The star in the Minnesota Timberwolves logo is to represent the North Star as Minnesota is known as the North Star State. The Dallas Stars hockey team used to be the Minnesota North Stars before they moved to Dallas.
The logo is merely one aspect of an entire branding extravaganza -- uniforms, courts, digital screens, etc. If you take the Lakers as an example, you'll need to imagine all the players dressed in purple and yellow on a court that is painted purple and yellow, many fans in purple and yellow, and a scoreboard in purple and yellow. If you feel a bit sick at the prospect, imagine my fate as someone who has watched far too many hours of this visual blight. The original Laker team was in Minnesota before relocating to LA. There are many lakes in Minnesota. I can't think of any in LA. Teams should change their nicknames when moving, if the nickname no longer applies. The Utah Jazz were the New Orleans Jazz originally, which is a fantastic name; whereas Utah Jazz is a comically bad name good night.
@ We all must do our part. Yet there is so much more you need to know before we part ways: In the 2009-2010 season, a catchphrase emerged from the Milwaukee Bucks fan base that captured the feisty spirit of the surprisingly (and briefly) good team: “Fear the Deer.” At the time the logo was a more mild and pastoral buck, but in the past decade, the team has adopted the catchphrase; and when they redesigned the logo, they commissioned a more badass deer, as you see in the present logo. When the team finally won the championship several years ago, the phrase was engraved into the trophy. I know. That is sufficiently entertaining. You now have a surfeit, nay, an excess, of Bucks information. Yet our work here is not done. The Bucks’ mascot, who is understood to be biologically male by virtue of anatomy but not that anatomy, so I’ll be using male pronouns although I don’t actually know if this is a cisgendered deer, wanders the game helping the crowd in cheering on the team, waving his arms about, exhorting the crowd to cheer, posing for selfies with delighted old ladies, frightening little children, and dunking from a trampoline at halftime, is named Bango. It will unsettle if not terrify you to learn, and here I quote Wikipedia, which knows all, that: “At the 2009 All-Star Weekend in Phoenix, Arizona, Bango suffered an injury during a mascot-participative skit. While standing on one basket's rim, Bango's right leg slipped through the hoop, and he fell on the rim. He then slipped further and fell through the basket entirely. Bango tore his ACL due to the fall and was unable to perform for the remainder of the 2008-09 season, periodically making appearances at games in a wheelchair.” I exist but to serve.
Well there is the Salton Sea. Keep in mind too that basketball courts have a circle at mid-court so having a basketball in the logo makes it easy to incorporate on the floor.
I knew this wasn't going to go well when she said "I don't like NBA logos having basketballs in them" when almost 2/3rds of the teams logos HAVE BASKETBALLS IN THEM lololol
The funny thing is that the Utah Jazz logo you saw is already somewhat outdated again. The black and white rebrand came in 2022 and was wildly unpopular (not seen in the logo was the third color: highlighter yellow). So they've already pivoted to using your favorite color purple, sky blue, and white starting in 2025.

Huge NBA fan and Spurs fan here, this was so cute and fun!!! A lot of the logos you were judging in the tier list are indeed outdated, I'd love to see a new NBA tier vid on each team's current overall branding in general (aka Jazz still have a kickass color scheme, this tier list just had the emo one for literally no good reason)
Never really thought about it before... but yeah.. you're right. The Washington Wizards team not leaning more into the magical/wizarding element IS SUCH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY. Even the mascot is just like Cookie Monster in a jersey. They couldn't at least put him in a robe or something?
The Trail Blazers pinwheel is an artists expression of basketball. The pinwheel represents a basketball game, with five lines on each side representing the five players on each team, and the curved lines representing the speed and movement of the game. It’s very Portland
The Portland Trail Blazers insignia shows the 5 players on offense and 5 players on defense swirling around. And the LA Lakers were in Minnesota originally
Nah it’s one of the best designed and coolest looking logos in the entire league, even though the team is not good they easily have one of the hardest logos
As a Bucks fan, you didn't notice (or didn't point out) that the buck's neck/mane is shaped like an "M" for Milwaukee. Is that enough to bump it up to S??
