- My 2nd Favorite Dispersed Camping Spot Ever!! / Boondocking North Rim Grand Canyon / FR 611 & FR 257
Hey All! After seeing all those wonderful roadside attractions along Route 66, we have finally arrived at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon!! And after a few days visiting my friends that have been work camping at the North Rim Lodge, I decided to spend some time boondocking in that area. Since I had done my research, I knew that FR611 was the prime place for dispersed camping because it’s RIGHT ALONG THE EDGE of the canyon!! Needless to say, my spot was beautiful, but not without a few challenges (of course). Be sure to watch the video all the way through so you won’t miss a single minute of my latest misadventures.
PS My #1 favorite boondocking site of all time is still the one along the edge of the cliff at the Badlands!!

Thanks for the video. I have put road 611 on my bucket list.
You're gonna love it!!
Yay Kim! You made it to the Grand Canyon!!! Those look like beautiful campsites. 😊
I did!! And next up will be the South Rim 😁 I'm working on those videos right now 😉
thank you so much for this video......we are now going to head that way at the end of August!!!
Oh, I'm so glad I could point you in a great direction! Enjoy!
Just found this channel. Nice dispersed camping area. Road does not seem too bad. Thanks for sharing this boondocking info near the Grand Canyon. Take care and safe travels.
Welcome! Yeah 🎉 I'm so glad you found my video helpful! And thanks for taking a minute to let me know - comments like yours just make my day! 🤗

Hey Liz 🖐 I'm really trying. I want so much to be a full time content creator!! 🤞🤞
@@RoamTownGirl Keep at it and I'm sure you'll make it, you definitely have the personality for it. 😁
That's a great area. Pretty high in elevation. Close to 8000 feet, if not more.
I looked up the elevation of the top of the trailhead there - it says it's 6,860 😉
@@RoamTownGirl They probably have snow on the ground now.
😘😘😘😘
Happy Sunday ☕️🌞
@@RoamTownGirl 😘

Shyanne s barking at Westley and Shelby in the background 🤣

@@RoamTownGirl Shyanne must recognize your voice because she starts watching when she here's you talking
😀
That's the type of views I love...the City is to loud and crowded.
Thank you for the great video and tip - this looks awesome and just our type of boondocking! We're headed up there next week and our gas truck has not been a fan of towing up steep grades lately (need a new fan clutch). How bad was the climb getting up there?? Debating whether we should just find a spot near Jacob Lake to save the last climb without the trailer - but would rather go all the way to 611 if it's not too bad. Thank you!
FYI the climb from Kanab was not too bad but it's legit with pretty solid grades up to Jacob Lake. After that, the final 25 miles to 611 is pretty mild. However WAY worse would've been coming in from the Vermillion Cliff's side. Wow, we left that way and it was so steep, long and windy! In the end we loved our spot on 611 - about 5 miles in. Found a great spot for our 34' TT about 100 feet from the view. Further down there are spots RIGHT on the ledge and only a few of those could've accomodated our size...but amazing views of course!
When were you there? Just curious as the North Rim is on my bucket list and I'm wondering what time of year is best to visit.
I was just there in early October. It was the very END of their season - they close up around Oct 15th. I went to visit a fellow nomad friend who was work camping there, in the gift shop. So, it was getting cold (I loved it 😉), but several places and services were closed. I think the end of Sept might be best 🤷🏼♀️ so you're still towards the end of the season, not too hot or cold, and the crowds should be a bit thinned out 😁👍🏻
@@RoamTownGirl thanks! I know it can snow early and definitely not a fan of driving in bad weather but also not a fan of crowds so that's good to know.
Could a minivan access FS611?
Sure. I did it in my big motorhome 😜 You can even go further down that road than I did. If you watched the whole video, you can go past the "Y" 👍🏻
What happened? What did you hear? Why wouldn’t you feel safe?
Hi Patricia 🖐 First, you need to know that I suffer from really bad anxiety, so that is part of what impacts me when this happens. And, this is probably the 3rd or 4th time this has transpired during my 5 years as a nomad. I am woken up by strange noises around the rv - rustling? footsteps? Once it was my trash can being tossed around. I'm almost 100% sure that evertime, it has just been an animal. BUT in the middle of the night, when I'm off by myself with no neighbors, and the dogs hear it too - my anxiety kicks in and I'm sure it's someone who wants to either rob me, or harm me, or both! Of course that's never been the case, however, by first light I decide I can't take another night of feeling so isolated and vulnerable, and I head for a more populated situation...It can be tough for me to balance my desire to camp alone and my overactive imagination 😔
@@RoamTownGirl Sorry to hear you get scared. I would put motion sensor security lights on rig so when you look out you can see if it’s an animal. I have a super loud air horn and van alarm I would push if I saw a human. I do have fear of my catalytic converter being stolen. And lastly I have a weapon if need be.
I dont want to take away the beauty of boondocking and the nomadic life, BUT it is very concerning to me that there are very few automotive repair shops that have the lifts to change oil in class C rvs and class B rvs. Also 2 to 3 weeks to get an appt. Then the supply chain issues of getting parts. No channel is talking about the reality of this and the MAJOR challenges ahead
I haven't encountered that yet, but one of the things I have done is had a mobile mechanic come and change the oil and do other engine related services when I'm parked at an RV park.
@@RoamTownGirl Good idea. I was in Bellemont AZ a month ago. 2 to 3 weeks to get my Roadtrek in. No where in Flagstaff did anyone have the lift to change my oil. I had to go to Kingman
I'm so surprised to hear that your size rig isn't more easily accommodated. I would have thought that any of quick oil change places (like jiffy lube, etc.) could fit your rig with no problem. I go to those type of places too - but only certain locations have a tall enough bay for my rv.
