Both a practical domestic pickup and yet also a muscle car! The best of both worlds for any owner. The Ranchero, always a favourite of mine. Great show as always. Well done!!
i think i saw on Motor Trend Engine Masters episode regarding ram air intakes that the 429SCJ made closer to 440hp and 500lb ft from factory. Good ol' ford underrating their power plants. I just saw in my feed that one of my channels put the new GT500 on the dyno and it made something like 795 instead of 760 lol. I am ok with misleading in the 'right' direction
Ford said 370 hp gross at 5400 rpm.Sure was. But it was way more than that at 5800 to 6000 rpm. Fudged real good. The SCJ 429 was just an epic emissions era engine. In three years it was down to net ratings of 216 hp as a 429 and 224 hp as a 460, with the vast bevy of 248, 261, 266 and the rare HO 275 1973 351C 4V engines that made, gasp!, More Powa Than Big Blocks. Oh how the Mighty Fell!
My brother had a 70 1/2 Falcon Ranchero, 429 SCJ 4 speed with the 3:90 rear. Red w/Shaker, lazer stripe. It was 1972 when dad bought it off of a PA State Trooper and soon after my brother graduated in ‘73, dad reportedly had it stolen so my brother wouldn’t end up dead. I was 5 years old and loved that cool tach sliding left and right. My brother installed cable operated cutouts and learned the hard way one night to close them off as dad was on the porch with a bat and I was awakened by the beautiful sound only to see dad while looking out our shared bedroom, lol. Both have passed now, but I always was thinking: “What in the world did you think was gonna happen?” Of course there may have been more to it as dads Automotive Business name was painted on the tailgate, everyone knew him and I’m sure people were quick to rat big brother out, lol! Years later I did a burnout in Dads ‘67 Galaxie, on a one lane blacktop road, ALONG A CEMETERY in the middle of nowhere and you guessed it, he found out! No bat though-so call me spoiled! 😉
That seems very strange to me as i know there were Rancheros made in the style of Falcons that came out in 1966. Yet there appear to have been Fairlane/Torino bodied Rancheros also.
Not only I am used to Hal asphalt, I also pave new asphalt in front of Camaro’s Monday through Friday! My perspective on the ford ranchero is forever changed. Thanks Kevin, always somehow keeping it fresh.🎯🎯🎯
i ordered a 1969 ford ranchero with the 428 cobra jet engine. 4 speed and posi.the car was a perfect delivery truck and a great race car on the weekends.i won my class every week and stock eliminator twice.i had to sell it when i purchased a hurst amx.

I can relate to that. I was passing a BMW with my old 66 Ford PU in primer. Come around a curve there was a trooper sitting. He pulled over the Beamer, but I was the one speeding.
Lol I wish I was that lucky when I got nailed by a dtate trooper on my 25th birthday in my Fairlane. 2am he caught me doing a burnout leaving a gas station and I took off like a bat out of hell not realizing he was there. He caught up 3 miles later I was doing 115 climbing a hill haha. He was super cool though, he let me go as a birthday present lmfao.
Listen I love 70-71 Torinos and Rancheros, this is a great channel, and this car is awesome. Egads though, this is obviously a restoration in the works. No interior video, and I was distracted the entire time by wobber-jawed doors.
Great "take" of the front suspension showing the sway bar as Kevin explained. For us gearheads, nothing more Lovely than "The Words & The Irons" at the same time.
Insanity man ...I love the 5 slotted wheels exactly like the Australian version wheels and hubs that used to come on the Falcon GT-HO SuperRoo Those Goodyear Polyglass tyre are insanity gorgeous
We did ours up with Baby Moons, a Hard Tonneu that matched the black vinyl top and it was a Dark Grey Mettalic and Big Mickey Thompsons on the back plus a Hurst shifter on the 4 speed! It was hard to launch without lighting the tires!
MLP-Hot-Rod Very rare I’m sure. Not many cars had the Super Cobra Jet 429 from the factory. I’m sure less than 50 rancheros came with it and even fewer with four speeds. This could very well be only one of maybe a few to still exist. It’s a very rare car indeed.
My dad bought a brand new SS 454 El Camino when I was a kid in 1971, it was a 4 speed also. At the same time my mom was driving her 1965 SS Impala but it was an automatic with a 327 in it and it was a lavender or really light blueish purple with a pure white interior. Man I loved that car.
I had a 79 Ranchero that I used a couple of Gran Torinos for donor parts, unfortunately, I could only come up with a super-strong running 460 engine to replace the 351M400 the Ranchero came with from the factory. This special you have on the Ranchero brought mine up for me, I miss that car. It's one of those I shoulda', woulda', coulda', kept it, lol.
