I think this meter is an absolute bargain for the price. It accuracy is on par with meters that are double the cost. This is my overview on recent power meters I've tested. Not in any order. 1. I give the Monitor Sensors meter a 9 out of 10. I base my ratings more off of accuracy than anything else. I like the sleek size and modern functionality of this meter. It's display as bright and vibrant and very easy to read. The color changing swr alarm feature is also a useful feature for any ham shack. 2. I would give the LP100A a solid 10 out of 10. The accuracy is the best of the best. The owner of Telepost is outstanding to work with. www.eham.net/reviews/view-product?id=5981 3. I would give the bird 43P an 8.5 out of 10. Reasons for this. The elements are expensive to purchase. You must purchase them based on power range/ frequency range. The meter tends to lose accuracy when using a higher power element while reading lower power levels. Thus you must switch to a lower power level element. The authentic bird peak kit is definitely the way to go if you want to go this route. Aftermarket peak kits are more affordable but also in my opinion are lacking accuracy. If you have necessary equipment to calibrate an aftermarket peak kit then that's a different story. Most definitely don't have this equipment. The bird peak meter really doesn't have any other functions besides power and reflected power. It is very easy to forget to shut off the peak kit. You will come into your shack one day and have dead pep circuit. 😢 4. Diawa CN901HP/HP3 I would give this meter a rating of 7 out of 10. If I'm rating it just for its accuracy... Then I would say it's about a 6 out of 10. The reason I give it a total of 7 out of 10? There is something to be said about using a analog meter. It is very pleasing to look at and has a nice presentation. I think plus or minus 10% isn't enough accuracy. That type of inaccuracy could lead to accidental failure of say something like a low drive amplifier ect.
ordered one from dx engineering thursday came in today , it was only $10 more than the ameritron awm -30b now i have two quailty meters thanks to your videos and recommendations . no guess work setting up my 4 radios and equipment that came from Scott's radios llc. thanks mike for all you do for the radio hobby. 73
Very impressive! Definitely enjoyed the review/comparison next to the LP. Thanks for recommending it in the first place. I’d say it’s one of those meters worth have more than one in the shack. 🎙️🎙️🎙️
Nice to hear it works great. I bought it as my first meter after getting a radio from you. I just uploaded an old dusty pic of that unit ontop of a 955. Nice to know it has accuracy.
Nice review! We appreciate the time you put into these vids. Timing was interesting because I put an SWR/ power meter in the box with my radio and shipped it out this morning. It’s the little CQR-SWR120 that I’ve been using the last couple of months. Figured I’d toss it in there just in case you wanted to check it out. 73 Peace Out.
Great stuff! If you turn the alarm off in the menu (yellow screen) then the display will change colour from blue gradually all the way to red as the SWR increases up to over 3:1. Very cool 👍
I would be interested in buying one if i didnt already own a Power Master meter(to my understanding, no longer made) its digital as well. Very accurate and reads reflect along with power, swr and has swr alarms. Thanks for the review.
Yeah I'm not selling them or anything. I just like to show some different products from time to time.. I've heard lots of good things about Palstar, so I'm sure you're good to go there. 73
Some would be surprised how accurate some of these digital peak reading meters are. I’ve had quite a few myself that actually is only a few watts off from a Bird PeP kit
Well that's a great meter for someone getting into this and would like to see PEP. That is this biggest talked about in the radio world when I started out. Thanks for sharing an alternative dollar amount. The LP is great. But to do all over again I'd went with this none China option. 73's.
Telepost Inc. is sold local to me. I support my local business by using them. N8LP N8JBP are the owners. If they're having their products made offshore that's none of my concern. The products work excellent and I will continue to support them as long as they are being made.
Far cry from the radio shack remote watt/swr meter for sure... If this had come out before the CN-901/CN-501 series!!! lol aw well, thats what makes radio equipment swapmeats interesting when new gear comes out!!. Thanks for sharing Mr Scott
Good one Scott... G'DAY!! I still would like to see a quick calibration of the Daiwa meter to this or the LP100 , the Daiwa might have been slightly off from the factory.?
This is not possible since the design is completely different. The Pep circuit on the Diawa has a posted level of accuracy in it specification. You cannot improve that by changing internal adjustments. Most hobby grade pep power meters are usually within plus or minus 10% which is good enough for most.
@@ScottsRadios I know some Daiwas like the CN901 use a DC powered PEP circuit while others like the CN501H use a capacitor, I didn't know the powered PEP circuit couldn't be tweaked. Cheers.
Yes, average power is not necessary on AM or SSB. It's something that's been made up to glorify distortion watts on CB radio. This meter will read carrier only when there's no modulation information present. The only modes were average power is applicable is FM, CW, and digital modes.

The fact that the unit is relatively accurate, less expensive and built in Australia as opposed to China makes that meter a great buy.

I just bought 1,thanks for showing it. Cheaper to buy in states, don’t buy it from Australia.
Yes I mentioned in the video that the manufacturer website does have the dealer for the USA.
it would be nice if they was remote

@@ScottsRadios Many thanks for your reply
Very interesting power meter but perhaps you can adjust it internally via potentiometers so that the difference is smaller.
I would not recommend that.
Much more sophisticated equipment consideration goes into power meter calibration.
