For the most part I stopped wearing headphones at the gym and it's so coincidental that you're talking about this because I could never tell why. The gym sounds do provide a little extra motivation, I actually like that.
I noticed this too. My body tensed up and I would stop but I noticed my body wasn’t in pain. I was fighting going to another level. So now I listen to my breath and I run with ease
