Peerkangai Kootu and Thuvayal by Chef Sunder | Ridge Gourd recipe | Recipecheckr

  • We have 2 dishes with one vegetable today and that vegetable is Peerkangai(Ridge gourd). When making kootu, we'll make a thuvayal with remaining skin. So, We are going to make two dishes without wasting the vegetable. This Peerkangai is very rich in fiber. And the skin is also rich is fiber. And very healthy. Usually first day, you make Kootu and you can make thogayal on same day or keep it in refrigerator and make It on next day. We need to soak some dal as pre-preparation. After that, it'll take only 10 to 15 minutes of cooking.

    Here are the ingredients for this Kootu and Thogayal
    Peerkangai Kootu
    Ridge Gourd (Peerkangai) - 2 nos
    Bengal gram dal - 1 tbs
    Farm beans (Mochaikottai) - 1 cup
    Moong dal - 1 cup
    Groundnut oil - 3 tbs
    Cumin seeds - ¼ tsp
    Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    Red chillies - 2 nos
    Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
    Asafoetida - ¼ tsp
    Salt - As per taste
    Coriander leaves - few
    For Grinding
    Grated coconut - 1 cup
    Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
    Green chillies - 2 nos
    Peerkangai Thuvayal
    Groundnut oil - 4 tsp
    Urid dal - 1 tbs
    Red chillies - 3 nos
    Tamarind - 1 small lemon size
    Grated coconut - 3 tsp
    Asafoetida - ¼ tsp
    Salt to taste

    Koottu is novel idea of mixing with chana dal and beans.we also add roasted sesame powder while making chatni with peel and little bit of jaggery. It gives nice nutty flavour.but koottu looks is very attractive.👌👌👌👏👏👏

    Sir, moong dal is to be added as raw soaked or it has to be boiled. Do one need to grind it?
