    I’m so beside myself grieving my little toy poodle Prince Luie…I lost him 2 weeks ago on collapse trachea….if I’ve only would had known and not just listen to my vet, I’m positive my little Prince would be still alive; I blame myself for not taking actions for myself rather trusting a vet.

    My dog started getting symptoms of chf, and tracheal collapse April 4th. She initially fainted, and I cried and felt so helpless. I took her to the vet , and she prescribed lasix, and antibiotics for some decay in gums. Since she is on meds she is doing way way better has not had any major episodes or fainting. I keep taking her out on walks every other hour. I wanted to ask your opinion. How do I know if she is suffering or not. Occasionally she will lay down, and seem lethargic . She still goes on walks happily, once in a while she will be tired so I make the walks shorter. She's 16 year old chihuahua named Kitana. I think we love them like babies because they are also small, and we took good care of them to reach this age, and gave them their life purpose. I found your video initially about your one year update using throat gold, and then I saw this second video, and I got teary eyes for Teddy. I had a 18 year old long hair chihuahua pass over the rainbow in 2022, and I feel she is with me still. Some times it feels so real I even call out her name, and I can vision her playing in heaven. We never have closure for a pet we loved as a child, and in my opinion we all meet again some day.🥹🌹

      Thank you for your thoughtful comment and kind words. In my humble opinion as long as your dog is eating, drinking, peeing/pooing without pain or difficulty that’s a very good indicator that it’s not time yet. It’s ok for them to sleep more and not be able to walk as far or play like they used to. I believe it’s natural to slow down…and as dogs they understand that that and don’t mind the extra naps. As long as you’re providing them a soft bed to lay on and giving pain medication (if needed) they’re comfortable enough to keep going. If your dog starts refusing meals, becomes incontinent or you’re. It able to manage pain (example: she’s whining constantly or can’t no longer get comfortable enough to sleep) it’s time. Sending you love and strength 💚

    Thank you so much for this! Is it possible to push in anything the "wrong way"? Does the technique help with avoiding the bladder getting stuck as well or is there another trick to avoid that?

    • @pixiesplantation
      @pixiesplantation 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not necessarily a “wrong way” just avoid pushing in too deep…keep your fingers flush with the natural boundaries of the skin and you’ll be fine. Yes, this will help prevent the bladder from getting stuck “ bladder entrapment” however, to be effective it’s up to you to make sure that the bladder does not get too full to get trapped. As the years go by, you may notice that the hole itself gets larger and when it does it can accommodate a full bladder.

    My pekingese mix elderly rescue dog developed this condition shortly after i got him four years ago His vet said he wouldnt do surgery because stitches wouldn't hold long enough for him to heal because his straining to go would tear them out. So I perform the method you've described. Unfortunately he wont go if im standing there holding him & as soon as I let go the hernia protrudes again. Therefore it has gotten bigger & I just dont know how much more he can take. I didnt know to try feeding him pumpkin (he wont eat beans) and fish oil. I'll get started on both right away. Thank you for the suggestions! Wish us good luck 😊

    My Malchi has this, so does her sister. They have been doing the honking cough since they were pups. They are 5 years old now. Sometimes my dog gets honking so much she gasps for air. Excitement or not chewing treats enough seems to trigger an episode. Thank you for this video. I am grateful.

    They give us so much unconditional love. My twenty two year old granddaughter often says joyfully we don't deserve them in response to our two dogs being lovey or just silly. She's right. I know when I'm feeling down or not well, both dogs are coming over to check on me and they try to cheer me up or comfort me -I know they know because they are looking at me with concerned faces and being even more than usual sweet to me. How could I ever not be there for them?

    Great tips in this video! About two years ago, I adopted a Chihuahua with a collapsing trachea cough. I started giving him Cosequin, which is a supplement for building cartilage which is in the trachea. It is sold over-the-counter and has dosage instructions on the bottle. It took about a month or two to notice a difference in his coughing but after about a year he had stopped coughing altogether. I still give him Cosequin and he is still doing great, with no coughing.

    This is what I do for my Yorkie now. More affordable and works wonder. I have a 15 year old Yorkie who has this condition. I give him Kennel Cough by Alfa Pet comes w/instructions .I also give him Manuka Honey 3 times a day. I put about 1/4 of the honey on the tip of a of a plastic teaspoon and let him lick it a little at a time. When he gets up, 1/2 hour after his last meal and just before bedtime. He was coughing at least 10 times during day and a few times at night. Now it's more like 2-3 times a day and maybe once at night. Thank God!!!

    This was a very helpful video. My dog was diagnosed with this ailment last year (2022). Let's start by saying that all Vets are NOT alike. Professionally, Ethically, or their Capability. They come in all sizes and shapes on the B. Sh...t Scale. After visiting several vets including one that advised surgery but cautioned that "it doesn't work and six months from now the problem will resume" (the only vet that was straight up with me and said "I do not do this procedure.") we nevertheless opted for surgery with a vet group that specializes in this. The doctors were young, proactive, confident in their abilities and gung-ho attitude. If enthusiasm could have cured my dog, these guys had it. The results were an unmitigated disappointment and my dog still struggles to poop 7 mos later. ( I would've used the word disaster, but my dog is still alive.) The surgery was $,6000, and in 12 months, $10,000 and counting. Post Op was a joke, and didn't prescribe a laxative (Lactulose) until 2 o r 3 weeks after surgery when my dog was still unable to poop. (You would think with all this education and training that this prescription would have been part of the post-op protocol. It was a Saturday morning vet INTERN that prescribed it.) Lactulose does not soften stools as is contended to help facilitate emptying the colon. It just doesnt. If your dog needs surgery in this matter, DO NOT USE BLUE PEARL VET HOSPITAL. They claim 80 -90 % success rate with a disclaimer that "we can't guarantee results," they essentially give you a false sense of hope. What is hilarious is they are suggesting my dog needs ANOTHER surgery to correct his problem, essentially admitting their first attempt was a failure. Caveat Emptor: STAY AWAY FROM BLUE PEARL PET HOSPITAL. Nationwide Scam Artists.
