I had a yellow '70 Eliminator with the 351C for a few weeks. A guy was stripping it down to make a dirt track car out of it, and I talked him into selling it to me. I think the car eventually got restored, but I lost track of it after I sold it.
I had a flood of memories when this episode showed up. My Uncle took me to grade school in a maroon 68 Cougar. Loved those flip up headlights, and the cool interior. I also remember how she rotted away up here in the N. East ! Thanks : )
Nice, Kevin, thanks! My first car was a '68 Cougar. I sold it to get a '70 Z28, then sold that to get a '65 Vette. Sure wish I had the funds to keep them all! Again, thanks for the vids! :)
I own a 99 Mercury Cougar V6 5 speed but my dream is to own an original generation Cat 67-70 model to park next to it. The Mercury Cougar was my first car and I have a love for the car that borders obsession. A 69 or 68 in full black out next to my 99 would make my life complete to say I own the beginning and end of an amazing car. Thanks for the videos guys I may never own one but to see and hear the history is enough for me. Thank you so much.
The collection is full of some of the finist examples of muscle cars but I'm surprised that they don't have more of the SCJ, they are even more rare. Thanks for sharing.
Unfortunately, the Boss 302 didn't get a "track pack" (Mercury called it Drag Pak) option in '69. However, they all came with 3.91 traction lok rear axle ratio, so not too shabby ;-)
If I had the choice of owning one Cougar it would probably be a 69 Cougar Eliminator BOSS 302. I like the looks of the 69 slightly better than the 70 but the 69's are extremely rare. Less than 150 of them were made if I'm not mistaken. So I'd settle for a 70 lol. That red 68 Cougar GT-E with the 427 is a gorgeous car. In my opinion the 67-68 Cougar is the best looking car ever built by Mercury other than maybe the 49-51 Merc's
Thanks. Interestingly, the Cougar’s with the 427/ SCJ/cj are a little EXTRAORDINARY.... INTERESTING Cars:: and that Boss 302 Cougar is really special... had privilege of a few rides in a : MUSTANG BOSS 1968( .?).......seemed to be incredible power and handling.........
Same here, I was 14 years old and it was a neighbors brand new 1969, which was the first year for the Boss 302 ..may have been released late in 68. ..not sure thou.
Benevolent Protector yep, I was graduating from Pharmacy School: late 68? And : the Dealer would, not let a BOSS test Drive, go,without his Employee Driving....so I rode around: checked out, etc..passed on buying due to low gas Mileages and high maintenance.( I actually ordered Road Runner (68?, paying 200$) loaded, then passed on Vehicle... awaiting to,buy 70 Coronet 500/383......
I saw a 1970 cougar eliminator at a car show back in February, it was competition yellow with a 428, a 4 speed, houndstooth interior, and an am/fm radio. Anybody that's expert on these cars knows how super rare that car is.
I love these old classics! Only thing woulda made it better is if you would of shown is there unique taillight style, no other vehicle ever had, minus a select few TBirds had. Man class & Style again 👍

The 69 BOSS 302 Eliminators are really rare though. I think less than 200 were made if I remember right. There were over 10x as many of them built in 1970 as there were in 1969
A cousin of the Mustang with a more upscale look. If I had been old enough to drive, and a young man of reasonable means, I would have wanted the blue convertible. Low-key styling, lots of creature comforts, and 429 with a 4-speed. The Cougar could be a straight up muscle car, a personal luxury car, or both. I'll take both.
Cougars were for the guys who wanted Mustangs but considered themselves to high classed to lower themselves to driving a Ford. As a poor boy, I'm all about the low end, stripped down brands of Ford, Chevy and Plymouth, but I'm ok with the slightly more fancy Dodges and Pontiacs. Mercury, Olds and Buick are for the upper middle class douche bags.
Drives me nuts when the production statistics aren't quoted correctly >.< There were 58 Boss 302 Eliminators built with the Super Drag Pak option, not 5. To clarify on where the "5" comes from... Of those 58 Super Drag Pak Boss 302 Eliminators built, 5 of them were Competition Yellow with a Black Standard Interior and a close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. The other 53 Super Drag Pak Boss 302 Eliminators had various other paint / trim combinations, and some also had a wide-ratio 4-speed. There are currently about 27 Super Drag Pak Boss 302 Eliminators accounted for, including The Brother's car.
When my Plymouth Duster was in the paint and body shop there was a yellow 1970 Cougar Eliminater with a 302 and a 4 speed just like the one you showed in the video only difference was this had a rear spoiler on it. Not sure if it had the Detroit locker rear end or not though. Great video as always.
,my brother acquired one of a few soft top 1970 Mark Donohue gt 428 Cougar. Some guy could not paynback a personal loan and lost the car and title..I was offered the car butdodnot have the space. I had. 3 cars and 2 motos already.

Being a GM person I thought the cougars had some fantastic styling and of course some heavy hitters....👍👍

Nice. I've always loved the Cougars.
69 Cougars are just so cool, they are my favorite muscle car!
Nice, Kevin, thanks!

Sure wish I had the funds to keep them all!
Again, thanks for the vids! :)
Thanks Michael! We know what you mean!
I LOVE these Cougars from the yester years 👍👍🕊☮💌♥😍🥰
Nice had a nice 1970 Montego 302 as a kid as a first car just like the Torino loved it.
The body line on the eliminator 😍

I'll take the 1969 Eliminator with the Boss 302 track pack. ...Orange!

Love it! Thank you so very much for this awesome compilation of Mercury Cougars.
Absolutely love the 1971 Cougars. 429 cj XR7 hardtop for me!!!
Some Sharp Cougar here!!
I never had a high performance one. But I did have a 67 Cougar with a 289 2 barrel and 3spd manual. Bought it for $450 in 1982. Fun ride!
I LOVE the phenomenal sound and the front end lift at ( 3:30).
Very nice!! I'd love to have One.
This is one of my favorite TH-cam Channels...I always get excited when you guys put out a new video.

I saw a yellow 68 cougar pull into a gas station a few years ago and yelled ITS A COUGAR!!! The old ladies in the car next to us were not amused

Mercury ,Pontiac, Oldsmobile Plymouth and Studebaker! And AMC! What a damn shame that they're gone! Mercs were awesome
Those Cougars are sooo nice.

My father loved his Mustangs and called a Cougar ‘an overweight Mustang”.....LOL!
Spectacular as always!

My dream car is a 70 eliminator with a boss 302, in competition blue.

Jeremy Thompson you have good taste. I like mopar as well.

Always liked the Cougars until they got too big late in the game. A Mustang with a little luxury.

Could you option a Boss 429 Cougar? Hail Kev!
Hugger Orange?! That’s a Chevy color. That Cougar paint is either Calypso Coral or Competition Orange. I can’t say for sure without seeing in person.
We really dig too.
Do a video on the 1970 El Caimo SS 454!
68-70 Cougars are great looking cars. 4.30 gears in that Boss 302 are not very conducive to top down convertible cruisin’ lol...
Good video
Thanks
Which one of these puppies had the boss 429?
Is there a episode of the Cyclone in the background?
damn i miss and regret selling my 68 cougar 302 4 barrel carb 😑
I'd love to own a clean '67 Cougar with whatever package had the highest hp/torque output, 4spd, and Trac-Lock 9" posi rearend.....