Not even the best looking animal logo. Though I do agree it should be slightly higher because it’s the most iconic logo in basketball, definitely not S tier though
The origin of the Lakers name is that they were originally from Minneapolis and Minnesota is called the land of 10,000 lakes. I agree with most of these ranks and with most of the teams it’s like tell me your a basketball team without telling me you’re a basketball team
Love the bullshit explanation for why the Trail Blazers logo is a bunch of random shapes "The ten lines that you see in here that intersect, those ten lines represent five offensive players and five defensive players coming together in center court in competition" Reminds me of the infamous Pepsi logo gravity pull lmao

Also when the rocket launches, theres smoke going around it and thats the circle around the R Her: "today we are gonna be rating the basketball logos" Also her: "this is bad, because it reminds me of basketball" Her: "Its Pheonix Suns and its a sun and a basketball, thats not very creative" - puts it in D Also her: "I love the fact its a Golden State and they put the Golden State bridge in there," - puts it in A I know you are not a basketball fan and Im not mad at you at all, but some of these ratings were just diabolical🤣
New Orleans Pelicans fan here, I absolutely love your ranking on the Pels. Instant subscriber ma'am :) EDIT: Just watched the NFL video, and my Saints are placed high on that list too. Thanks!
I saw this video somewhere saying the reason they start transitioning their logo to circular shape is because they wanted to have a cohesive branding throughout the league and i think thats pretty good idea if you consider the bigger picture instead of just each team.
I highly recommend that you do a 2000s version of nba logos. More than half of these logos if not all of them have been simplified. The older versions have everything you look for.
9:55 - The Lakers were originally based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. When they were moved to LA, the owners didn't bother changing the name since it was alliterative. Also, the Utah Jazz were originally the New Orleans Jazz, but just like the Lakers owner, the Jazz owner liked the name too much to change it. And thus, these teams have retained these odd names for well over 40-50 years at this point.

@@deonlepharaoh i know it's symbolic of a pace car , but they should've been the Racers 🤔
@marcoshernandez7725 we had a hockey team named that
@@marcoshernandez7725 don't sound as cool
I love that she keeps mentioning she doesn’t like that NBA logos have a basketball in them when it’s mandated by the NBA that each team’s primary or secondary logo must have a basketball in it 😂 maybe that says something about their policy
I like the rule, actually, because otherwise people who don't know basketball won't necessarily know it's a basketball team logo.
@@VynceMontgomery I kinda agree, but when you then get bs like the Wizards, Thunder or Clippers I feel like it doesn't really help anyone. Then again, that also might just be the fault of this awful trend that everything needs to be as minimalist as possible.
you forgot to add that the sacramento kings awfully resembles a fast food logo
Sort of looks like a thing of fries. Also I am still trying to figure out why San Antonio's logo is a U.
@@theman4884 spUrs
@@theman4884 the Spurs Logo is a spur. Y'know, the thing Cowboys have at the heel of their boots?
@@TheMarslMcFly I know. But it always looks like a Y or U to me.
putting lakers knicks iconic logos an f is diabolical. I agree some are horrible, but some are TOO TOOOOO iconic it cant be changed. its like a classic and always be timeless, simple clean and minimalist.
Thing is she doesn’t watch or know basketball so none of the nostalgia applies, she’s ranking them based on looks and aesthetics alone
This is someone from the outside she doesn't fcking care what is your history is she is just looking at the logo which represents the team and for me personally it is dogshit also even as a long time basketball fan.
honestly interesting video because NBA creators have done similar videos but you being a layman its interesting to see where you agree and where you deviate because you arent effected by the context and history of somethings, for example NBA people hate the new clippers logo but yes everyone hates the Trailblazers
@@viperstrike0 this is so interesting!
@@qqw743 this is poetic
@ We all must do our part.
Yet there is so much more you need to know before we part ways:
In the 2009-2010 season, a catchphrase emerged from the Milwaukee Bucks fan base that captured the feisty spirit of the surprisingly (and briefly) good team: “Fear the Deer.” At the time the logo was a more mild and pastoral buck, but in the past decade, the team has adopted the catchphrase; and when they redesigned the logo, they commissioned a more badass deer, as you see in the present logo.
