My college had only one professor with real world experience and she was too busy making films to teach classes. As a result, theory profs had to teach production and did so so poorly that I was still teaching my classmates the basics of all facets of film prod into the senior year. I only finished college to be the first in my family to do so, but I felt like it was a huge waste of time and money. 4 years to be only a jack of all trades with no ability to master what I wanted to in school and nothing new was learned. I specialize in editing with talent for directing (it helped with teaching my classmates), but am trying to learn after effects to make my editing work smoother.
I only use after affects for motion graphics and stuff like this, I want to learn much more but I am more of a DP and normal Video Editor. But I have used After Effects for over 10 years now and this is the first time I have ever seen someone talk about all of these tracking techniques you can use with base AE, amazing video! This is why we follow you guys!
Thanks for this video. I appreciate getting to the meat of the tutorial without so much time wasting. Its so useful to see this for those times when I haven't done a particular task in awhile and this gets me back quickly.
Also if you don't have access to after effects then you can do the same thing in blender (a free software). I have access to both blender and after effects and I personally prefer blender.
i have a shot of someone walking in front of windows - in the windows I want to show videos. is this possible with blender? (the biggest problem is the man walking in front of those tracked window/displays)
@@brained1502 yes this is definitely possible! If you want more information on motion tracking I would suggest watching this video by Ian Hubert. th-cam.com/video/lY8Ol2n4o4A/w-d-xo.html
It's incredible that After Effects hasn't changed in two years, which would have negatively affected this tutorial. To be fair, I only followed the first method of motion tracking, and it worked perfectly. My only complaint is that it was maybe a bit too fast for a beginner.👍
is there a way to tell it to focus on a specific area? To save time? Or it has to take in the whole scene to properly do this? I have a shot of car driving on the road and the camera is vehicle mounted. I wanted to put some text on the road as he drives by, but this technique took a while to scan the scene and then all of the points were fixed to everything but the road lol.
This is the second time I've done tracking and the text disappears as soon as I pick-whip it to the null object. I can't figure out why! Any suggestions?
awesome video. can you plz give a few tips about the "selling" of the comp in 7:35(corner pick track)? im have a hard time to adjust the light, color and blur. just a few pointers would be most welcome. thanx alot ;)
uhhhh composite a bunch of things like 30 times and you'll get there. seriously, just go start to finish, accept that your first ones will be trash and don't forget reference and learning how light and materials work.
How do you change the blend mode of a layer in After Effects? You mentioned being able to use overlay blend mode, but didn't show where that is? Thanks!
very easy video examples for this kind of work. What if, in the phone example, a person holds the phone with one hand and slides his finger across the screen with the other hand? At best, one corner will be overlapped, and at worst, two corners will be overlapped. How to do tracking in this case?
Of course, when the green screen footage includes those clear + characters, probably easiest to use those for the tracking points, and then adjust the actcual footage frame outside that. That's especially helpful when fingers cover the corners of the phone, which would otherwises easily destabilise the tracking.
Hi, you explain this very clear. Now, when I hit play to anaylize it does nothing. Just stays there. The play button turns into stop button and just stays there. Am I missing something? thanks.
My professor at my college copied this lesson, he assigned us to use the exact same assets too.🤦♂️ TH-cam is better than college and free.
Exactly why I left, to be in debt….for what
😂😂😂😂
