I owned my 2002 C5 for 21 yrs & 1 month & felt like doing what you did after dealing with typical C5 DIC’s, part replacements, just aggravating chasing down normal everyday problems. Said enough was enough & got tired of not trusting it after throwing $$$ at it. Walked into my local used car dealer & they bought it. I was sad but also relieved that I’d cut my losses. And thx for making me lol as you usually do. It makes all of my bad days better.

Man you've been pumping out the content lately...I was worried when I saw you sign up with Motortrend, since theyre owned by discovery and tend to ruin everything. Glad to see thats not the case here, keep up the great work!
I was thinking that since you did sign on with Motortrend that a 20 minute phone call with Lucky Costa would have given Derek valuable advice on separating the body and frame since Lucky did just that last year.
Shaun, back in the late 70’s I drove a 66 or 67 T-bird with the suicide doors. My dad bought and sold a lot of cars and I ended up driving it for a year of so. The car would not move forward or reverse until it ran and warmed up for several minutes. We never did figure out what the problem was and we eventually sold it. You guys Rock!!
I know you probably won't see this, but you are the reason I got my C10 back. I got a 6.0L LQ9 to swap in it from a junkyard because of inspiration from you. Thank you, Derek. If you do by some miracle see this, I just started that 6.0L and posted a video on my channel. Not necessary but my whole point is if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have re-sparked my passion. You're the man!
You always see Derek be more delicate with the older machines. But when it comes to a more modern Corvette, first thing he says is "wonder if we should disconnect the battery" then proceeds to rip the entire front fender off in one go. Love it.
He's usually trying to save the whole car, not just the engine. That hood and fender bit had me in tears, and now I think I want to see a Whistlin Diesel collab 🤣
When you tore the fender off with your bare hands, my blood pressure went down to normal. Such a relaxing sound, music to my ears, such passive aggressive release of adrenaline. Good job, keep up the great videos!
I own 2 corvette’s and seeing you rip that car apart has made me so happy! It absolutely made my day! I am not a fan of having to work on corvettes anymore! Great episode.
I have owned 21 corvettes over the past 47 years. I have actually left them alone mechanically primarily because of their complexity. I generally buy a new one every 2-3 years. I can't remember if I have kept one long enough to go out of warranty. The cars I do play auto mechanic on are my five classic cars. Way easier to work on. Regarding pulling an engine out from the bottom, that is the reverse of how they are assembled at the factory in Kentucky.
I got to pull a 88 Corvette a part with a Fork Lift and a Sawsall a few years ago.. Buddy of mine bought it from an auction house, same deal as Derek, it had been in a crash.
Was gonna say. About the same. Made me laugh so hard. And then remembered a lot of future old car wont really exist. Because of plastic parts and general designed obsolescence.
I don't usually comment and I never turn on my notification bell on TH-cam, until now. This is the only channel I do that for. I just recently discovered this channel about a month ago and I have been burning the videos up. Beyond Awesome content and entertainment, thank you so much.

Love your videos.

As a long time C5 owner, that was.. well.. both satisfying and nauseating. But I know for a fact that the Monte is going to be THE goin' ta town rig with the LS1 in it. Great choice. It's really comforting to know that the ol' red, white, and blue tribute will be cruising steadily for a long time to come. 👍
You probably put a big smile on a number of Corvette technicians faces with with this one! Hey, you did yourself and the Monte a big favor! Can’t wait to see that swap! Thanks for the video 👍!

you can! but it's costs painfully large amounts of money (trust me trust me), fortunately, I have only went berserk on my own trash over the years, which has also taught me to not do that, becauseit still "costs a pile". 🙄
@@throttlebottle5906 I was thinking the same while I listened to him encourage folks to just do it. I could see me starting into some big project that I didn't know how it would turn out and spending a STUPID amount of money before it was over and even then end up with pretty much junk. ha.

