I still remember being a kid and watching my parents VHS copy of Batman mostly because I remember the product placement hosted by Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck who informed me that I could not enjoy the movie without a Warner Brothers T-shirt , a Warner Brothers coffee mug, and a Warner Bros. ball cap.

I never fell for the speculator boom, I remember buying X-Force 1, first thing I did was rip off the polybag. I wanted to read it

I was between the ages of 9 & 12 during this time. I got suckered into buying a platinum edition of The Adventures of Superman #500 by a shady comic book store owner for $75.00. What’s sad is he told me it was the platinum edition for Superman #75. I remember thinking back then that the purchase would one day pay for my college. Nope!!! 😂😂😂

Kinda wish you went a little more in-depth on Batman getting his back broken. His replacement was basically a response to the edgier antiheroes popularized by Spawn.

Cover Gimicks and Trading Crads are best used as celebrating a new character's debut, an anniversary special for a long running character or a company milestone, old characters reaching a specific anniversar, or the beginning and end of an event series

Variants are modern day gimmick covers and used for most books that have a tiny bit of importance

Also another issue with deathmate was that neither company knew much about each others characters, how they worked, and what their powers were.

It feels like if you want to make a successful comic in this era they need to be indie mini series with high social media advertising, or make a webtoon.

Can you do a video about the great comic crash of 2022? The one that we are experiencing now?

That is a really interesting idea. However, since we're right in the middle of it, it's hard to have any real sense of perspective about it. Right now it seems to be driven by two things (to my eyes at least) :
      1. Inflation has hit disposable spending really hard. After hitting the gas station and grocery store, my customers just don't have much left for comics.
      2. Marvel and DC just aren't really coming up with books that engage fans. People are buying Batman and Spider-Man out of habit, but the level of excitement surrounding mainstream comics is the lowest I've seen it in years. The existential question is: what, if anything, is going to change to bring us out of the doldrums? I really hope there's a positive final chapter to this.

I don't remember a crash. Marvel and Dc were still pumping out a lot of comics. Even during bankruptcy, Marvel was still printing a lot of comics. We thought Dc might buy Marvel. Marketing for Batman was learned by watching what George Lucas did with Star Wars. Sales were based on what stores bought and here in the Baltimore area, Steve Geppi had to chain stores that bought a lot of copies of certain comics. Sometimes in the triple digits.

Actually, reboot season 3 made a direct response to comic edgier antiheroes too.

As a kid, it was Super Nintendo & Sega that I had a interest change away from comics

Yeah the 90s video game boom is kinda overlooked in this type of videos.

At 4min you said Ron Perelman bought Marvel 1986 for 46 mil, then again for 82.5 mil in 1989? Was not clear how you explained that part about New World Entertainment ownership...

So Big City Comics was not the first minority owned publisher founded by the Sims brothers?

You stated 1980 McFarlane was drawing spiderman. Think you meant 1990 :)

No, Todd McFarlane was definitely drawing The Amazing Spiderman in the 1980s starting with issue #298.
