I've worked with AE for decades, right from the beginning. This is a great tutorial for beginners. One suggestion, Peter. When referring to left or right sides of any App's workspace, realize that we are looking at it from the opposite angle so you would serve your students very well if you gestured left when referring to the right or vice versa. All the best. Keep it up.
This is like learning French. Starts well and then when you have to combine a bunch of words to say something you quit lol
Or like Latin. You're eager to learn the vocabulary 'cause it's a new important main subject and everything but then more and more grammar and tables and stuff come in that you have to learn by heart in order to be able to understand everything so you lose motivation over time.
(I'm only saying this cause I wanted to lol, I'm actually still trying to understand After Effects so I can do cool stuff with videos. The part about Latin is true though...)

Update: I wanted to throw my laptop at first, but once I got the basics it started to become easier! I now love it and feel generally pretty comfortable using the software (there’s still tons I don’t know)

This was one of the first videos I've found of you where the majority of the comments are people complaining, b*tching and moaning about how much you talk. I think people who are into video graphics are very impatient users. What they don't know is that your style of presenting complex information made simple for beginners while having a great personality is one of the main reasons why you're a successful TH-camr. Sara Dietschy Don't be scared of it, you can make so many things with it from intros, titles, outros, puppet animations, particle effects, animated backgrounds, everything. That seems scary but look at some tutorial that looks fun, learn it have fun, then do another and another and another you'll have fun and learn what part of after effects you'll have fun and want to learn the most of.

I picked up Photoshop by playing around and experimenting, but After Effects is a totally different kettle of fish. Im always learning new things on After Effects through tutorials- I welcome another one!
Madison B lol.. I'm the opposite, I work daily with AE, and sometimes make artwork on it instead of Photoshop :D .. usually because it might have to be animated.

It is true, adobe after effects is an absolute BEAST! I love how you thought everything in a very detailed way, you earned my subscribe button and a bell!
I have been looking at after effect tutorials and was thinking to leave after effect for another time but this guy made this so easy I understand I made a demo video it's so great.
So weird to think about that a lot of people think After Effects is scary, been using it since i started making video's. And I think that for a lot of "older" filmmakers this was the way to go software to start using when creating video's. I actually started with After effects and then got to learn Premiere but yeah After Effects just feels like home to me...but Adobe acrobat scares me tho ;)

Learned After Effects before touching Photoshop or Premiere. I think Andrew Kramer, FreddieW, Corridor Digital had a great push for using After Effects so that's most likely why.
