I have no issue with that comment of if you don’t like Bethesda games then it’s maybe not for you. I am saying within the gaming community they don’t keep that same energy for Zelda or from software. If you aren’t into those games then they are not 10’s and you won’t put 80+ hours into them. But no one ever says that about their games, they are generally praised
Same could be said for something like BG3, Elden Ring, or Zelda. If you like those types of genres these games are in, you will love these titles. But for those who aren't into niche CRPGs and D&D with BG3 for instance, you will probably find the challenging combat frustrating and it will probably not be for you. It's a bit strange how you phrased your comment to make it appear as if the game is just ok when in reality it depends on the taste. Again, if you are not into the particular niche a game cover, you will often not enjoy the game. This applies to Starfield and basically every other game.

Very excited to start this game tonight. Since I started school I've had a lot less time to play games, and I decided to let Starfield be the game I play and dive deep into. I'd rather play 1 game than not finish a ton of games. So, hearing you get what you put into it has me excited!
Honestly this has been one of my favorite reviews. Often times everyone has the same score and their points tend to overlap. Hearing a wide range of scores with statements that everyone agrees on but weigh differently person to person is intriguing. I can’t wait to see if this game is a 2/5 or 5/5 for me personally

The thing that I feel off about this game more than anything, like across the board, not just here, is that people say "I am on the way to finding my love for this game" or "I feel like I'm almost there to loving it", like they are hesitating on saying it's ok. Like they NEED to find a way to love it. I haven't seen people say stuff like that about any other game. And even weirder is that they say that after spending 40+ hours on the game. Like c'mon. If you don't love a single player game after 40 hours, then you might just not love it. There is no need to try to convince yourself otherwise. But again, SOOOO many reviewers have said this exact thing. Like why are they hesitating on just saying the game is alright, because I played it, and the game really is just ok. And I loved Skyrim. One of the only RPGs I spent like 300+ hrs playing.
Honestly, the wide range of scores across the Internet had me mildly concerned. But having listened to the review, I'm more sold than I already was, which is saying something. My favourite thing about Bethesda games is finding something I want to do, and RPing the shit out of it. I had 5 different Skyrim characters within the first 6 months because I wanted to try different things, and it was incredible. From this review, it sounds like I will end up having the same thing here. Can't wait for early access drop

From everything discussed it feels like this game is so massive that they all had very different experiences. So many others haven’t even gotten close to finishing the side quests. Everyone reviewing this is primarily just finishing the main quest. Why isn’t everyone doing reviews in progress? Instead they’re just slapping scores on it. That’s what’s going to make the continued conversation around this game so fascinating. We aren’t even talking about the discoveries yet. Discovering this game as a community is going to be special. Excited for tonight!!
That's why he shouldn't be reviewing Xbox games. I knew immediately weeks ago that he was going to use baldur's gate as the game that's going to be the game that makes him will it's not as good as this.
A lot of things that Blessing and Parris noted that aren't quiet where they need to be have been addressed my mods on PC. I''m glad they mentioned them here. They both noted that PC is the best expierence but some of these areas need to be addressed for their console players. I'm sure those things will be addressed in future patches and everything will come together. Some of Bethesda's most beloved games started out this way but became great games with community feedback.
Parris is the man but Blessing really did come across as having an agenda. I hate console wars and cannot wait for Spidey but I guarantee he won’t be as harsh on that game. It’s not his genre but listen to Gregg - 17 years pro reviewing. Sometimes I think he needs some coaching. Parris is so level and his delivery is excellent - great review and cannot wait for the game
@@davofidie6897 People just don't like when someone is negative about a game they like. My friends are like this too. I didn't like Cyberpunk, but they couldn't see the bad through their rose tinted glasses of CD Projekt Red. And I think its the same here with people either trying o justify their purchase or being fans of Bethesda
9:11 i think the comment of “my review will be like where the industry lands on it” rubbed me wrong. It was a wrong assumption but conveniently lines up with some reviews from his friends….ahem gamespot.
