Have not had much luck with $1 box but going to try again. A couple other things that do well that you didn’t mention are horror. War, war and weird things. Also comic related magazine horror titles sell well. And of course keys which u did mention. Keys keys keys. Certain artists sell well. Dave Steven’s. Bernie Wrigtson. Ditko. Strange. Great video. Liked the mesh of a discussion mixed with creating a tier list.
    As for How the Duck, there might be several reasons behind his popularity. There is a low issue count, speculation of him coming to the MCU, and nostalgia. People that are fans of his movie are most likely in their 40s now and might be hit with the nostalgia bug and have some disposable income to use to collect his entire series since the issue count is small.

    i think the appeal of howard the duck is that it very uniquely combines bronze age adventure with cartoonish humor.
    i'm surprised the simpsons is so low. their early issues were some of my all-time faves, especially the radioactive man and bartman spinoffs. for a while, simpsons was kinda mid, but in their later days, they did experiment with different art styles and random character one-shots that were pretty fun. the one thing from bongo i never see is futurama. it must've had pretty low print runs. also, i'm not a spongebob guy, but the art in that book always looked really cool.
    and i love archie, although i think far and away the best era for archie comics is late 80s/early 90s. the art was never better, the writing was a bit more mature, and they had a lot of really fun limited series at that time

      Same; it feels like DC's answer to UXM, with great writing and great art. The big difference as a collector is that the keys are way more affordable and still under-the-radar except for issue 2, as you mentioned. I'm not that big of a Deathstroke fan, so as much as I want to complete the run I'm not going to bend over for an overly pricey copy that I don't have much appreciation for....at the same time I don't want a low grade copy, either.

I'm sure we've all done it, but I know I've seen a book for sale, and quickly watched my willpower crumble as I bought the book for the asking price. But I was patient from 2020-2023, and in the final week of '23 I scored Clone Wars #1 (CGC 9.8) for less than half of what it was selling at just a couple years ago; and I came close to buying 9.6 consolation prizes in the last couple of years that were more expensive than what I paid for the 9.8 last month. I wonder how much of these sales preferences are regional. I have noticed a slowdown in Avengers and its big three (Cap, Iron Man, and Thor), though. Good for me cuz I'm not a seller.
    As for Howard, it's those damn later Gerber-less books that are hard to find. I don't even want to read them all that bad, it just wounds my completionist streak.

    I mainly look for power rangers, Vol 1&2 of captain America / ghost rider / punisher / Wonder Woman. Anything else such as supergirl, Howard the duck and other titles I look for specific books (keys or covers)

  • @soullesstaco9897
    @soullesstaco9897 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think Ghost Rider is amazing cause for the age its usually still affordable plus the run collectors for rider are die hards and will usually pick up extras cause the covers and story are awesome. Speaking about my self if I see it I buy it cause for what ever reason does not turn up as often as other stuff. Plus now I buy and sell collections see plenty of different stuff but hardly any 1st run of rider shows up. Same for Silver Surfer first 18 issues are always harder to come by but they are way more pricier than Ghost Rider. My PC is Surfer, Rider, Horror, and GGA type stuff. Every thing else I sell when I buy a collection. Your list is pretty spot on from my seller perspective down in Texas.

    Not surprised by Avengers/WCA. Even during the 2010-2018 era, over my 20+ years as a dealer, those books are dead weight. I think there’s something broader to be said about many team books as people who love *characters don’t want those books where hero A is only on a handful of pages, or sits out entire arcs.

    Some real surprises in that list for sure! Howard the Duck? Really? I'm also surprised to see Ghost Rider over ASM, and Green Lantern? He's cool and all, but I never would have suspected that book to sell so well for you. Maybe it's because you've attracted a GL community to your shop?
    And as a Canadian, I'm not sure how offended I'm supposed to be that Alpha Flight doesn't sell....though I guess deep down I already knew that!
    Cool video, thanks for sharing!

      I have a theory - cuz there's only 33 issues it's very easy to collect and complete the run so I think a lot of people want it because of how obtainable it is

    An interesting video. During various eras, Howard, GI Joe, and Star Wars would have been F tier. in the 80s, Punisher, Alpha Flight, West Coast, Excalibur and Cap would have been at least A-tier and even S-Tier. Times change and things move into and out of fashion. Cap was my main book for years and now I am tracking down Sub-Mariner. Who knew?

    If you can find them (at all), a comic that checks all the same humor boxes as Howard is ACG’s “Herbie, the Fat Fury.” I remember them fondly, although I have 0 issues (the ones I did have were coverless store rejects, so completely uncollectible).
