    ✅Ingredients
    • 1 ½ cups mandarin orange slices, canned or fresh
    • 1 ½ cups diced pineapple, canned or fresh
    • 2 medium bananas, sliced
    • 1 pound strawberries, sliced
    • 1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes, or shredded coconut
    • ¼ cup lemon juice
    • 1 ½ cups mini marshmallows
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
    • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
    • ½ cup plain or vanilla yogurt
    ✅Instructions
1️⃣ In a large mixing bowl, toss together oranges, pineapple, bananas, strawberries, coconut flakes, and lemon juice. Then, add in marshmallows.
2️⃣ In a separate large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer or a stand mixer to whip cream and vanilla extract. Slowly add in powdered sugar and cornstarch. Continue whipping until stiff peaks form, about 5 minutes.

wish me luck... I'm a widowed man who is an absolute neophyte in the kitchen... I've been invited to a large family gathering and I was asked to bring "a salad"... as the ambrosia salad is a personal favourite and ideal for a summer BBQ, I came here and found your recipe... it was very well explained and I followed your directions carefully... the end result is visually identical to yours (like you, I opted for strawberries only) but the real test will be with the gang tomorrow afternoon... I'll let you know how it goes... in the meantime, thank you SO much for a recipe that has given this old guy some confidence in a VERY new environment... cheers!🙂

Well, thanks to you dear lady, I'm a hero... the salad went over extremely well and was sufficient for the many of those attendees who opted to put it on their plate... there were probably 50 people at our gathering but obviously only some of them chose my salad... I got lots of compliments so now I've decided to make another bowl for card night at Grandma's on Wednesday... :)

Next time, maybe try Watergate salad. Mix together 1 small box of pistachio pudding, 1 can of crushed pineapple with the juice, & 1 regular container of Kool whip topping. Top with nuts if that's your thing & chill overnight. ¡Et vóila! From one widow to another - it's my absolute favorite! 💕

Thank you I have been donated so much fruit with bananas, oranges, pineapples, and I'm like what to do with all this fruit so it don't sit to rot and good fruit go to waste. I love all these ingredients. I can't wait to make this my 18 and 20 year old don't like bananas or coconuts but I do so I'm excited to make something for us all but my grandbaby is going to definitely get used to a new flavor and I cant wait to dive in to this deliciousness. God bless. I see this is the store whipped cream with jello in the store but the homemade I would say is the most flavorful to enjoy hands down.

I thought I was the only fan of ambrosia salad - OMG I’m in heaven. And it’s funny - this dish is much greater than the sum of its parts.
I would personally soften some cream cheese to add to the cream or (not embarassed to say) I’d even use cool whip in a pinch. You could even cut some of the sweetness by using some sour cream in the mix.
Seems wrong not to have the cherries but I have to say as a kid whenever I had this dish, the cherries were rare in the dish and you were lucky to get one or two halves in your serving! So I’d guess maybe a half cup of cherries were used in the whole recipe not an entire jar.

I, too, would choose the strawberries over those loathsome maraschino cherries anytime (ugh, they're sickly, sweet). We speak the same food language. Enjoyed the video and am always open to new salad ideas.

    • @ophthodoc
      @ophthodoc ปีที่แล้ว

It wouldn’t seem right without the maraschino cherries. HOWEVER they were ALWAYS rare in this salad whenever I had it as a kid… not an entire jar. It was always a special treat when your dish had a cherry in it.
The strawberries seem wrong as do the fresh fruits but I would welcome these changes as it would certainly make this a bit healthier.