Can't compare bg3 to starfield. Both are different sub genres of rpg games. If you are to compare starfield to a similar game... compare it to Outer Worlds.
I didn't give a F about all the hype because I knew Bethesda was going to just make another boring POS game, I have game pass and I still don't want to waste my time playing this for free
I love how Blessings with his sense of entitlement got humbled by other reviewers. There are issue but there is fun to have. Also the fact that Blessings keeps brining up main mission makes it pretty clear he didn't play the game the right way.
Blessing was spot on here. The more I play Starfield (about 12 hours in so far) the more emersion-breaking it gets and the more frustrating the inventory system gets. Starfield is a bunch of loading screens be it in space or on the planets.I don't even feel like I am exploring or want to explore, its more just going from quest to quest because there is no real reason to explore in this unlike Skyrim, Fallout, Oblivion or Morrowind.
My biggest Starfield question: In terms of recruitable ship members, do they have varying big personalities? When I play this game, I want to build a crew of people I like on a personal level akin to something like One Piece and how Luffy recruits his crew. I don’t want to just fill slots on my ship because people fill certain roles.
I really, really love this review style. I never come to Kinda Funny for reviews because, for the longest time, they didn't review. If the reviews have been like this, I've been missing out. Count me in. Also, I know it's a long flight for Parris, but please make it happen more often if you can. Loved having him on there.
TLDR: don’t just mainline, role play (choose a style, don’t “jack of all trades”, you’ll get a chance for new styles in ng+), don’t try to do every single activity in a single play through
"We are going to be talking about this game for months to come" - Surprised to be watching this three weeks later and no one is talking about this game(that I am seeing/hearing). The gaming industry is too chaotic and needs to slow the F down.
FINALLY someone talks about the awful persuasion system. It is god awful in this game. By far the worst I have ever seen. It destroys the storytelling every single time.
I wish more places did this panel style review of a bunch of people discussing the game in detail for an hour. Makes for very informative videos and really goes over everything in the game.
Everyone's entitled to their OPINION, but Sony doesn't have and will NEVER have a "Starfield Killer" in MY opinion. ✌😊 And let's not forget that Bless is a STRONG Sony Pony! 😂
@@joypadbandit624 they may some day but they definitely have never made something of this scale. They probably won't, these games are hard to make and Sony hyper focuses on a different genera of games.
How can anyone judge a game 20 - 40 hours in with so much content? Imagine giving a number to Skyrim only 20 hours in. I agree with the impressions but a final score is difficult.
Sure, but not much different from the 7/10 from IGN and GameSpot either and a bit inflated by how they choose not to give review codes to quite a few outlets. In the long term, I don't think his opinion will be that rare a take. That being said, I'll probably really like the game. Will try to stick to the curated main missions and side missions as much as possible though.
There were plenty of bad/disappointing things from RDR2 tho. The biggest one for me was the lack of support for the multiplayer. Still liked the game overall, but it could have been soo much better if Rockstar just cared a little more.
I'm just so burned out on 'do what you want' / 'make your own story' games. We get so few narrative AAA games that aren't open world and I find it exhausting. Need more variety.
It's interesting how people are letting Starfield's flaws drastically affect its review score, but games like BotW or BG3, which also have obvious flaws, are still so highly regarded. BotW has bad enemy variety, poor performance, rain climbing is annoying, an underwhelming final boss, weapon durability is divisive, etc., but I'd still call it a 10/10 game and I think most would agree with me. BG3 has obvious flaws too, but it's probably my favorite RPG of all time at this point. In my 60 hours playing Starfield I can't say that any administrative RPG flaws have seriously hampered my experience more than in any other game. I can't think of a single RPG that doesn't have some level of annoying QoL/administrative BS that you'd rather not deal with. People just seem to be incredibly harsh on Starfield for some reason. I'm genuinely curious why other games seem to get a pass.
I think Starfield is revealing what gamers want to be served their gameplay or "wow moments" and which gamers want to make their own stories or role play. Bethesda made the game with the latter in mind, and some people are going to miss out on that.
