Alpharad did a livestream within the past month of beating Emerald with the Pokemon Strategy guide, and it listed an ineffective team as: Swellow, Ninjask, Gyrados, Crobat, Xatu, Salamance. Maybe it could be interesting to do a monotype gauntlet with a "ineffective" team.

You should do a gauntlet challenge as some of the iconic trainer types. Look up some lists of pokemon they usually have, maybe add some flavourful fillings to get to a whole team, and then do a run as like, a tuber, a magma grunt, a pokefan, a hex maniac, etc. I'd keep to the scrubby early game levelig fodder to make it interesting, because i'd imagine doing it as an ace trainer or a maniac would be rather easy :D
The timing of this video is perfect, I almost beat 2 e4 members with a mostly Rotom team (hard mode everything, bag wipe, no hms taught but all obtained, gen 1-8, regular run with megas and z moves)

How about somesthing like a legendary only challange (mythicals and ultra beasts are allowed)? Where you start with only 1 which cant be fused or mega.
If you catch a pokemon that can fuse or mega it's perfectly ok to use though.

Challenge idea (if this isnt a thing already): Gen specific pokemon only
Eg
A run where you can only use pokemon introduced in gen 1, pokemon newly introduced in gen 2, so on and so forth
Any pokemon that gained pre evolutions in future gens could be used in a given challenge, but evolutions of the pokemon cant be used (So in a gen 1 solo run you could go munchlax into snorlax, but you couldnt go rhydon into rhyperior, just as an example)
Ok i realise after thinking about this how unclear it is so im gonna explain it better here
If a pokemon gained a pre evolution after it was introduced in a later gen, the pre evolution can be used in the challenge, but maybe you could make it so you can't battle with that pokemon until it evolves into the stage you need it to be (Using munchlax as an example again, you could hold onto it until it becomes a snorlax)
If a pokemon gained an evolution after it was introduced, it cannot be used in the current gen (Rhydon could be used in a gen 1 but rhyperior can't)
In the generation where a pokemon's pre evolution was introduced, you cant use the evolution (So you could only use munchlax in a gen 4 challenge, not snorlax)
Regional variants can only be used in their respective gen (So kanto meowth gen 1, alola meowth Gen 7, galar meowth gen 8)

It is not his go-to strategy and quite unreliable, so I do not mind.
