I have been doing judo for a long time (5+ years), frankly speaking I suck at Judo, I didn't win that much competitions, Lately I went for wrestling because I had free time, I could do any Judo move I wanted with almost full efficiency (especially uchimata) against my opponents.. the reason is that I think wrestling guys don't really know how to respond to Judo moves, Judo moves can't be stopped by force or pushing back!
Shen Shy It comes from none of the stuff you said, and Ju does not mean what you said it means. Jū means Gentle, and Dō means way. Judo came from Jujutsu and before that, Chinese/Mongolian forms of grappling like Shuai Jiao.
Shen Shy First of all, clearly, you don’t know the language because you got it fucking wrong. Don’t show your credentials because you’ve got no way of proving them.
Shen Shy Can you provide proof to any of your statements? Also, Judo came from Jujutsu, which was NOT a wrestling art and incorporated every kind of technique. Also, I don’t know why you’re talking about kenpo when the topic is Judo.
Thanks guys for all the comments. My son had an incredible year and just recently won the Junior US Open Judo Championships. He is currently ranked number one in the nation in his age\weight division. He starts high school next week and is really looking forward to wrestling season. Stay tuned for more wrestling videos!
I'm a judoka myself. I've grappled against wrestlers a couple of times, too. This kid is great! He made it look so effortless. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
@mfxoodist - Calling my son names, and saying things like if he entered a judo competition he would get his ass f_____ is totally not cool. Please have some respect! If you did a little research or followed USA Judo then you would know that my son is a multi-time State & National Judo champion, and that he recently took gold at the Jr. Pan American Championships, AND is currently the #1 ranked junior player in the Nation (Juvenile B - 50Kg)!
Davi Stanesco , just type in 'Anthony Igne' in TH-cam search, there are quite a few videos of my son, wrestling, judo, weightlifting. Enjoy and thanks for watching.
I enjoyed your video... I can see judo seeping from his techniques... I got into Judo after H.S. and joined the USJA. I had so much fun, and wished I could have incorporated judo to my wrestling just like i incorporated wrestling in my judo. Two fantastic sports!
Very good to see this young competitor mix his wrestling with Judo. I have a back ground in Judo under Hayward Nishioka. I've cross trained into Catch Wrestling under my my current Coach. I also have an extensive background in Kung Fu. I would highly recommend any Judo player cross train into wrestling learn as much as possible. If you can find Catch Wrestling, it's even far superior to wrestling. With Judo and Wrestling you will be well rounded.
@@jinwong9425 Hi. I haven't seen Sensei Nishioka in a while. Very good Instructor and good person. Was Judo Gene Le Bell there too? I know he was there training and teaching till the early 90's. Gene him self told me. Both Hayward and Gene are long time friends.
what the!? did the judo kid just doing no-gi ippon seoi nage!? also those take down and pin, and the transition was beautiful!! damn he was so talented!! he'll became a scary judoka in the future.
I heard Ronda Rousey say that the Judo players who missed the team at the Olympic trials would just go enter a wrestling tournament and destroy everyone. I had to see it for myself, and goddamn was she right.
This kid is very talented it takes a lot of practice to implement judo into American folk style wrestling. At my high school during the summer i was training for judo to be used in wrestling which is working very well by the way. But your son has damn near perfected it in my book.
Mr Tude you must be so pround of your son. l have a daughter who is a national champion at judo and I watch in awe at every comp. can only image you feel the same. Great use of drop seio nage.
@19thaman79 a lot of what you've said is true, but there are some things that must be elucidated. Judo and Wrestling are two arts who developed alone independent of each other, whereas bjj and sambo are two arts directly derived from Judo. So, in other words, wrestling and judo have some similar techniques while sambo and BJJ have techinques absorbed from another art(Judo in this case).
@Supersmurf62, my son is currently a freshmen at Bishop Alemany High School. Wresting season is over but he will be back next season, most likely at 112's. he wrestles for fun, as Judo is his passion! He is currently training hard and preparing for the California State Judo Championships in San Fran and upcoming Judo Nationals this summer.
Mr. Tude. Your son is amazing. At such a young age, he is so coordinated and skilled at utilizing strategy and center of balance over bigger and stronger opponents. He is a beast!!!
That Anthony Igne kid is really good! Kudos! Does he have a diverse style? I knew two wrestlers (both of them ranked opponents) growing up who were also judoka. They had trouble with my style, because I didn't lock up, kept my feet moving and shot low at a high frequency. I was good with throws, but I don't like to "punch with a puncher," as they say in boxing. I thought I knew why this was effective, but really understood it when I learned judo later on. I think I would have been frustrated with someone like me. Haha! Anyway, all that is to say, he's a great wrestler, and I hope he also knows how not to use judo. What is he up to now? Anybody know?
pardon me for asking but can u not get in mount in wrestling... im joining my hs's wrestling team but i didnt wrestle last year because i was doing bjj and judo...btw nice throws
@19thaman79 And sorry if i don't make myself very clear in my comments. English is not my native language so i have a hard time writting big texts. And by the way, i'm a BJJ purple belt under Leozinho Vieira back here in Brazil. Are you a practicioner too?
