    Really love the richness of the chocolate & the vanilla gives it just enough bite. I played an angel food at the store the other day but it was a bit too dry for me.

    It was great to see the Ludwig Acrolite on the list. I have had mine since 1980. It was my first drum. The grain and craftsmanship on the Canopus Zelkova are amazing.

    The N&C Tulip is in a class of its own. I knew it would be my favorite wood snare. And I thought the Ludwig Acrolite would be my favorite metal snare in this line up. But I have to say The Gretsch USA Solid Aluminum Snare was simply amazing. I have been noticing in these reviews' how impressive Gretsch Snare Drums have been sounding in general. Years ago, I owned a Gretsch Progressive Jazz wood snare, but I have never owned a Gretsch metal snare drum. I believe after this video I need one. Great video guys and Happy New Year!

    • @vorkap
      @vorkap 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those 3 happen to be in my top picks here as well, but the Dunnett GB has to be there as well, just the most perfect universal all around crispy thin metal snare you can find, no nasty overtones, no ring.

  • @hyamsosnow3973
    @hyamsosnow3973 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That Keplinger is the best-sounding steel-shelled snare drum I've ever heard! Gets my vote for #1 in this comparison. Great job, guys.

  • @JakeStaffin
    @JakeStaffin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Excellent list here, really hard to pick a favorite. I'm a big fan of aluminum snares so for me it's a tossup between the Gretsch USA Aluminum and the Ludwig Acrolite, but that British Drum Co Zikit snare is also sounding incredible in all settings and recording situations you have in the video. One of my coworkers and I (we're both percussion/drum set instructors in Westchester, NY) are planning on heading to your shop at some point in 2022 to look into some higher end kits and snares in person to check out options for what we're considering for the recording studio. I'll definitely put these Top 15 on our list of snares to look into!!

    I'm a huge fan of your playing, Tony. Not only are you technically very good, but you do a great job when showcasing full kits. I like the fact that you add all of the toms into your grooves to let us hear the actually kit, rather than simply play a snare/kick groove. I mean... that's what we're paying for is the toms, right? Obviously this video showcases snares, but regardless... you da man.

  • @perosa99

    Awesome drums. The DW copper is one that could make this list in my opinion. Too bad Bradys are no longer around. The aluminum ones made a great presence. I had not seen the TAMA before, it looked and sounded great 👍🏼

    The Noble and Cooley Tulip and the Canopus Zelkova are just on another level for the wooden snares - but how far ahead is the Gretsch USA Solid Aluminium compared to all the other metal snares - just wow.

  • @MarkSoltas
    @MarkSoltas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There are two things I love about your videos which honestly, set you guys apart from all others. One is, you guys play these drums in the best sound environments. They always sound good. The second one is, you guys always mix up the brands very well. There are two snare drums from companies I've never heard of. This provides great exposure however, makes it even more difficult to decide which ones I like best. Keep up the great work and when I'm ready which hopefully, won't be long, I'm gonna come see you guys to purchase my new kit. P.S. If you could make a 14X5.5 Birthday cake, I'd buy that too

    The Gretsch USA Solid Aluminum and Keplinger are my favs (they were in the video you all did a few months back) -- would be tough to pick. The Tama S.L.P. G-Maple sounds amazing as well -- and of course the Canopus Zelkova

    What would be fun/eye opening/potentially embarrassing would be to play lots of audio files with no indication of the shell size and material or the manufacturer. After we have all guessed ourselves to death, you could enlighten us. I would truly enjoy it, and it might open up some minds to new things. (Myself certainly included)

    Thickest crack for the metal goes to that retired Borlai drum. Almost has a natural compression to the rimshot. Rogers and Gretsch had nice, sharp transparency to them but digging into the rim on that Dunny was chocolatey. Best demo of that drum I've seen posted.

    They all sound amazing.
    Kudos as usual to great tuningI and mixing.
    I’m partial to N&C 7x14
    I’ve owned a solid Maple since the 80’s.
    It reminds me of the big throaty old Ludwig marching drums I played in Corps.
    Just add a gunshot blast behind it.
    It pops so loud it makes my eyes blink.
    Bonham be proud.
    My go to is my cherished
    76 Ludwig engraved brass Black Beauty.
    A true vintage classic that I’ll be buried with.

    Acrolite wins steel, Nobel and Coolie wins wood, Dunnet wins brass. All three champs IMO! Love your videos!

    The Pearl Stavecraft is the best. 🤗 It has a nice warm tone and it is not too low.
