  • This video is about checking-in Brompton for air travel using Samsonite Stryde Glider. I love my Brompton and I take it wherever I travel domestic or overseas. My Brompton traveled to New York, Honolulu, Tokyo, and London.

Thank you! I picked this suitcase up beforehand thinking it would just about fit. Your video confirms that. :)

That FRAGILE sign will make them want to throw it😁

I hope I can find one of these suitcases on sale, because the regular price is very high. Thank you for this video👍

For the bikepacking and camping enthusiasts concerned with weight and volume, pack your Brompton (or clone) into the following:
    1. IKEA DIMPA bag, cheap and easy to replace. Folded and packed into very little space, unlike regular luggage.
    2. Cut-to-size cardboard sheets for some protection and rigidity, sourced before packing, discarded at destination. No need to carry around extra weight, unlike regular luggage.
    3. Large trash bag to separate the bicycle from other items stuffed in together from getting greasy or dirty.
    4. Lightweight foldable trolley so you can truck the entire package around, optional since you can lug a bulky bag of about 15kg around on your shoulders if you prefer to do that. Also folded and packed into little space, unlike regular luggage.

That's brilliant ideas! I was thinking about what to do with the suitcase after landing the destination. Thanks!

@@hideki.yamane , glad you think so. This is not originally my idea. I learned this from others who do bike packing and touring with their Bromptons and this is how they transport their bicycles for air/bus/train travel. It's up to the individual how much weight they want to cut, so you can just do step 1 with 2x IKEA DIMPA bags and stuff clothing and other soft items to pad the bicycle. I would go with at least steps 1 to 3. If you want to find out more, you can search youtube for how to pack a Brompton for travel and this method will show up.

Thanks Hideki for doing this video. I bought a Stryde 2 large for my Brompton because of it. (Didn't get the color I wanted although did get it on sale.) I looked at all the cases and options for flying, but frankly this had the most positives/least negatives and is pretty cost-effective. There's a Stryde III out now but it's really expensive and even slightly larger.

So, the "large model" is the one to get, not the medium?

    • @g.mcca.1924
      @g.mcca.1924 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@GlobalAdventurer Believe so, I got the large and it fits just right. The medium, I suspect, although I don't have it, would be too small.

Don’t release the air. The tires run 105-110 psi. Aircraft pressurization is around 9psi, so the percentage change is negligible.

Also German Firm: B&W makes a similar black, sturdy box fit for a Brompton (plus other model boxes, for the same purpose). And with a more safe system for locking the box than a zip. I don't know how the price compares? And it has also an extra "Security Band" on the outside. But my model, round clamps are fixed in the end, not to be lost during handling, and I have used my box without removing them during transport. But having a long version seat post I have to remove both seat post and saddle before packing. I have tried to buy a standard length, titanium seat post for a test, to see if I'm able to put it inside my box without having to removing anything, as I think I have seen done from a picture? 🤔

yes, but I believe this case is oversized luggage as you are allowed 62 inches total

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188

@@philberard5649 It may be the case, and it is rather heavy/sturdy! I bougth it for travels from Denmark to Malta (My wife didn't agree, as they ride in the wrong side on narrow roads!) but to there we just have a generous weigth limit, which could be met with two pieces of luggage.