It will unsettle if not terrify you to learn, and here I quote Wikipedia, which knows all, that:
“At the 2009 All-Star Weekend in Phoenix, Arizona, Bango suffered an injury during a mascot-participative skit. While standing on one basket's rim, Bango's right leg slipped through the hoop, and he fell on the rim. He then slipped further and fell through the basket entirely. Bango tore his ACL due to the fall and was unable to perform for the remainder of the 2008-09 season, periodically making appearances at games in a wheelchair.”
I exist but to serve.
@@merrileebearlakers fans are crazy.
Well there is the Salton Sea. Keep in mind too that basketball courts have a circle at mid-court so having a basketball in the logo makes it easy to incorporate on the floor.
Spurs fan since 84/85
If Wemby was paried with Alvin Robinson, would they break defensive records?
since 10 years after you! #GoSpursGo
The NBA loves the Spurs.
I knew this wasn't going to go well when she said "I don't like NBA logos having basketballs in them" when almost 2/3rds of the teams logos HAVE BASKETBALLS IN THEM lololol
LET'S GO I LOVED THIS VIDEO AND IM HLAD YOUR MAKING MORE
thank you so so much!!
"The New York Knicks...I've never heard of this team"
😭😭😭
The funny thing is that the Utah Jazz logo you saw is already somewhat outdated again. The black and white rebrand came in 2022 and was wildly unpopular (not seen in the logo was the third color: highlighter yellow). So they've already pivoted to using your favorite color purple, sky blue, and white starting in 2025.
Not me cheering because New Orleans finally won something... 😭
The Wizards logo actually got something to do with the Wizards. If you look at the monument together with a star, it looks like a wand
Hahaha, I love how you ended with “You should have added a basketball.” I'm a sports fan/ a fan of logos and you made me laugh watching this video, so thank you!
You should do another tierlist with the old nba logos
PLEASE rank the older 1990s-2000s NBA logos. they were actually so cool and had some character and uniqueness to them. sadly now all of these companies and sports teams have shifted to hyper simplistic logos and killed the creativity. loved the vid!
great day to be a spurs fan
Great video, I've been watching the NBA for 30 years. You should rate jerseys too. That'd be a blast.
The problem with the new clippers logo is it looks more like a cruise ship than a clipper.
Maybe in near future pls do the english premier league teams logo, just a suggestion 🙏
The pelicans, spurs, and hornets' logos being in here were the LAST ones i was expecting 😭
There was a league directive that required teams to incorporate a basketball in their logos. :) That's why a lot of the newer logos have basketballs.
I like your energy. You express yourself in entertaining ways. I'm going to go do something else now.
To be fair, most teams have alternate logos that are better than the primary logos
Great video. I Love ball but you opened my eyes to how lazy these organizations where when making logos
The wizards have what looks like a magic wand with the monument and the star on top. I consider that clever
The Trail Blazers pinwheel is an artists expression of basketball. The pinwheel represents a basketball game, with five lines on each side representing the five players on each team, and the curved lines representing the speed and movement of the game. It’s very Portland
As a Thunder fan, I think we have the absolute worst logo. I hope we get a redesign sooner rather than later
The Portland Trail Blazers insignia shows the 5 players on offense and 5 players on defense swirling around. And the LA Lakers were in Minnesota originally
Pelicans in S Tier is criminal
Nah it’s one of the best designed and coolest looking logos in the entire league, even though the team is not good they easily have one of the hardest logos
old ATL hawks logo could match that or even surpassed
Yeah the Milwaukee Bucks logo is bad ass. Not just because it’s my hometown team, but my kids cousin helped design the logo. Fun video!
As a Bucks fan, you didn't notice (or didn't point out) that the buck's neck/mane is shaped like an "M" for Milwaukee. Is that enough to bump it up to S??
