    Thanks for finding my video and pressing play!
    In this video I fly on my first ever Boeing 737-MAX. For a short time, LOT is “proving” its new aircraft on the London route from Warsaw. So, naturally, I wanted to go and check out a MAX and find out what all the fuss is about.
    LOT is one of the oldest airlines still operating in the world today (founded 1929) and I’ve flown with them about half a dozen times before. They’re cheap but pleasant to fly with, and in this video I try their European business class.
    Business class within Europe is rarely anything spectacular, but I know a lot of commenters get hung up on the seats - the same as economy, with a blocked middle seat and usually a drop down table to share. Many people might point to the USA as a place where business class on flights of this length is better because the seat is. I don’t agree! In this video, I get access to the Singapore Airlines Lounge where I can get a proper cooked breakfast - it’s definitely several ranks higher than something like an Admirals’ Club, and remember that domestic business and first class within the USA doesn’t grant you lounge access anyway in and of itself. On most flights of 2h30 or under, you won’t get fed a proper meal in the USA. It’s just snacks and drinks. I get an impressive brunch thrown in here courtesy of LOT. It’s well-portioned and the quality was very good. I’d go so far as to say on the basis of this meal alone, LOT probably ranks in the top third of European business classes.
    The Boeing Sky cabin on our aircraft is excellent - I really like the mood lighting and the use of soft shapes. Not only is the cabin bright and airy, it’s also very quiet. Just check out the takeoff footage to see how little noise from outside gets in.
    Overall, a first-rate experience for travelling within Europe and I can definitely recommend it. I can also recommend Poland as a weekend destination; it’s a very underrated country, inexpensive and intriguing. It also has a large number of top-rank hotel rooms available for very little money, plus the Poles have probably the finest hospitality and service culture in Europe. At least, I think so.

    Let me know what you think of the new 737-MAX in the comments!
    Edit: I mis-identified RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath. It’s actually (former) RAF Stations Woodbridge and Bentwaters in that clip. Thanks for the correction.
    For those of you waiting on my promised Q+A video, I’ll be filming this on Friday and uploading in the week beginning 5th February!

      The 737 MAX is the start of a new generation of boeing aircraft, being quieter, faster and more efficient.
      This is a sign of great aircraft to follow such as the 777-X and the 787-10.

    European "business class" with coach seats 3-across (center-seat blocked), nope. But, the a/c must've had that "new plane" smell. Warsaw is a really interesting and walkable city with so many great activities, cafes, museums, etc. I like the Rialto Hotel, a short walk from the main train station. Another fine trip report from Paul, thank you.

    • @TheMasterhomaster
      @TheMasterhomaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dianne Williamson the 3 seats across with center seat blocked is the same in North America. I think this is standard for for all single aisle seating for business class. This doesn't make sense to me. That center seat is a waste of space if they literally block it. Why don't they just install bigger business class seats: 2 seats instead of 3, so 4 in one row, which leaves more space for a more luxurious business class section in these single aisle planes. Otherwise business class is the same as economy but with slightly more room and with food.

    • @Paul_Lucas
      @Paul_Lucas  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The standard in North America is generally for a fixed business class cabin in a 2+2 configuration.
      The reason European airlines go for a convertible cabin is because business class just means something a lot different here. Basically, in North America, and particularly the US, you won’t ever see an empty seat in domestic business/first class. Why? Because most of the people in there are on upgrades. Domestic business/first is actually not a profitable cabin for the big three US carriers.
      With a convertible business class cabin, the airline can sell as many or as few business class seats as it likes, within reason. This helps the aircraft be profitable across varying markets - I don’t know LOT that well but with British Airways, a flight to Frankfurt may have demand for 10 rows of Business, but the same day the same aircraft may fly to Bologna and only require three rows.
      If this flight took place within the US, I would have had a bigger seat, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t get lounge access, and on a flight of 900 miles I might not be getting anything to eat.
      Anyway, I do love travelling inside the US a lot and don’t get me wrong, I love a big armchair in the sky - keep an eye out for me this summer when I’ll be travelling on each of United, AA, Delta, SunCountry, Alaska, Frontier, Spirit and JetBlue - travelling first class, or for the last three, in their front economy cabin trying out their “premium” experience. Also going to throw in a trip on the Acela Express for good measure!

      @that_llama_in_a_tuxedo4584 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s also down to stage length. Most European routes can be sub an hour to up to two to maybe 3 hours if you’re pushing it. US 737’s can be rotating all across the network from hour hops to 4-5 hour transcons. Not to mention simple culture. US culture wants their to be a distinct business class even on regional carriers because of just this belief of business travellers to be distinctly more comfortable than economy class. Airlines have tried Euro style business class and marketed as such and failed

      @@jisagay3872 I'm sure it will. But I won't fly it just out of principle. Boeing deserves more than slap on a wrist for how they've handled the launch of this aircraft. How corporate greed led to hundreds of people being dead. There were very specific people who were at fault, making those decisions knowingly, and company knows exactly who they are. All the company got was some lukewarm lawsuit they've managed to wiggle their way out of. This plane deserves all the stigma it gets.

    • @gregskuza7166
      @gregskuza7166 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jackson Smith there is a different location of the heavier move efficient and bigger engine, it’s more forward comparing to older 737. That change causes plane to behave in a way to pitch nose down and additional system to stabilize the flight was added quietly by Boeing and no actual training was provided to pilots to save money plus the plane was rushed to production and certification was rushed and incomplete. That was the reason of the 2 crashes that had almost identical control adjustment at the moment of crash.

Great to see the individual multi-charging sockets in the seat back too, rather than just USB points that is often the norm these days.

    The view of Windsor from the air was spectacular!! Every time you show old WW 2 airfields I wonder if my father-in-law flew out of them on his way to bomb Germany. How he survived over 26 missions is a miracle. Thanks for another wonderful report.

    Great video Paul! Enlightened my usual, boring sunday filled with studies... I love how you edit ur videos, theres never ONE boring shot! Music is also lovely, and I really like what you point out special places you zoom in on! The MAX is also great, Norwegian got some now, using from Bergen and Oslo eg. :)

    I had forgotten that in the EU business-class seats are no different from economy, except that no one is booked in the middle seat.

    Great video. The Singapore A380 at the beginning looked fine. Woodbridge/Bentwaters, that is near where the 1980 alleged ufo incident occurred at Rendlesham Forrest. New LOT 737 looked very nice.

    Excellent as always Paul - I know you're getting to grips with the new camera - for the close ups to camera you can always just establish your focus and then switch to manual - that way it won't go hunting around when people/objects are moving behind you. But that's a minor thing I'm sure you'll work out.

    Liked the video :) I just find it kinda funny how in Europe there are no IFEs on the back of the seats of mainline airlines like that, I took an AC Express CRJ-705/900 and a AC Express Embraer 175 and they both had IFEs and wifi on them!
