    I made this for our monthly church lunch last spring. Lots of people thanked me and said they had not had this in so many years and it brought back memories for them. Made me happy to hear that. Every last bit was eaten!

    I had never even heard of Watergate salad until yesterday. My aunt dines at the Watergate sometimes as she has worked in D.C. for decades. I'd bet she has tried it. I attended an Orange County party where nearly everyone had known the Nixons. Their great grandchildren pointed out to me how they served Shasta soda. I figured that was how they stayed old money. That's a lot of marshmallows!

    I plan on making that this Easter and I'll see what my grandchildren think of it. I always toast my pecan halves first, then I put them in the chopper, I love your idea of that little bit of sour cream in there. I can't wait to try it. Thank you Tammy! Love you!❤😊

    Greetings from
    🇺🇸 Ft Bragg. NC 🇺🇸 area. Being from middle Tennessee, I thought my grandmother was the only one that made this and called it Watergate Salad! Ive seen other versions but never anyone who made it like my grandmother did and I do. I dont use sour cream though; only difference. I still serve it in the colorful bowl set she used.

    We are allergic to soy so we just whip up 4oz of heavy whipping cream for ours instead of the cool whip. :) The pudding takes care of it, I've not had to use any stabilizers in it. Of course it never lasts long enough!

    Love Watergate!! I don’t add pecans or sour cream. Just 4 ingredients; pistachio pudding, crushed pineapple with juice, mini marshmallows and cool whip. I make a day ahead so all the flavors seep into the marshmallows. So dang good!!

    Why use pecans instead of pistachios? It's pistachio pudding.

  • @shreddinbetty365
    @shreddinbetty365 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The best way to stabalize whipped cream is after you whip the cream, add a box of dry vanilla pudding mix, continue whipping the cream until the desired consistency. You can use any flavor pudding, as long as it is in dry powder foram.

    I don't chop pecans. Just break up by hand. Only takes a couple minutes to get what you need. And more flavourful being bigger pieces.

    Way too many marshmallows for us. I use 1/2 bag. People's tastes vary. We love this salad at Christmas time. I was just wondering why people just fix this at holiday time?

    • @lolaottinger3038
      @lolaottinger3038 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several dishes that we really like but only fix at holidays and a few tears ago I decided I didn’t have to wait, so now if I have a hankering for pea salad or reception salad I just make it. The only salad or salsa I can’t make year round is cranberry because although my intentions are good, I never remember to freeze a pound or two of cranberries. I actually enjoy reception salad much more than any other jello/whipped cream salad. Also call it by different names depending on the circumstances…..deception, conception, etc….. 😂
