I've only ever used the Gen 2 in manual mode and that's probably why I like it!
How do you compensate for it in manual mode? Are you undershooting the value by -1 using the app meter when setting the shot up or are you going by what it says is correct exposure? Unless of course compensating for a very oddly lit scene I mean which I guess you'd be using an external meter.
Edit: I rewatched the vid and just noticed that it looks like the app is about spot on for the most part.
Thanks for sharing another great video. Love this channel. It will be interesting to see if Instax releases a similar control app for their camera line.
One can only hope!
Seriously makes me think that it might be the lens on the Gen 2 and Gen 1. Those photos look more like a loss of contrast and lots of glow more so than overexposure
I will agree of the issues as i have one myself, but ill be honest, i kinda have a thing for this style of photography. If i can expose it just right, then the camera isn’t a problem for me. Besides i only ever used manual mode on my digital camera and non-instant film cameras, so relying on manual is something i can live with
This manual mode is why I bought the camera; control over exposure is everything with film and I don't trust the simple metering systems cameras like these use. That said, I wish the app applied the crop factor (or had a setting to do this) to the f/stops because trying to interpret relative depth of field if you're used to 35mm is not easy.
Should I keep the shutter speed at 1/125?
@@KywaunJackson Generally speaking it is a good idea to set your aperture as wide as you can manage (lets in lots of light) so you shutter speed can be as fast as possible. 1/125 is good for reducing motion shake but I would say up to 1/60th is probably totally safe handheld. If you have very steady hands you may be able to get to 1/30th.
What I’m learning over this video about the manual mode is that you place it a little bit under 0 and they came great! I thought should be exactly at 0. Just a quick question, would you recommend to use the flash during manual mode ?
Hey have you gained any more knowledge or experience on this since it’s been 9 months lol, I’m kinda struggling with understanding it rn
I’ve had the Now Plus gen 1 for a year now and mine has been getting amazing results by dropping exposure to a -1
I recently got the Polaroid go after getting the bug to makes some memories with instant photography. Your videos have been super helpful man thanks for making them. I want to buy another modern Polaroid and have been struggling on what to get. After this video I think I’m going to get the now gen two and avoid getting the plus until they improve it. Thanks again buddy
Anytime! Can’t go wrong with the NOW!
@@JustAnotherChris That good news haha! I also like right now found a OneStep 2 with the view finder in black for $50
Personally my onestep2 is my go to itype camera. Its the best
Man, I wish I watched this and the other video before I blew my cash on the bundle they have. If they just fixed the cam's odd exposure issue then it'd be about dang perfect for anyone to pick up. But as it sits, it's a bit more of a tango to use. Though tbh, I guess I can live with it now that I'm learning how to work around it since the extra modes give it a one up vs the SX-70 or 600 cams in some ways.
I have to say I hate the manual mode on these cameras. They started it with the infamous Impossible I-1 and that was the reason I didn't buy the camera when it came out. I want a manual mode with real haptic controls on the camera body. I don't want to have to fiddle with another device like my phone while trying to make some good photos.

Speaking of "Sun" ...
I think I will stick with my Polaroid Sun600 SE "50th Anniversary Edition" camera from 1987.
Doesn't require a phone to use it, and the 600 film is STILL made (only in the Netherlands, but still made)!
It's not bad now plus gen 1 and 2 but it's pain in a** when you want to take quick pics and always need to use manual mode
Love your vids!
Thank you!
Dance monkey, dance! 😂😂😂 That cracked me up!
That’s what I’m here for
So as a Christmas gift for someone who is into photography which one would you recommend?
The lens on the Gen2 looks much softer, and there’s some blooming or haze to the highlights, not sure if that’s the film emulsion or the plastic lens.
How can I adjust the settings like you did to -1? I’m trying but it’s not letting me
Sigh
I used the Polaroid Now for 2 days and then got my own Now+ and all I see is complaints about it
Yeah it’s not the best
@@JustAnotherChris damn
I enjoyed it (regular Now camera) when I used it this past weekend at the beach
I’m still waiting on mine to deliver lol
@@XVNRX the NOW is fine the NOW+ has issues with over exposure
@@JustAnotherChris fmllllll lmao that doesn’t even make sense man
@@JustAnotherChris update i just picked up a NOW even tho I have a Now+ plus bundle on the way
Guess I’ll mix and match the accessories (if you can)
I really want to get into manual mode stuff with the Polaroid app, maybe with the onestep+ when I get it, I just dont know a SINGLE thing about f-stops, aperture, or any of that stuff! 😕 I hope it's not too hard to learn or get the swing of. Or does the app help you at all?