Brilliant. Derek, I think you missed your vocation, you should have been a rock star with them there vocals. This is high octane entertainment of the highest calibre! Using a 4 post lift as a hoist to suspend the body was inspired. Derek, the King of ingenuity!
Ehh, not really, a Corvette is a bad example because they are fiberglass and most parts are glued together and that's the first thing that gives after a crash.
How many of a guy are there? Is it really possible for you to be on VGG and everyone elses content and still be the same person? I had a pewter 2000 C5 convertible. Actually, you'd be surprised on how many parts are worth quite a bit of money. That transverse spring in the front is worth a pretty penny. Parting that puppy out will get you your money for sure. There's lots of bolts underneath the fiberglass. Well, I guess you know that by now :-) May the Lord richly bless you and your family:-) Peter, the pilgrim

A new Vice Grip mid-day and mid week?? I just can't believe it, but I guess I got to cause I'm watching it right now.
I read and like many of the comments and end up laughing again when they point at something from the video that made them laugh also. I WAS AMAZED AT BACKING IN WITH NO HELP AND NO HELP FROM THE MIRRORS-YOUR INSPIRING !!! Hat’s off to you and yours for great entertainment and content.
Being a fellerette I find always your easy to listen to. And you always get the job done. Great work!!
Getting the job done... No excuses, finds away to finish. To bad America's women can't figure that out either.
@@Glen_Mark can't figure out what your point is here. Hmmmm. Guess I can't figure out your way.
You, sir, in addition to your many mechanical talents, are a splendid narrator.
Revivals, racing, fixing stuff, breaking stuff. Doesn’t matter not one bit, great channel as always 😎🤘
+ 1 As a former C5 Corvette owner I thouroghly enjoyed the subtle, yet effective techniques employed while removing the engine.
You just did what most of us gear heads want to do from time to time! Just go nuts on a job but can't. That was awesome.
It's rare, but it sure is fun!
you can! but it's costs painfully large amounts of money (trust me trust me), fortunately, I have only went berserk on my own trash over the years, which has also taught me to not do that, becauseit still "costs a pile". 🙄
@@throttlebottle5906 I was thinking the same while I listened to him encourage folks to just do it. I could see me starting into some big project that I didn't know how it would turn out and spending a STUPID amount of money before it was over and even then end up with pretty much junk. ha.
@@ChristopherBix sounds like life! it's a big project that you cannot understand fully.
some of us have no qualms doing huge projects, BUT, have no laborers worth a hill of beans. so avoid big projects 101, solo is how it is with tremendous weight on shoulders...
Hey Derek, thanks for the midweek video. Hope y'all are doing well
I know it felt good to have a job go smoothly. And that's the perfect engine for that Monte. Can't wait to see it.
I've made the mistake of watching your show post 8 pm far too many nights. Your background music on them long drives home just lull me 😴 💤. Great content man. Keep up the awesome work
Had a pretty rough day, saw this pop up and it already made my day 200% better.
You mean 200.3576% better 🤣🤣🤣
Loved watching this Derek, this fellete from the UK and a petrolhead just loves the content and the old school attitudes. Keep it coming!
Dude, I haven't laughed so hard in quite a while when you started tearing the fender off by hand, I was rolling on the floor!!! I am a subscriber for life!!!
The guy is a professional when it comes to deorganizing a Corvette alright. I LOL'd throughout the whole thing. Thanks from Hudson, Wi. Miss ya around here...-6 degrees, 12 to 63.5 inches of solid, white rain....Yup, just GREAT!!
There is nothing better then coming home to a VGG vida after plowing for 23 hours… 👍
Nice little surprise getting some VGG content on a Tuesday!
It is so much fun to watch what you do, and I love the way you go at it.
Over the years I have always just jumped in to things and did not worry about how it was going to turn out.
I kinda believe that was part of the fun and you make it look so cool and fun thanks
Brilliant.
Derek, I think you missed your vocation, you should have been a rock star with them there vocals. This is high octane entertainment of the highest calibre! Using a 4 post lift as a hoist to suspend the body was inspired. Derek, the King of ingenuity!
The way you removed that fender really shows the quality of newer vehicles!
that 'newer' corvette is 25 years old.
@@howie2092 yeah I know lol
@@howie2092 “newer” compared to lots on this channel that is.
Ehh, not really, a Corvette is a bad example because they are fiberglass and most parts are glued together and that's the first thing that gives after a crash.
fiberglass vehicles like vettes are way different than 99% of cars. I thought everyone knew by now, but sure.