Only clicked this video to see the Chicago Bulls deservedly get S tier and you can my imagine my surprise
Not even the best looking animal logo. Though I do agree it should be slightly higher because it’s the most iconic logo in basketball, definitely not S tier though
Have to admit, you were very generous
The origin of the Lakers name is that they were originally from Minneapolis and Minnesota is called the land of 10,000 lakes. I agree with most of these ranks and with most of the teams it’s like tell me your a basketball team without telling me you’re a basketball team
Love the bullshit explanation for why the Trail Blazers logo is a bunch of random shapes "The ten lines that you see in here that intersect, those ten lines represent five offensive players and five defensive players coming together in center court in competition"
Reminds me of the infamous Pepsi logo gravity pull lmao
Have you see the old logo of wizard
stay tuned for the nfl video :D
Im purple guy. And Raptors have way better logo like Raptors with ball. About Boston. Team is calling with S but tribes behind it calling with K
Should do the other leagues as well
Late to the comments, but i found it very funny you had the same criticizm of the thunder logo as Issac from the deep 3. He got clowned on for asking about it because thunder is a soundwave. But also, it would be cool to have a soundwave logo with okc made with the wavelength
The Hornets, Clippers (new) and Bucks logos all have hidden basketballs.
The Hawks logo will forever look like angry Pac-man to me now.
You talking about how every team has a basketball in it's logo made me realize how much I hate the basketballs in logos thing lol
how, they literally good.
Fun fact about the spurs logo, on the old logos and uniforms the spur replaces the “U” when written out
basketball
that's what i'm saying!
I have to agree with your selections, going to watch you rank NFL logos and subscribe!
The fact that she didn’t realize the Washington monument is supposed to represent a Wand as well but yet she says there’s not much wizardry 🤦🏽♂️not even a wizards fan but that logo is so creative
- The Wizards logo actually got something to do with the Wizards. If you look at the monument together with a star, it looks like a wand
- For Houston Rockets, the whole R is a rocket and the "blood" is the fire trail that usually goes behind every rocket. Also when the rocket launches, theres smoke going around it and thats the circle around the R
Her: "today we are gonna be rating the basketball logos"
Also her: "this is bad, because it reminds me of basketball"
Her: "Its Pheonix Suns and its a sun and a basketball, thats not very creative" - puts it in D
Also her: "I love the fact its a Golden State and they put the Golden State bridge in there," - puts it in A
I know you are not a basketball fan and Im not mad at you at all, but some of these ratings were just diabolical🤣
Here to echo the Wizard logo being a wand made of the Washington monument!
New Orleans Pelicans fan here, I absolutely love your ranking on the Pels. Instant subscriber ma'am :)
EDIT: Just watched the NFL video, and my Saints are placed high on that list too. Thanks!
The Lakers use to be in Minnesota, but never changed their name. Sort of similar to the Utah Jazz moving from New Orleans.
Ban people from talking about things that they know nothing about.
The tier list is actually decent for knowing literally nothing about basketball. Especially if you’re judging the logos on pure aesthetics alone.
Okay so you're banned for apparently not understanding the concept of the video.
@@mastod0n1 the concept sucks.
check out some of the older logos for some of these teams, they tend to be a lot more creative! damn modern designs
I saw this video somewhere saying the reason they start transitioning their logo to circular shape is because they wanted to have a cohesive branding throughout the league and i think thats pretty good idea if you consider the bigger picture instead of just each team.
putting the bulls logo behind the magics and golden state should be a crime 😂
I highly recommend that you do a 2000s version of nba logos. More than half of these logos if not all of them have been simplified. The older versions have everything you look for.
Omg as a basketball fan, it was very interesting and funny to hear your opinions on the logos!
nah i loved how critical you were 😂 so funny
As an Nba fan, this gave me an aneurysm. Great video
My two worlds collided. I got a huge dopamine rush when I saw all the tøp stuff in the back lol. Really enjoyed the vid, you're awesome!
Even though there are no lakes in Los Angeles, and music is illegal in Utah.
PLEASE do this but with retro logos! There are so many cool designs that just aren't being used right now
you should do the throwback logos you’ll like them 10x more
