Legion 9i with RTX 4090 | How to Flagship!

  • The Legion 9i can easily become the source of envy for your gaming comrades, albeit at a steep price. With this new snobby family member, there is no doubt, Legion has certainly remedied the issue of its previous flagship, the Legion 7, being stripped of many sought after features this year in 2023 (biometrics, screen, build, RGB etc.) It stands out in that crowded room of gaming laptop offerings, vying for your hard-earned cash. If I could…I would have screwed this laptop together myself in Lenovo's factory just so that I could get my hands on the Legion 9i sooner for this review.
    Its got it all, fancy, looks, fancy hardware, fancy dimensions, everything. Feels like a product that is probably a result of collaboration between the dreamers and the engineers. It felt like something I would sell my other stuff for without a second thought, and instead, I was greeted with open arms by buyers' remorse. It is easy to suffer from that condition at this price tag, but extreme products can often command extreme price tags.
    I thought it was going rewrite the playbook on portable laptop gaming with the industry's first, integrated liquid cooling solution, but as many are finding out now, it appears to not have a substantial impact on the actual performance of the device. But still does 4k HDR gaming justice!
    In order to keep myself true and evaluate how good the 9i really is, I have compared it to the Alienware X16 which I think is the closest competitor in this thin and powerful gaming laptop space. Both pull cold air from the top of the keyboard deck and both support 175W TGP, both are the best offered by Lenovo and Dell. Does the Legion 9i have what it takes to be considered as one of the best gaming laptops of 2023 as the year comes to a close? Will be great to hear your comments

If you seek exclusive and premium and sleek, Razer it is!, for practical, cost effective yet powerful, pick Legion, if you want to flex your gamer DNA with great customization, the scar 16 it is. It's just that in 2023, performance has not been a huge differentiator between laptops, if you spec these all to HX variants and 4090s, chances are that their performance would be kind of similar. What sets them apart is now the brand, styling and overall additional features I think. So which do you think is calling you out the most?

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh I tried a bunch of fixes including flashing the Bios. In other legion devices, the RGB settings are baked into the Bios which is why exact level of brightness and RGB configuration would take over from the moment you press the power button but the 9i has a strange split. Reminds me of the OLD Legions which had Corsair ICUE software. But anyway, just cannot swallow this whole package. The level of RGB configuration on Legion machines should consider leveling up. @kazmiee  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey I'm so sorry about the late reply. I honestly thought I had responded! You probably may have already made up your mind by now but really if price is not an issue and you are okay with windows, then the 9i can be a much more 'eventful' machine. Maybe you can develop some gaming habits as well? But then with video editing, if you do a bit of it and are concerned with shaving time off rendering then perhaps that M3 may be the way to go especially with 64 gigs that can help with 4K videos. Also if you're looking for clear discreteness and quiet and simple then again, Mac is the way to go. The 9i is just a flash machine with good gaming capabilities but is also really well built. It's the one that may make you feel a bit more special. :)

      @kazmiee  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your question. Though I have not had hands on experience with this, But from what I have heard, the 4090 can offer 20-40% performance gains over the last gen 3080ti but obviously they cost ALOT. And it is not like the 3080ti was a slouch. I would say however, the RTX 40 series generation of laptops in 2023 in general, all have mostly had good thermal solutions with better heat management in comparison to devices from 2022.

    Nice reviews. The x16 makes a lot of cooler noise when playing, reaching 55 decibels. Can you tell me how many decibels the Lenovo gets? I'm thinking about buying one of the two and the noise bothers me a lot

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For fan noise, I'd actually side with the Alienware easily. The Legion was generally louder in my opinion and was more likely to have audible fans even under light loads. You can set Alienware in its standard power profile and it can still give decent performance while remaining relatively quiet. BUT, you know what, I have recently been testing a zenbook with an RTX 4080 and the fan noise is probably the lowest I have heard in the standard profile while still pushing out a decent amount of performance. It should have a similar price tag to the X16 and offers a lot more in terms of features as well. My review is probably still a few weeks away but initially I am having an awesome experience. I'd easily prefer it over the Alienware for now. Check it out if you can: UX7602BZ

    Great review, thanks! Subscribing. I'm planning on getting one with the 4080. Do you think that's a good idea? I really want a great display, as I will also use it for work, not just gaming.

      @kazmiee  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I think the 4080 should be a good sweet spot. Too much premium with the 4090 for an additional 15-20 % of performance. The display is as good as it gets right now. An OLED would be nice for you as well but, you may have to be careful about burn-in. If you want, you can also look up Asus's Ux7602Bz which is on discount right now. 500 nits OLED display with 16 inches and it is a touch screen as well. Comes with a pen too. Maybe you can look at that as an alternative?

      Also, thank you for your support and kind words! Hope I can make your sub count and continue to bring out new content. Btw, the laptop I suggested earlier is on my list next to review as well. :)
