Hi you were having the exact same problem I had after changing the drive belt. I reassembled everything the way it came off but now my blade is running all the time like yours. You got right to the end and you fixed the issue but you did t show what you did to fix it.
A great fix Mick. Sometimes we fettle stuff and don’t know why. Put this down to patience and critical thinking. Young Riley stole the show at the end. Fantastic channel, keep them coming 👍🏼
Fascinating to see a Honda mower that is evidently tailored for English lawns. It is much like the HRX217 in the US except that it is 19" (47 cm) vs 21." Moreover, the built in roller for striping is cool. I suppose both those features do well for smaller lawns whereas probably not so much the much larger US lots; my corner lot's mowing area is probably 1/3 acre. Here one must buy a roller attachment if striping is desired. Finally, the engine on the HRX217 is the larger GCV190 vs. GCV 160 on the 476. I bet the clutch setup is essentially the same though, so thanks Mick for this.
1. Owned this mower since 2006. Couple years ago, first cut of the season, would not start? ("Easy start" on top!). Tip to the right (near 90 degrees), swill the petrol about and hey presto it fires up ' easy '. YMMV. 2. Your adjustment of the (cutter?) clutch. I did that with the drive 'clutch' and the fastening at the bottom (engine end) came off. Only when I watched your other video I found out how to get into it? Any way to keep the engine end from dropping off please Mick?
Morning Mick I’m so happy I found your channel. I have a similar problem to you and I have watched and rewatched your video my one question for now is did you stick with having 2 woodruff keys in place on the shaft as on taking mine apart I only have the one and for the life of me can’t seem to find it if I’ve lost it.
Hello Mick amazing video for someone who knows nothing about mowers. I have a Hrb475 with what looks like a similar clutch mechanism. So complex - Put me off trying to fix myself. Problem is blade gets up to speed but then stops really quickly. Hoping not anything more complex than clutch cable tension?
Have same mower and the drive works but the cable is all slack both handles are loose no resistance.. i am clueless sadly ..any ideas great fully received 🤞
Hi Mick do you know the difference please between the hrb 475 and 476? I know they are both 19inch but surely the numbers must mean something. Many thanks
@@themowerman top man. I want expecting a reply that quick lol. They both look so identical, both the lighter colour deck plastic I think they are. Anyways thank you for the reply buddy have a good day
Of note, when you fasten back the blade clutch cable, the black 'tube' alongside the handle moves quite a bit? Should be tied to the handle? Also, the new belt is catching on the plastic 'shield' (underneath view) (ps - Interesting watching the logic you use to decide which way to go :-) )
If you tie the black tube alongside the handle, at the bottom, then this gets in the way of folding the handle for transport in a small van /estate. If you tie the black 'tube' halfway up and also near the top (with cable ties) then the 'tube' and cable can fold easily when putting it in transport mode.
Mick I have a Honda HRX 476 bought on 2016 it's a different version that the one on the video . and the speed /drive lever does not work I think it's a cable gone as mower works fine and steady if I push it any idea if it's a fix I could do or expensive job at machine centres. I am a bit green with engines but did service myself
Hi.. so so the first thing I would say is have a go.. track the cable to where it connects.. and see it its broken or come off.. take photos as you go or make notes.. let me know how you get on
Mick after stripping of blade shroud lots of bolts..contacted Honda they sold me upgrade kit said the clutch cable been modified so all good ..keep up your great videos thanks for encouraging
QUESTION FOR YOU MICK.........(or any one else) I have the same 476 and a 426 (wheels not rollers though) which I am messing about with. I know nothing at all and I am learning from youtube. I have got both engines running after getting new carbs and stuff. I have drive on both mowers but I have no blade turning on either of them. I have no idea why but can you suggest where I should look first. Liked and subbed and need help. Ta ever so. Steve
Its easy to pull something apart and lose something. Try and get photos or draw pictures to make certain all guides and parts are properly assembled. I have found two lawn mowers so far this year with the blade on upside down. I know DIY people try to do things right but they need to take pictures first. The single most issue I find with Honda mowers is the drive cam is on backwards. I automatically check those first on every mower. 90% are installed wrong. Even I catch myself putting them on wrong. Its easy to do. If you push forward and there is no clicking sound, its on wrong. The model you worked on is not a popular brand in the US so I havent seen one. The principal is the same on all of them. Most have that blade brake system.
Thanks Mick, I've got a similar mower that I need to check the clutch system, this vid has removed the mysteries of the rota clutch system mate

Sounds like the clutch may have gone.. or a cable problem
What a pain Mick . But fair play kept going . Guess being a old sod
the clutch had a spring but guess they have done away with it.
