed to help the one that started taking them at a young age. The other one we got at 11 and they didn’t seem to help a whole lot but we still used them.
@Kasandra Mckenna thank you for letting me know. At times, when my Yorkie seems to have some food left over in his trachea(I puree everything for him) I simply put some olive oil in a syringe. I squirt it into his throat and then massage his throat. Seems to help him. At night, I give them both a little coconut yogurt with raw honey( honey is a natural antibiotic). They love it...lol. FYI, I have a havanese too.
Thanks I have a five month old puppy and he either has laryngeal paralysis or tracheal collapse, if it is the latter I'm going to buy him cartilage supplements too. I hope his little body can heal a bit. Feel so bad for him.

Hi dear dog lover from Germany. How about nutrients like MSM, Curcumin and oyster shells from NZ? My icelandic sheepdog age 12 has this coughing problem only in summer and tracheal collapse was diagnosed endoscopic. Is your dog still o. k.?
He is :) It’s been almost a year since this video was uploaded and I still follow all the recommendations in this video every day. Additional supplements could certainly help, especially if your dog’s condition is more advanced. My best advice would be to try something for 2 weeks...did it help...did it make it worse....or stay the same? Wishing your pup happiness and health ❤️

Thank you for the advice it is good however my poor puppy is only five months and he loves to run and play so I am running with him now instead of other dogs (they caused it by biting his neck). I'm waiting for the pure throat gold to arrive. X

Michelle LeBrun Our vet suggested that we avoid surgery for Teddy not because of his trachea but because he also has a heart murmur. Dr. Karen Becker from Mercola health has an awesome webinar series on caring for aging animals an also end of life care. It’s called “Winding Down” it’s available here on TH-cam....watch it. She talks about the risk vs reward in your type of situation...I think you’ll find it very helpful. I really feel for you! Keep us updated on your decision 🙏
I would recommend meeting with a vet who specializes in homeopathic and alternative remedies. It would be worth discussing with the other vets about your options because it is worth exploring different options as having the tube down their throat can exasperate their condition. However, it may be necessary if there's no other options in removing the tumour. I'm assuming they've done a biopsy already and determined it to be problematic.
We were advised against surgery due to our dogs age. She’s 15 and also has a heart murmur. At this point we’re just trying to keep her happy and comfortable. Best of luck! I know how scary it can be since I’m currently still dealing with this issue and our pup recently gave us quite the scare.

Coughs can worsen when dogs have heart disease. It can be fluid building up, and they need to go in to the vet to get reassessed and possibly get a dosage change on their heart medication, and a diuretic(lasix/furosemide) to help keep the fluid from building up as much. I give it every day. 6 drops am and 6 drops pm - that is the dose for Teddy who is 13 lbs. I would double check the dose for you dog with pet wellbeing

My dog just got this, took him to the vet and got medication but he hasnt been eating so its hard to give him the medication he doesn’t want to take it. Any advice ?
I would suggest blending their food into a purée and mixing the meds in a small amount and place directly on their tongue

Is it supposed to be painful for dogs when we pick them up? My dog cries when I pick her up. I took her to the vet and they said that she has tracheal collapse but they never said that it was gonna be painful, so idk if they're lying to me or not cause I couldn't go in when they were seeing her because of covid19
I don’t think it should be painful when you pick her up- as long as you’re not pressing on her trachea. Not sure why they would lie but you definitely need to follow up about this crying/pain. Reach out to the vet via phone or email with follow up questions and let them know about this problem ASAP.
@@user-gf7ud3qp7h we took her back last week and apparently she has arthritis, but the week before that we took her for xray and blood work, so idk why they didn't say anything back then 😐 but they prescribed her medicine and she's feeling MUCH better :)
Also, don't pick up a dog from the underarms like a child. That can hurt spine. Support the dog in a fairly level position to pick up, especially with Dachshunds.

My dog has been diagnosed with a collapsed trachea, I recently purchased the throat gold drops. He has been taking them for about a week now and I still haven't seen any improvement. How long did it take for Teddy to show improvement with the throat gold drops?
Lily Lopez it took me about a week to notice improvement. Are you giving the correct dosage? Teddy is 13lb so I’m giving him 6 drops in the morning and 6 drops at night. Check with your vet on this first to get the OK and dosage recommendations but you can actually give your dog Robitussin for a few days to get the cough under control and then switch to the Throat Gold to maintain going forward. Keep in touch and let me know if that helps!!
@@pixiesplantationThanks for replying. I called pet wellbeing to get the correct dosage. For my understanding you are not supposed to give these drops to your dog for a long period of time. It can cause other problems with your dog. So I decided to stop the drops after a week. I didn't notice a difference 😔

@Jordan Shepherd My little guy is a 9 yr old Maltese. After taking him for xrays it was determined that he didn't have a collapsed trachea. Apparantly Something caused inflammation in his trachea that made him cough for 17 days non stop. I still don't know what could have irritated his trachea, but the first vet I saw convinced me it was a collapsed trachea without xrays. I'm glad my little guy is back to normal.
Lily Lopez anti inflammatory CBD oil really works good for that it takes a few weeks but my Old chihuahua has had an incredible improvement it is worth a try for reals it worked for my Bandit
My Chihuahuas was diagnosed 13 years ago. The vet knew it wasn't kennel cough because of the honk, different. Pet company's prey on people like us,, the absolute truth, I've spent hundreds of dollars on honey throat trachea support, Hound honey. Most recently, the vet told me that Robitussin DM could help, wouldn't that be contrary to what she said about moisture? Anyway, point being, none of that crap really works. $$$$$$
If your dog is young, and you can afford it, get the surgery! It wasn't available in my area until recently. $1,000 for the surgery will save you hundreds and hundreds on garbage in the future. Also may I mention that houseplants are one of the best air cleaners?

Screw the natural remedies. Dogs with collapsing trachea syndrome WILL eventually die from it. The only real hope is trachea replacement surgery. Even if you have to take out a loan or borrow money, the surgery is the only hope. Don't take chances with your baby.

That's only been doing but I'm going to add that throat gold and get her a new harness. The first symptom happened a year ago and she's doing okay she's 12 years old. Fingers crossed. 🙏🏻💕