@@TheAndyCortez I got you! Bro, my peek nerdiest moment was playing Elite Dangerous on an 120" Projector Screen with a split HOTAS I had attached to the arms of a big office chair. It was epic! I did that for about 6 months! 🤣🤦🏻♂️ Urgh... What a d**k! (I don't regret it at all! 👊🏻)
This was an excellent review roundtable, and it was especially great to see Parris in-studio! And I get the feeling that the universal biggest gripes ya'll & other reviewers seem to have with the game - clunky menus, convoluted inventory management, nondescript secondary NPCs, poor/confusing area maps, etc - will be corrected by the Bethesda modding community posthaste.
I totally understand the BG3 comparisons, but I also don't think they're fair to Starfield. It's not a D&D game. They're both great games and you should try both. 2023 is an amazing year for gaming! 😁
Glad you all had mostly a great experience - with some caveats. The only comment I would add - based on what I've seen in the trailers, and in subsequent review videos is that the character design/animation seriously looks like 2013-grade results to me. I assume the game is better IRL, but every cutscene looks like I'm watching a Disney animatronic. Once again, I assume that the results are better in-game, but I don't understand why it's so poor quality in their PR (especially when they tried so hard to say how great the character-creation is).

I love the way they all do there own reviews
Love the fact everyone has a different story. No game is like this space wise. BG3 is amazing but this is another one we can all enjoy.
well except if you only have a playstation
Parris is the man but Blessing really did come across as having an agenda. I hate console wars and cannot wait for Spidey but I guarantee he won’t be as harsh on that game. It’s not his genre but listen to Gregg - 17 years pro reviewing. Sometimes I think he needs some coaching. Parris is so level and his delivery is excellent - great review and cannot wait for the game
Yeah blessing in general is bad at reviews. It sucks when he is the lead reviewer.
@@Garoth4582 if blessing gave it a 5/5 would you like the review ? are you mad he didnt love it ?
@@davofidie6897 People just don't like when someone is negative about a game they like. My friends are like this too. I didn't like Cyberpunk, but they couldn't see the bad through their rose tinted glasses of CD Projekt Red. And I think its the same here with people either trying o justify their purchase or being fans of Bethesda
9:11 i think the comment of “my review will be like where the industry lands on it” rubbed me wrong. It was a wrong assumption but conveniently lines up with some reviews from his friends….ahem gamespot.
Have Parris review more games the dude is a legend and even though he is on the Xcast he gave us an honest review, much respect!
Paris needs to come to the studio more often
I can listen to Parris all day, i can even listen to him and review tetris and it still be good.
Can't compare bg3 to starfield. Both are different sub genres of rpg games. If you are to compare starfield to a similar game... compare it to Outer Worlds.
Andy!!! My hype started to say a bit hearing the QOL stuff you brought it back to 100.
Awesome review!! Absolutely loved seeing Paris in studio:))). Sept 6th can’t come soon enough!!
I didn't give a F about all the hype because I knew Bethesda was going to just make another boring POS game, I have game pass and I still don't want to waste my time playing this for free
You don't like BGS games... why do you even exist??
Happy that it seems it is a good game. I’m basically trying to go with the same angle Andy is.
My biggest Starfield question:
In terms of recruitable ship members, do they have varying big personalities?
When I play this game, I want to build a crew of people I like on a personal level akin to something like One Piece and how Luffy recruits his crew. I don’t want to just fill slots on my ship because people fill certain roles.
I really, really love this review style. I never come to Kinda Funny for reviews because, for the longest time, they didn't review. If the reviews have been like this, I've been missing out. Count me in.
Also, I know it's a long flight for Parris, but please make it happen more often if you can. Loved having him on there.
Their "in review" series is really enjoyable for film reviews. They've reviewed almost every franchise out there, it's really enjoyable.
Really excited for this game. Though honestly dreading the console warrior bs that’s going to follow for the next couple months.