Well well well, if it isn't the most pleasant surprise of my day. Thank you, sir. 🙏
Yes! The Corvette is back! We love your videos Derek!
thank you
@@ViceGripGarageGreetings from Wishek, ND!
WOW ....I own three Vette's 92,96 and a 77. Sometimes I would love to do this to my C4s for sure. GOOD JOB.
How many of a guy are there? Is it really possible for you to be on VGG and everyone elses content and still be the same person? Derek, I love all your content, be it here on VGG, Motor Trend, and other channels. Your scheule must be insane. Take time for yourself. I am sure that 98.7536 (repeating)% of viewers will still be here when you need a rest.
This channel quickly became my absolute favorite automotive channel. Red Green Show of the automotive entertainment world! Brilliant platform and very enjoyable content! Keep it coming! Cheers!!!!
100% 👍
Thanks Derek for takin us through another adventure in….. disassembly? Always entertaining and maybe by accident educational! Love the content. Keep making videos, we’ll keep watching 😊
54:03 funniest 10 second statement you have ever made! I watched it back 3 or 4 times still laughing!!! Makes my day when I see a new video pop up! Another great one and I will definitely rewatch again
I love me some mid week VGG . Especially in a snow storm!!!
Some of your best work yet! Who here wouldn't want to take a Corvette apart with a sawzall!. The soothing sound of fiberglass and plastic breaking was priceless! Automotive/comedic Genius! I have a hard time watching other TH-cam mechanics because they just aren't as entertaining as you!👍
Yep...Derek is Bob Ross meets Bob Hope meets American classic, unique or survivor iron revival. Love it.
Always look forward to these, didn't have to wait 'til Friday. Appreciate the mid-week drop!
Really digging on these longer episodes brother. Thanks for all the great vidjas. Just what a feller needs.
Yes, myself and everyone else love Derek's longer find 'em, get 'em running and drive them home videos, his big project fix 'em all up videos and his unique swap and go Holley fuel/induction with a different trans and rearend videos. He definitely does them like no one else and he does them WELL.
Nice to see a very successful Utuber still getting in there and wrenching. Learned so much on your your channel keep on keeping on !!
Entertaining & educational all for the price of a few ad's.
Always a pleasure to watch VGG !
You can really tell when Derek's dialed in on the filming!! You know he's been working for hours!
Love the episode!
I can't believe you got all that done in 58 minutes & 49 seconds! You really make the magic happen!! Thanks for having us over Derek.
It's called video editing!
@David Bevins Thanks Mr. Bevins.
This seems therapeutic. Derek's earned this 10x over for all the rusty rigs he's put up with over the year.
Kind of reminded me of an old home-improvement episode the therapy is the first part! Derek and the boys even got a fiberglass sled out of the deal BONUS👍🏻
Needed this today. Thanks for the entertainment, sir.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for your time and knowledge, I used to watch a dozen shows on Motortrend but I've switched to just VGG ever since I found it. 1hr shows that I actually wish were longer! God bless and take care
Cooking with a tire pile... Priceless! Derek you come up with some totally funny names and sayings. Endless entertainment.
Was waiting to see what happens with this unit... VGG never disappoints
Hey NLFDHayden, can I assume you’re from Newfoundland ?
@Stephen born and raised! Ended up moving out west like everyone else though lol
I was wondering what was gonna happen with this rig too
That engine would just love a new home in a Fiero
Yeah. Keeps you waiting for a new video all the time. You fellers ought to also check out sleeperdude on TH-cam here. If you like VGG you won’t be disappointed.
You inspire me to do more , right now there is to much snow on the ground though. Really enjoy your vids keep up the great work.
Well, I guess you know that by now :-)
May the Lord richly bless you and your family:-) Peter, the pilgrim
You put Corvette maintnance into a whole new level...Great job... 🙂
I have a feeling this whole series is about to be a tutorial for when Taylor Ray does the exact same thing to his G-Body Monte Carlo, and I'm looking forward to seeing the progress
I have two living friends who were Corvette owners late 60's. Turn them upside down to change plugs. Sent them this link and told them this could be you:)
Great boost to my day! VGG is the best.
I absolutely love your videos. Entertainment at it's best. I'm a senior now but 20 years ago I did 2 LS1 Corvette transplants. One into a 77 GMC 4x4 and the other in a 1993 GMC dually that I also supercharged. You bring back memories.
As a Canadian, mad respect for your use of the sawzall 👍🤦♂️
Best power tool ever invented!!
Derek's an ANIMAL.!
The way he started ripping it apart with his bare hands.! 😂 😂 😂 😂
Looking forward to watching this once I get off work!