The higher the number/ f stop the more everything will be in focus. But you will need more good light. Lower the number the harder to keep everything in focus but you have more light available for the camera
I might need to try find an F/stop/aperture for dummies video
I have the Polaroid lab and have the same issue of the pictures being too dark any help on fixing this issue? I was thinking of buying this one but with all the comments I’ll hold off on it
I think I'm going to try and use my one+ gen2 to try and get some star trails and see how that turns out
Chris try a gray card to meter the light. Old school method.
That’s for color balance and doesn’t apply to polaroid
nope, a grey card is also used to determine exposure. could be a good idea to test the camera's meter reading against a spot meter's reading of a grey card, just to see what it's doing and if it does indeed tend to reproduce middle grey as being above or below the actual value. then you could always keep the camera set to compensate for that its own inaccurate internal metering
Dance monkey 🙊 dance 🕺🏿 , I hope I bump into you one day . Appreciate the new video
Wondering if the settings on the camera stay to what you have it set to or does it go back to default when you use it again?
As long as the Bluetooth is on it will save the settings.
were you using the button on the camera? ive been wondering if the settings i put in the app will still work if i use the button
Yes the settings are sent and stored on the camera. Once you set it you can put your phone away even turn off the camera and as long as the Bluetooth is on it will save the settings
@@JustAnotherChristhanks man i was about to comment again saying i rewatched and saw you take the first pic on the cam clear as day, stoned ig 😅
There is a plus version of Polaroid Plus???
Hi, Chris! Could u advice me the best polaroid model (from the new models) with good enough viewfinder, tripod mount and with wifi (or Bluetooth) connectivity with application on the phone, thanks for your videos!
Polaroid OneStep+
@@JustAnotherChris thank u, sir!
Have you ever tried any of the kodak intant cameras?
Kodak doesn’t make film cameras. Not since the 80s
Still looks like the one step 2 is a better option
Indeed it is
Really don't want to have to use my phone to get a decent photo to be honest, just give us a decent camera from the get go
I think the pictures would even be better if you used a tripod.
How would’ve that helped?
@@JustAnotherChris Well, you were holding the camera to get the readings. That's a little shaky and not as accurate. If it was on a tripod pointing to the exact location you wanted to take the photo, it would have gotten the readings more accurate for the correct settings. Just a thought.
You might be correct if it was in a lower light situation this was the brightest part of the day. Tripod would’ve had little to no effect here.
@@JustAnotherChris The lighting does make a difference. You're right.
Your videos are great! XD really enjoy, but buy a mic! For the windy days (:
Any lens cap you recommend?
It comes with one
Are you able to take inside photos?
Yes you can
How do you scan your Polaroids
How to scan your instant photos with the Epson-ES-60W

But why is everything so green???
People discussing toy camera and 3 settings like it is a rocket science.
Yet you clicked on the video
@@JustAnotherChris yes unfortunately youtube disabled visibility of dislikes
Let me guess you only use Hasselblad or Leica cameras
@@JustAnotherChris I olny shoot x rays 😂
Maybe cause of the quality of len, one step was better.
I think instax and polaroid have been a bit meh this year..No new cameras to be wowed over and even less new film.
I think the Mini 12 came out this year, though of course it's not a "huge" upgrade over previous models. It's my first mini instax though and I do love it, the new twist to turn on feels great and the close-up parallax-correction of the new close-up lens is a nice touch
@@michael_177
Yee mini 12 is a great camera, especially if it's your first Instax.
But as you say, it's not a huge upgrade. Something I was hoping for. If anything instax did the phone uppdate approach tactic.
@@michael_177 the parallax adjustment is a great feature, the Mini 90 and its rebadged version the Leica Sofort have had it for years
Mint was near to announce another fake rollei instax cameras similar to instant flex tl 70 but that use instax square film;make good pictures whit no flares and inconsistent exposure and other defects of instax mini fake rollei camera of 2016;and non sl still continue to make cameras whit woods and total manual for mini and square whit possibility to use old Nikon lens
@@ilmago5291 I have used it! The Mint Instantkon TL70 Plus is amazing!
