    Holy moly, I’m not familiar with the gentleman who was playing the living shite out of those Yamaha AHM’s, but his technique and speed was incredible. As much as I don’t care for Pearl, I must say that the Masterworks kit did take the cake. Merry Christmas guy’s and have a wonderful New Year 🥁

    I guess Mangini can be an honorable mention! That was hilarious throwing that in the mid to end of the segment.
    Great work as always, I love the mics used on these kits. The drums sound amazing on my home theater setup.

    Something here for everyone. From classic to modern and in between. Great job DCP. Happy Holidays everyone.
    Two quick comments: Did anyone else notice the distinct note each of the Tama Bubinga toms produced? You could literally play four note melodies on them. Second, that Legacy Ludwig bass drum scares me. Afraid it might damage my walls if I were to buy/play it in my home. 😜

    Impossible to pick a "best". If I wasn't looking at money, I'd probably agree with your #1 Pearl pick. Great tone. If I'm looking at value and great tone...gotta go with the red-headed stepchild Mapex. That combo of maple and walnut just talks to me, even beyond the odd logo thing on the rack toms. And they had the best wingman in those Wuhan Koi chinas!...mad respect to all the makers, though. Thanks for another great vid!

    Of your actual picks, the sonor, DW and Tamburo really stood out…Tama gets my honorable mention for the kick alone but bubinga toms are squirrelly. Mangini’s kit sounded unreal, probably my favorite.

    In no special order the ones I liked best were the Ludwig Classic Oak, Gretsch USA Custom, Sonor Vintage and The Ludwig Legacy Maple (although I have heard them sound better in other videos). While the Pearl Masterworks sounded great, I just don't see it for the cost. The other kits I mentioned first sounded better to me. And The Ludwig Supra Chrome Over Brass was the best sounding snare drum which should be of no surprise. A little disappointed that there was nothing from Noble & Cooley, but I don't know how this list is determined. Excellent playing by everyone (and the gentleman who played The Yamaha Absolute Hybrid gets an "honorable mention" in this category) and as always great video.

    The Bonham Legacy Maple beautifully proving my theory that thin shells and big drums were born for each other! I have to admit; the Masterworks build method with the Gretsch USA shell recipe is a pretty great sounding set of drums. It's great that Pearl finally found something they can be good at besides hardware. It probably doesn't hurt the sound that Pearl's mounting hardware is a bit more science oriented as well. Still, I think Gretsch USA has better finishes and there's no doubt whatsoever regarding which brand is going to hold its resale value longer.
    Great video as always!

    My favorite sounding kits here were the Gretsch USA Custom, the Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple and the Ludwig Classic Oak. I also quite enjoyed the sound of the Legacy Maple kit; I'm not personally a fan of playing those sizes (I'd go 12 or 13 rack, then 14 16 22 for that setup) but man, that sounded powerful. But I think we're now in need of Drum Center of Portsmouth's official top 10 flannel shirt countdown, also hosted by Adam.

    • @Zazquatch1
      @Zazquatch1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree on the Gretsch, Yamaha and the Classic Oak. I would ad the Tamburos (specially the snare and kick drum, and also the Sonor Vintage and the Pearl Masterworks.
      What I found most "interesting" (personal view, of course) is that the most gorgeous drums, like the Canopus and the Tamas, where the ones that sounded worst. The finish of the Canopus matched with either of the others mentioned, would be a dream. Still I know the US Customs have a beautiful finish already

    The Kick on that Gretsch USA Custom was very good.
    The Sonor Vintage Series Rock - Amazing!
    Winner for me... The Temburo Opera Series Stave. To die for. WHAT a great sounding kit.

    They all sounded great..I'd like to hear a few different heads on each kit also. Hoped that a Noble & Cooley kit might be in there but hey I know it's only a subjective list anyway. No British Drum.Co either. No acrylic drums in the countdown either.. sa la vié. When is Premier going to expand into the USA again ? I love your videos and the talent and humor you guys have. You always kill it ! Merry Christmas

      I think Premier exists more or less as a registered name and little more. I haven't seen a kit in person in a UK shop since 2013 and nothing online since they moved to Asia around 2015. A couple of places say they're official dealers and can order direct from factory but I've never tested that. I'd sell body parts to get a 90s Signia kit in my preferred sizes, but most people keep hold of them knowing how good and hard they are to come by.

    Thanks for the video. It's nice to see what is out there. I have always liked Sonor Drums, but I wished there were better options for larger piece shell packs and chilling a little bit in price.
    The local chain store tried to pass one on those that didn't kmow nuch about "trim" levels when they put out a Yamaha Absolute Series in the area that is usually for testing out drums. I wonder how many Stage Customs they sold when the customer discovered the price difference....lol.
    I hope to buy soon, and will consider your store, despite being out of state.

    I like the Tama the best even though I think they'd sound even better with clear heads. Always heard bubinga was the best and it shows here. Especially the bass drum
    Also helps that the hi hat and ride on that kit sounded amazing

    Kinda sad that acrylic tamburo didn't make the list. That was such a unique sounding kit. That being said, sonor and that luddy oak were my favorites.

    woah, this Tama just sings, only it seemed it could use some fine tuning on the heads. Also, I don't like to like DW, but this time I can't help but like. Those were the two kits which stood out for me. Mapex was pretty good, too!

    Tama all day. A lot of these kits were tuned too high for my taste, that Tama star can really have a beefy sound when it’s tuned lower. But can also sing like no other when it’s tuned higher like in this video.

    • @S_Pat90
      @S_Pat90 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what I was thinking. That bubinga set was met to be tune wayyyy lower.

    First off, the Legacy Maple Bonham kit is in a class by itself, and with those big sizes really can't be compared with the other kits. Of the rest, the Ludwig Classic Oaks were killer - great punch and bite, and that bass drum sounded the best of all on the room mics.
