@@Alec-x5l You realize not all athletes are like Lebron James and just in it for $$
$. Some athletes believe in loyalty and working through adversity to achieve their goals. Many players in the NHL have taken pay cuts to keep or get players on their team they want to play with or have taken cuts to stay on their current team. Something I doubt you’ll see as often if ever in the NBA, MLB or I doubt even in the NFL.

Not just McDavid the entire team has woken up. Bouchard is on a 13 game point streak Leon is looking pissy again which is good. The PK and PP numbers have improved big there teams back checking is great there overall defence is good now like someone flicked a switch. I don’t know how long this win streak will last but I’m kinda hoping they can make it 10 the record for the team is 9 in a row. Such a rollercoaster of a team.

The addition of one of the most offensive defence men ever to play the game to the coaching staff (Coffey) has done wonders to the back end. The defence are no longer standing on their own goal line trying to make hail mary two line passes on breakouts. They are now moving their feet and driving plays out of their own end utilizing team speed before teams can set up and defend. Woodcroft had them slowing down the play and setting up and Knob has them attacking.

As a Winnipeger that witnessed the likes of Hawerchuk vs Gretzky during the regular season and the playoffs (don't even ask about that! lol!) and the Oiler Dynasty Years and in '90 when we had the bastards down 3-1 in the first round, and a NO GRETZKY Oilers came back with 3 straight and then right to the CUP!
Edmonton is a team that isn't used to having crummy teams (sure they had some gutter years, but so has every team) I will _Never_ trust the Oilers to do the right thing and lose every game! They say _Lightning never strikes the same place twice_ ...Edmonton would totally call bullsh*t on that one! \m/

I hate to say it as a cunucks fan, its great to see McJesus doing his thing and the reast of the oilers doing well
A playoff matchup would be awesome between the two teams!

As a Flyers fan I don’t get to see McDavid that much but I know that the best players in any sport will find a way to get back to their level at some point. 1 of my favorite quotes in baseball is, It’s fun watching a 300 hitter get to 300! Meaning no matter what happens in the start of the season by the end that player will most likely be hitting 300. Same goes for every other sport.

My man, it’s the Oilers defending that’s the difference and that has helped their goaltending. Offensively they had good metrics in the beginning of the season they just didn’t have any good “luck”….Knoblauch and Coffey have the team playing elite level defence to match their elite level offense

Crazy how oilers succes is quite directly linked to Mcdavid's points production

NHL tweeted a pic of the league scoring leaders a few weeks back right after McDavid put up 10 or whatever points in 3 games. They asked "Who will get to 50 points first?" The over whelming consensus pick in the comments was #97. He was double digit points behind the leaders then

As far as offense goes, are these all things the Oilers were trying to do before this winning stretch, and were just not succeeding? Or are these changes to the offensive strategy that has helped them on top of their poor scoring luck turning for the better?

Ima keep commenting on hockey channels til someone realizes- the islanders have a point in 13 of their last 14 games. They are the hottest team in the nhl! They could win 10 cups in a row and people would still talk about the oilers and leafs every other day

2+2+1 play is absolutely correct earlier in the year they weren’t going into the dirty areas they seem to be doing that now the play along the boards which has really improved is probably one of the main reasons this team is being successful.

McDavid slumps: Whole team slumps and are basement team.
McDavid plays good: Rest of team starts playing good and are a top team in the NHL.. All Davo was doing was proving why he should win the hart this season

    • @johanstinson
      @johanstinson ปีที่แล้ว

To be real, though, he was still over a PPG in his "slump". Him playing better is huge but so is the bottom 6 scoring and the PK being almost 100"

I remember seeing all of the 2019 Blues comparisons in November and not taking them seriously because of how different their situation was to this.
Now, at least in terms of progression, they seem similar.

The box +1 is great when you're playing a possession type team, but the Oilers are leaving 1-2 players open from the point consistently, every game. They've fine tuned the messy d-zone coverage that got them into the hole they're in, but they aren't adjusting to teams that player perimeter. Once that gets exposed, it's trouble. They will need a plan for when this happens (likely mid-Jan).
