      100% - The problem with shoe reviews is you can only talk about "bouncy foam good!" a certain amount of ways/times. So by comparing against other shoes and providing buying guides gives people a reference to something they might already have experience with or at least have a point of comparison.

      I agree! Nowadays it can be hard with all the different models brands have to understand where exactly a shoe would fit in hypothetical rotations or to which knwon model it compares. I always watch the end segment even the few times I don't care about the particular shoe reviewed

    I just got the Glycerin Max to replace my Superblast Gen 1 which just rolled over 800km. Initial reaction is that the Glycerin Max is supremely comfortable, especially the upper. It is however very heavy. My US 10.5 weighs 330g (11.6 oz), thats 80g heavier than my Superblast gen 1. Also, I am a mid-foot striker and take shorter strides. So, the shoes felt quite firm and I wasn't getting any return for the extra weight. I experimented with changing the running style, and it became clear that the shoes really come alive when you are heel striking and then rolling from heal to toe and taking longer strides. When striking the heel, or when walking in them, the Glycerin Max is quite a bit softer than the Superblast, but when mid-foot striking they feel about the same barring the weight difference. So, for my style of running, the Superbast was a far better shoe, and I will return this and get the new Superblast 2, as they have improved the upper in the v2.

    Kofuzi, I believe the Hyperion Max is no longer being produced though there are probably greatly discounted pairs available. The Hyperion 2 is its heir apparent and I love it. I’m also enjoying the Hyperion Max 2 which is a speedier, lighter and less plush shoe which I find great for long runs with goal marathon pace miles. The roll geometry works well for my mechanics and the foam-while on the firmer side at first- softened up quickly and somehow was very kind and protective to my feet even on my first run.

    Had to return mine due to some pretty bad rubbing on the medial side of the shoe. Seems like an issue a lot of people are having from what I've seen on Reddit and other TH-cam reviews. Picked up the Puma MagMax at 40% off around the same time as I ordered the Glycerin Max and it has been really fun to run in so far.

    Ok so, I 100% agree... this is the brooks max cushion shoe we've been looking for. The ghost was always a bit firm for me, but these are good. I keep these to recovery or shorter runs. Haven't gotten a true long run in them though. That's TBD

  • @WhatMatterstoMatt

    Brooks has been slowly coming around. I tried a run in the ghost 16 hoping that would work for me but could not bring myself to actually buy it. I tried the ghost max out for a run, was a bit nicer but still not convinced. Same thing happened with the glycerin 21. This shoe seems like it could be the one. Something exciting coming from brooks that does not feel like an all out “experiment shoe” from the Blueline lab and more of a staple shoe in their lineup

      Sometimes, I take it as a signal that the brand isn’t confident about the shoe.

F top 10 age grouper in the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 (4:17) and feel that race shoes really helped-albeit neither very high stack super squishy type, nor extremely aggressive race shoes. The former would have slowed me down, the latter might not have been as kind to my body. You might consider the Endorphin Pro version I used if any are left on sale, but v4 is very good as well.

    I have the Glycerin 20 GTS . I disagree with your assessmemnt of it being firm rather than cushy. When I first bought the shoe I did find it a bit firm . But after about 30 miles it broke in nicely, having a nice cushy feel on the downside and a springy feel on the recvoery side. I love that shoe and it still feels the same after a year of use. I did wonder if you compared the Gycein M ax to the New Balance More X v4. It is the pkushest shoe that I have run on except for one of my trail shoes. I think it would compare to the max even though it doesn't have the stack height. Also, I'm an overpronater on my left foot but found that because the More X v4 has a wide paltform it was so stable that it compensated for my overponation. Did the glycerin max provide that sort of stability? Lastly, I want ot praise Brooks for their innovation becuase they are typically viewed by reviewers as being boring and conservative. I have the Aurora BL and it is a fantastic shoe. It is so comfortable that I picked up a second pair for a substantial discount becuase Brooks is discontinuing it. Keep up the reviews.

    Another great review, your reviews have always been spot on for my preferences and with that I take Glycerin Max foam to be cushy. Hi Ko! Sounds that overall it's a little like the Triumph 22. Do you think there is a justification to use a peba foam in max shoes or that Brooks' and Puma's choice is better? And - we see that Puma stoped using peba in racing shoes, whats the logic? So, basicly I'm asking about foams... whic is bettet when especialy on max

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the way you are looking at it may be unnecessarily narrow.
      Peba is great. Do I love the way it’s used in the Triumph 22? Not really. And thats not because of the foam. It’s because of the geometry and volume of foam used. (Although, it could be partially due to the foam. Not all Peba is created equal)
      Puma isn’t using peba (at least not in the flagship race product currently), but that doesn’t make it inferior. I’d take the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 over the NB SC Elite 4. And that’s not just because of the presence or absence of Peba. There’s also the carbon fiber plate thickness and position within the foam that does a lot.
      And this can work the other way around too. People love to say dramatic things like “EVA is ded”. But the Mach 6 is one of my favorite daily trainers. And it’s supercritical EVA, if I’m not mistaken.

      So I felt like Glideride Max could have been the best max cushion shoe of the year. It then I tried Mag Max
      And then I tried Glycerin Max
      They’re all excellent examples of the genre. But the Glycerin Max is the squishiest for me

    • @paulmulks
      @paulmulks หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kofuzi Thanks Mike. I have heard a few people say that while the Glycerin is nice and soft it feels very bulky on foot, whereas the Glideride not so much? I'm looking for a possible option for a 100 mile Ultra i have next year. It's on the trails, but the course is made up of hard compact dirt paths, so trail shoes are not normally needed. I really need to try them both on but it's almost impossible to find that Glideride in a shop here in the UK 😖

    On stats alone, the new Hyperion Max 2 is very different than the first Hyperion Max. And the Hyperion 2 is most similar to the first version of the Hyperion Max you show.

      I have both shoes you mention and they are quite different from one another, but also from any predecessors. I’ve had all the predecessors of--including the former Hyperion Tempo of which the Hyperion 2 is the apparent successor. But I highly recommend checking them out in person rather than based on stats. The midsoles are very different. I’m a big fan.

    Just wanted to know your opinions. I am currently training for a marathon and I wanted a pair of shoes for my longer runs (around 15 miles and above). My problem is my feet supinate and the rubber on the outside of the shoe tends to get destroyed easily. Also, the outer side of my foot tend to get very painful on shoes with harder midsoles. In a performance and durability aspect, will the Glycerin Max be better for me or novablast 4? Thank you!

    • @paulmulks
      @paulmulks หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glideride Max! It has "Guidesole" tech to help keep your feet moving in a straight line. Also has a "Max stack" so will be fantastic for marathon training for those longer efforts. It is not a race shoe so wouldn't recommend for speed work etc... Hope that helps

    I have been using the BGM as a daily trainer for close to 2 weeks now, and unfortunately I do not get along with this shoe at all. I feel like I am actually fighting the shoe. Absolutely no energy return, if anything it just absorbs effort. This is borne out by my times on my standard route, which is typically 6% longer than in my previous daily trainers at the same average HR. I also do not find them very soft at all (midfoot striker). I feel the upper is just enormously overbuilt, some very lightweight uppers (like Alphafly) are more comfortable to me. And here in AU the price of the BGM is almost the same as an Alphafly!