Parris you missed a perfect pun at 5.35 , you should have said "its kinda funny" .... ha ha
This is KFG Vol. 2, Episode 194 (Episode 446 overall)
TLDR: don’t just mainline, role play (choose a style, don’t “jack of all trades”, you’ll get a chance for new styles in ng+), don’t try to do every single activity in a single play through
Parris' thoughts made the most sense after now playing over 12 hours of the game. The game is great so far.
Was really looking forward to Parris’ review on this one. Awesome job!
Love the open convo type of review style guys, appreciate you all
I wish more places did this panel style review of a bunch of people discussing the game in detail for an hour. Makes for very informative videos and really goes over everything in the game.
"this is a nerdy ass RPG" -greg from kinda funny its why iam hyped!!! for starfield
props to bless for his review, straight up about it without holding back at all. Respect
Agree tough to go against the consensus, but it is his opinion and he should say what he wants.
Everyone's entitled to their OPINION, but Sony doesn't have and will NEVER have a "Starfield Killer" in MY opinion. ✌😊
And let's not forget that Bless is a STRONG Sony Pony! 😂
@@joypadbandit624 they may some day but they definitely have never made something of this scale. They probably won't, these games are hard to make and Sony hyper focuses on a different genera of games.
Parris, Tim, Bless, Greg and Andy thanks for the review I seriously feel like going into the game with my expectations in a better place.
Blessing “is this legal?“ (to Tetris Effect coming to Xbox) gives it a 3. Shocker.
How can anyone judge a game 20 - 40 hours in with so much content? Imagine giving a number to Skyrim only 20 hours in. I agree with the impressions but a final score is difficult.
Blessing 3/5... ouch. Much much lower than the 87 average that the game is currently sitting at on Metacritc.
90-91 for pc
Sure, but not much different from the 7/10 from IGN and GameSpot either and a bit inflated by how they choose not to give review codes to quite a few outlets. In the long term, I don't think his opinion will be that rare a take.
That being said, I'll probably really like the game. Will try to stick to the curated main missions and side missions as much as possible though.
@@tylerisse5120nope already down to 88 😂
@idakev most reviews I've seen are high 80s only ign and GameSpot and 6 of the other ign outlets gave it 9-10
Wait till the rest of the industry gets all the reviews out it's gonna drop fast
Before anyone gets upset at their opinions, remember that they didn't like Red Dead Redemption 2. Sometimes they're wrong.
Hahah 😂 I forgot. What a good game though
What a massive L on their part
There were plenty of bad/disappointing things from RDR2 tho. The biggest one for me was the lack of support for the multiplayer. Still liked the game overall, but it could have been soo much better if Rockstar just cared a little more.
@@keanubredenkamp3776 I guess every game could be better but I would put that pretty dang close to a master piece.n
@@westinbye the story isn't everything for me, but I still really liked the game.
The energy in this room feels powerful
I'm just so burned out on 'do what you want' / 'make your own story' games. We get so few narrative AAA games that aren't open world and I find it exhausting. Need more variety.
I’m an audio listener but just had to tune in for this one. Great job Parris and co.!
Other games are good.
Thanks to Parris was a good review especially for series s
I think Starfield is revealing what gamers want to be served their gameplay or "wow moments" and which gamers want to make their own stories or role play. Bethesda made the game with the latter in mind, and some people are going to miss out on that.
At 1:14:42 - I think Andy is thinking of Elite Dangerous. Which, by the way, on a HOTAS control system... Is fricking incredible!!!!
THATS THE ONE!!!!!!! i couldnt think of it lol thank u
Props to Paris for allowing Andy to finish his thoughts out
Agreed, v considerate. Greg on the other hand didn’t have much restraint, taking up a ton of space
The game isn't even officially out yet and it already has mods lol
Love the passion in them. Well 3 of them
such a fun review to listen to, excited to play the game!
I totally understand the BG3 comparisons, but I also don't think they're fair to Starfield. It's not a D&D game.
They're both great games and you should try both. 2023 is an amazing year for gaming! 😁
So blessing give it the same score as Sonic frontiers 😬 Can't wait to play this game!
20:53 this sentence is hilarious 😂