Great technique from that young athlete, very nice Judo throws taking advantage of how many wrestlers push too much. I would like to offer one piece of advice to him on how to finish that Quarter Nelson,if instead of driving the opponent over from the same side he has the Nelson on, he circled the head and pried him over from the opposite side he would find himself in a vastly superior pin, that is tighter and much more stable. Goodluck and if you want I could make vid that finish if you want.
Nice job kid! Look up Eric Fajardo wrestling FILA ! 1st time doing Greco roman wrestling and takes a second upsetting someone from the u.s. World team. Eric Fajardo was also a judoka 6x judo national champ! Very impressive college wrestler for Columbia university!
Thanks for the comment @bigollameo. This is my son Anthony back from back in the day. He's been training\competing in both wrestling and judo since he was 8-years old. He wrestled all through high school and definitely could have gone on to wrestle in college if he chose to, but judo was always his passion. He's 20 now and a sophomore in college, and is on the number one collegiate judo team in the Nation…San Jose State University Spartans.
@MrTude His balance and timing are great. From a wrestling perspective he still has some things to learn but as a Freshman he should be far ahead of the pack. I predict a State for Sophomore year and placing Jr. Year provided his coaching staff is good.
@MrTude your son has a bright future if he is still applying his judo this well to wrestling. Check out Max Schneider up in Illinois; that kid became a state champion caliber wrestler almost immediately due to his judo in a really good wrestling state. he'll have his choice of athletic scholarship when he graduates high school. I hope your son achieves as much!
@ninjaworshipper He drove the kid straight down on his forehead. You would have been banned from this tournament and possibly a few upcoming in Judo. Ippon seoi nage is a throw that elevates the opponent (not drives them directly down), and forces them to land on the flat of their back, not the face.
sombody told the last kid he wrestled to keep their arms back so he couldn't throw them.....HOWEVER I LOVED THIS KID!!! awesome to see a Judoka taking down wrestlers lmao
@MrTude Nice to see more Judoka's mixing it up with wrestling and cross training with wrestling> wrestlers could learn some things for Judo as well as Judo from wrestling
0:26 the kid flys head first into the floor haha is the floor even padded? it doesn't look like it.. Kid is good, he used the force of the attacker's grip, quickly gets on the inside for the flip. using the momentum to perform the move, allowing the attacker to lunge himself for the throw. When he grows up his going to be really good at Judo, that combined with wrestling is going to give him really good take down defense.
@19thaman79 About that pankration influence, let's take fencing as example. Japanese and European fencing have a lot of things in common, but none of them took influence on the other. Since fencing is also a martial art, it applies perfectly to my point as well.
i wouldn't use judo throws in wreslting a lot, you may end up throwing them but if someone quick enough they can easily get back up and score a takedown
Why there has been many successful college wrestlers DIV 1 with Judo Experience John Kadings NCAA Max Schneider IL state title seen him on the Judo mats >Steve mocco held national titles in judo and wrestling >Justin flores state wrestling champ & Olympic Judo team and travis lee the list goes on if it gives him a edge go for it.
There are great judo throws in wrestling. I did alot of them myself but isn't the most common take downs. They are risky if you are not a master of them so most try them a couple times and they don't work so they give up on them. That is the biggest flaw with wrestling guys do what works instead of learning more moves. If you watch top level guys they all do the same stuff.
Nice timing, good job on the coaching. "right there do you feel it" loved it. You can watch my wrestler, Bjj, vs. a legit Judo player. ME! haha. enjoy!
@19thaman79 Assuming that pankration theory is valid, Comparing Judo newaza with the Indian jiu-jitsu is like comparing the car with the wheel. The indian jiu-jitsu is WAY more primitive than Judo's Newaza, whereas Judo and BJJ are visible very alike. Further, Judo and BJJ parentage is historically documented.
i have to admit! this kidd is da shit for his age!! i wrestle varsity 135! and he has good timing with his shoulder throws and he could be state champ with that hard work
he played them so easily for that drop seoi nage, get them pushing and boom, their are done. i love that throw. im a green belt in the usjf and im almost brown d: got a while though lol
Judo and Wrestling are an excellent combo.

Yeah ikr ippon seio nage is not a easy move
TeamsterLocal282 NYC/Long Island It’s a drop knee seoi nage.
