I made the move from a major music store drummer posting reviews to yours simply because he never actually REVIEWED the gear, only pointed out the positive aspect of each kit. As a female drummer I needed a real comparison and something to help me decide on my next kit. That's where Shane, Tony and the crew stand out from the rest. They're honest and transparent, which is what I need. I visited DCP a couple of years ago and never wanted to leave, but they do have operating hours :). DCP is now my go to, even though I now live on the Jersey Shore. I'll be purchasing a new kit soon. Which one? I'll keep watching, and hopefully you will point me in the right direction. Love the Dunnett Bronze ND N&C Tulip but of all the drums demo'd here, only one sung with equal batter/reso transparency and that was the brass star reserve. Don't think I've ever heard a snare drum so well balanced and again, that transparency. You truly get the image of the 6.5" shell with every backbeat. I'd want to play one in person though because as with higher end Turkish cymbals, anything hand hammered will have it's own unique voice. Great demo guys.

A big reason why the Gretsch aluminum drum sounds so good is because of the 302 hoops...they just give any drum a really fat, meaty tone that sits in the sweet spot between die casts and triple flanges. I won't use anything else anymore. Hilarious that he originally thought the drum had die casts on it!

The choices available in snare drums now is just amazing. It is hard to pick out just one 'all-around, go to, favorite' that is why I've built up a snare drum collection over the years in the quest to find the snare drum sound I need for any situation. Out of this collection I really like that Canopus mahogany..warm and articulate. Out of my collection, the closest to an 'all around' snare drum that covers a variety of musical situations is my Ludwig 'Carl Palmer Signature' 3.7 x 14" brass-shell snare drum..it has a surprisingly wide tuning range everything from a sharp crack down to a meaty fat tone when tuned lower.

Dunnett Gergo Borlai Bronze. maybe it was the higher tuning but just cut through the mix perfectly.
Runner up was the Star Reserve hammered brass.

The Gergo Borlai snare is by far the best sounding one. My personal favorite is actually my DW Collectors Series 6.5x14 Copper 3mm thick shell that I heard on your channel in the DW comparison video. I ordered it as soon as I heard it.

The Keplinger had me until the Barrett tow-it-up with that Gretsch USA Solid Aluminum. Man, it sounds great,...Barrett knows how to hit. I'll still give the Keplinger the nod, but not by much -- #3 for me would be the Canopus Maple. That floor tom sounded amazing too.

When James started playing all I could hear in my head was "Are you ready Steve? Uh-huh
    Andy? Yeah
    Mick? Okay
    Alright fellas, let's go!…"

damn that tulip sounds so good! I'm a metal drummer so my next snare is probably the TAMA JT or Ludwig LM402 but i loved that tulip wood snare.

I have to say, I think this is my favorite DCP video so far. the fun facts were great.
as far as the drums, I think I like the Keplinger for a metal shell and the tulip for a wood shell. never mind that I almost wet myself from laughing due to the video for the tulip section.
    thanks for this.

Great Video. Very different Styles, so different solutions. All did sound great. The very thing I miss even here is the theme of volume.
Great picks all of them. My personal pick would be the Tama. It has sensitivity but can cut through the sound without getting too edgy.
Personally I use a Gretsch 14 x 6 1/2 USA Bronze and a Yamaha 13 x 6 1/2 Brass Recording Custom for higher notes, both tuned rather high.
For playing quiet gigs and a crisp Funk sound I chose a Pearl 13 x 3 Brass Piccolo. It's clear and tight but not loud enough against brutal guitar players.

I’m so lucky to have purchased one of the star reserves at the end. So lively. Thank you guys for pushing Tama to make it with the 6.5 inch depth!
    Great video and comparison.

Really like the Noble and Cooley tulip. I generally prefer wood snares, but the Gretsch aluminum was really nice too
