All these Uuno movies were hated by critics but loved by people
I love the Spede sketch where he thanks the Finnish Film Academy for not giving him any money because that forced him and his friends to learn how to make good movies.

Finns are very formal and introvert. Bit like germans they follow orders and laws to the bit. Uuno Turhapuro is a weird exception to the rule, since everyone thinks he is something to look up to, even tho he is quite anti-finn. And it's not just most that like Uuno. Really everyone likes this character

If there was a war, Major Uuno Turhapuro would still be able to lead us to victory despite his incompetence, I'm sure.
His incredible luck alone would benefit us, surely.
As far as I remember, Uuno was playing letter chess with the secretary of the Minister of Defence, so the moves were sent by letter to the other player (in the days before the Internet and mobile phones).
Because of this Uuno got letters that came in the envelope of the Minister of Defence and all the generals in the army started flattering him as they thought they would benefit from being on close relations with Uuno who they thought was in an important position in the Ministry of Defence.
Yes, Uuno's father-in-law was the Minister of Defense of Finland and ordered Uuno to complete his military service, when Uuno had once left his army service unfinished. When Uuno started receiving letters from the Ministry of Defence, I don't remember now whether Uuno was playing letter chess with the minister's secretary or why those letters came, but in any case these letters caused the officers of the troops department to wonder and they found out about Uuno's real identity. When it appeared that Uuno's stepfather is the Minister of Defense, Uuno started getting promotions at a fast pace, because everyone believed that Uuno was an observer sent by the Ministry of Defense, etc.
Yeah the Defence Minister in this movie(he got fired from that position after the movie) is Mining Councillor Tuura, Uuno's wife's Elisabeth's father. He hates Uuno to put it mildly, always calling him names like "heap of rubbish" and "walking compost pile". Theres a longer tv version of this movie that is very rare nowadays to be seen, in that version with extra scenes Tuura actually makes a bet that if Uuno for any reason get's promoted to Major, as Uuno has been boasting before being send back to the Army(Tuura was behind that too, cause Uuno had left after a single day in the past, he now had to do the rest, the service is mandatory for any native male here in Finland unless you have some alleviating causes like medical or philosophical ones), he will eat his own tie. In the tv version just after this scene, Uuno says to the people entering the room "hey would you fetch some ketchup for the Defence Minister here, cause he is just about to start eating his own tie." :)
The General in this scene is played by Helge Herala, a famous actor(who has sadly passed on) in Finland, who later in the movie series also plays as Uuno's former Teacher from his home village.
These are my favourite films. Uuno epsanjassa is classic too!
I'm starting to think that all uuno movies are a satirical take on how nepotism works in finnish society.
Tupla-Uuno (Double Uuno) from 1988 is a good one 🌞
"Uuno Turhapuro, herra Helsingin herra". I think that's a good one, too. But this army-movie is the best.
I recommend the scene "konekirjoittaja"(typist), from this movie, it is a classic one.

Uuno Epsanjassa (Uuno in Spain) from 1985 is my all time favorite Uuno -movie. Check that out some time!
These separate scenes are not so funny in their own way, because the context of the scenes is not clear from them, and it is the context that makes them funny.
It's not a "Lenny Shketch" but "y-len-nyk-set. 🤭
The ranks you can actually achieve during your conscription are private and private first class, of course, and corporal and sergeant for NCOs, and ensign/second lieutenant for the officer students on their last day. Ranks up to chief warrant officer/sergeant major and commander/lieutenant colonel are possible while in reserves if you actively take part in rehearsals (and warrant the promotion).
Uuno beat Häyhä by a long shot.
Uuno Armais and Uuno Turhapuro, President of the Republic, are the best. Manit boys and bultti boys are also legends. I don't know if there are subtitles
Spoiler: In the 16th movie he became the president of Finland and almost the king of Finland, when Finland was about to be made a kingdom, but being a king would have meant too much work for him, so he asked the former president to take back his job and left the politics. In the course of events wife swapping with the king of Sweden was suggested and the king of Sweden was willing. One reason why people loved the Uuno movies was that the cast displayed many of the most beloved Finnish actors, and also some fitting unexpected cameo appearances. One comedy character who comes to mind is Elmo, the ultimate Finnish sport hero. He was introduced in a radio play in 1977, which received a citation in Prix Italia. Two sport commentators report Elmo's incredible competitions. Elmo E.g. forms the Finland competition team alone, and then goes to win all the competitions. He also wins in team sports single-handed. He falls and still manages to win the 100 m race, would you believe. Sounds like fantasy, but that's what happened.
